Sunday Sweets: Dragon Con Treats

Next weekend John and I will be among Our People at the annual nerd mecca: Dragon Con in Atlanta. That's right, geeks, WE'RE COMIN' HOME!
Naturally, I feel we should celebrate the best way I know how: with amazing cakes themed to some of the various tracks at Dragon Con. (If you've never been, DC separates its panels into 37 different "fan tracks." It's like a geeky buffet of all-you-can-attend goodness.)
You might even be surprised by the variety. For example, there's a Young Adult Literature track:
(By Sweet Blossom Cakes)
... along with a Writer's track, Fantasy Literature, & Tolkien's Middle Earth.
Alt History is where my fellow steampunks hang out:
(By Swank Cake Design)
And if you keep your eyes peeled on Saturday night, you MIGHT even see Lady Vadore stalking the halls. ;)
My friend Stephen is heading up the Science track this year, so trust me, you're gonna love it.
(By Gimme Some Sugar)
Er, but it's not THAT kind of science, kids.
(Best use of rock candy ever, or what?)
There are also tracks on Podcasting:
(By That Cake Girl)
Any Welcome To The Night Vale listeners out there?
And Puppetry:
(By Peace of Cake)
Swedish Chef will always be my flurby durby caken-schmöösher favorite. ALWAYS.
(Love how the base looks like an upside-down stew pot. So clever!)
Last year at DC some of the real, honest-to-goodness Fraggles came to visit, along with their original performers. For reals, you guys. NOSTALGIA HIGH-FIVE.
Of course there are always the big sci-fi classics, too, like Trek Track:
Resistance to this stellar cake is futile.
And everything Star Wars:
"Judge me by my flavor, do you?
Because delicious, I am."
There are even tracks for Paranormal interests, Zombies, and Horror:
(By Gayle's Bakery)
Admit it: best. horror cake. EVER.
For those of you who like to tinker, there's a Robotics and Makers' track:
And for those who love cartoons (GUILTY!), another for Animation:
Adventure Time!
And finally, if you're wondering where all the Whovians go, that's over on Brit Track - but careful!
(By Katawampous)
Blink and you'll miss it.
Sorry I couldn't cover all 37 tracks here, but I think you guys get the idea. If you'll be at Dragon Con next weekend, too, keep an eye out for me and John - I'll have pins! - and feel free to tweet at me to arrange a meetup, since we don't tend to stay in one place for very long. You can also watch my other blog, Epbot, for more DC details and tons of coverage after the fact.
Happy Sunday, everyone!

Going to DragonCon? Jealous! I saw on the DragonCon website that Colin Baker, the Sixth Doctor, will be there. John must be so excited!
OMG those are all so awesome :D love the octopus cake XD
That one cake with the Octopus tecnacles popping out would be perfect for Halloween ((eeeeek!!!)) and The Swedish Chef cake.....Sqeeeeeeeee!!!!! I love it!!!
Yesterday, I found out Alton Brown is a HUGE Doctor Who fan.
Today, these cakes.
It's been a really good weekend for geeks.
LOVE the Sunday Sweets, as usual. But....I have to ask....WHAT is that THING hanging down from Yoda??? That brown.....thing....gahhhhh! I must be a bad person because that's the first thing I saw on Yoda...and now it can't be UNSEEN!!!! But beautiful cakes!
Anon, that's his cane.
Love Welcome to Night Vale- All hail the Glow Cloud!
@Anon -- *snerk* It's his walking stick (and you're not a bad person...)
I didn't know I was a geek until just now because I LOVE every one of these cakes!
Looked through all the events, regardless of track, and this D*C, most of my time is split between the Science and Skeptics tracks. Conveniently, in the same building.
Mostly void; partly stars.
That is a beautiful use of fondant minimalism on the WTNV cake.
All of the beautiful Nightvalian purple!
I mean, i loved a bunch of the others as well, but NightVale is the first love! also BMO!!!!!
I'd also like to invite you (and anyone else at Dragoncon) to hop on MARTA just a few stops to hang out at the Decatur Book Festival too. It has, I promise, also much geekery and nerding to offer because books!
I love Night Vale! Nice to see it here.
A post about Dragon Con but there's no DRAGON CAKE ?? I'm so disappointed!
I just realized the 21science cake is in reference to Breaking Bad.
My daughter and I *love* Night Vale! Had a chance to see them when they came through Denver. It was like a mini-con festival. Have fun at Dragon Con!
All hail the glow cloud, indeed!
Any Welcome To The Night Vale listeners out there?
ALL HAIL THE GLOW CLOUD!
*fangirl squee* Not able to go to Dragon Con, but will be watching your posts! Love ya CW!
Hey, I'll be at DragonCon too! Lovely post!
My daughter and I saw NIghtvale live in Houston! She is a BIG Nightvale fan. Another podcast I would suggest is Thrilling Adventure Hour.
I kept thinking 'That's the coolest cake ev-' and then I'd scroll down and see an equally awesome cake. Too bad DC is so far away.
Night Vaaaaaaale.
Love it, love it so much. Got to see their most recent live show last month. So awesome.
Tamika Flynn is the role model I want for my daughter. Even if I am a librarian!
My husband will be there too! He has a couple of different costumes he'll be sporting at various times. I haven't been since 2008 because of the kids and no one to watch them for 6 days :( I have been twice though. Oh and my husband and I are also part of the 501st!
And WHERE is the Janitor cake huh? You think that mess just cleans itself??
Throw a grenade or two at Stephen while you're there. (*snerk*)
Wish I could make it. And you're even cooler than I thought. :)
I dang near squeed at the Night Vale cake. WANT.
I will be escorting Danaerys/Arwen to DC this weekend. If you bring cake I WILL find you.
Ahhh! Night Vale cakes?! YES!
How are we supposed to find you and assimilate you?
I love CW, but had no idea you were one of "my people"! I LOVE DragonCon, been going for the last 5-6 years, but have had to miss one due to breast feeding my twins four years ago and I'm missing this year because I lost my job so no $$. 😫 thanks for letting me share a bit of D*C this year!!
Oh. joy. Another Sunday sweet full of fondant. Seriously. It's sculpture more than cake.
