Sunday Sweets: Gettin' Geeky Wit It

Today is Embrace Your Geekness Day, my friends, and I intend to DO JUST THAT.
Because like cake, there are many flavors of geek fandom - and I love them all.
Granted, I love some more than others:
(By Chatter Cakes)
NO LIE.
I about fell over when I found not only a cake of my favorite video game character of all time - I found an AMAZING cake of him:
(By Oakleaf Cakes)
[Kermit flail] SONGBIRD!!
Songbird here is a whopping three feet tall, and was made for Irrational Games. And I love him. You can check out the amazing build photos here.
Who else loves Avatar? And I don't mean the blue guys:
(Submitted by Lisa K. and made by Sweet Pudgy Panda)
I let the anime style scare me off of The Last Airbender for far too long, but it only took a single episode last year to get me hooked. And the sequel series, Legend of Korra? AMAZEBALLS.
Shout out to all the real anime geeks out there:
(By rub-a-duckie)
I can spot Naruto, but the rest of your cosplay always keeps me guessing. :D
Here's a fun mash-up of two shows John and I love:
(By Nerdache Cakes)
Ponies and Supernatural!
Would you look at that "salt" circle? And a bucket of blood has never been cuter. Seriously.
It's not all shows and video games, though. Being a geek also makes me want to learn more about programming and electronics:
John and I have done some simple stuff, wiring up LEDs for various cosplays, but my dream is to build my own nixie tube clock from scratch.
Because I can never get too much steampunk. NEVAH!
(By Tasty Layers)
Here's one for the Brown Coats:
(Submitted by Chris R. and made by The Cake Creche)
Shiny.
And the Whovians:
(By Curiaussiety Cakes)
(And Minecrafters!)
And the... uh... Middle Earthers? Do Tolkien geeks have a nick name?
(Submitted by Emily H. and made by Cakerator)
Regardless, can you believe this Witch-king of Angmar is cake?!
And finally, can't forget superheroes and comic books - because what geek girl doesn't want to be Wonder Woman?
(By Cakes by Raewyn)
Though I might settle for this cake. So pretty.
Hope you're doing something geeky today, guys! And hey, if you found this post relevant to your interests, then you might like my other blog, Epbot, where I post everything from great convention pics to game reviews and DIY projects.

Aww so sweet-love the pony supernatural mashup XD
Sigh of geeky happiness...
All I've hears Tolkienites for the books, with Ringer for fans of the Lord of the Rings books in general. The latter is mostly co-opted for the move fans nowadays.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the geeky cakes. Love the TARDIS creeper! We need an amazing Star Trek cake though. Please tell me that exists.
P.S. Can you make Curly Ribbon Feather Shard Horror Hooves of Doom a real movie. I would totally see it.
Ringers.. Us Tolkien fans are sometimes called Ringers. Absolutely AMAZING cake display this morning!
Do Tolkien geeks have a nick name?
Tol-kieners, of course.
Be still my geeky heart!
And Tolkien geeks are called Ringers (well, the ones who love Lord of the Rings are, anyway.) I may or may not be a Ringer... :)
As a self-professed Tolkien freak, I've been known to refer to myself at times as a ringnerd. However, as far as I can tell the term hasn't caught on with anyone but me. Tolkienite, maybe?
Finally another soul who understands avatar doesn't mean the blue guys alone... are there any katara cakes it there too??? #just Wondering
Love them! I was glad to see the Aang cake - and it'd be great to see more Last Airbender-themed cakes. Appa? Zuko (in Blue Spirit mode perhaps? How about the Western Air Temple? [That's the upside-down one so it'd be a challenge...]
Oh, and in the "anime for people who don't think they'd like it" category, I recommend Summer Wars, which mixes virtual-reality, video games, and great family comedy/drama. It could inspire some killer cakes, too...
On the IMDB site, we referred to ourselves as Ringnuts.
Cakes after my geek heart <3 especially Doctor Who. Did I mention I have a Doctor Who tat? No? Well I do.
Tolkienites was the nickname back when I was into it.
Oh boy. Look out Doctor!
Never heard of Ringers, always used MorDorks.
Never heard of Ringers, always used MorDorks.
MorDorks. I think Ringers may have come about since the movies.
These.
Just.
Awesome.
MorDorks. I think Ringers may have come about since the movies.
@TheCreepyTribble
Just YES. That needs to be a movie.
Brown Coats unite! Or just eat cake, I'm good with that.
Love the cakes! The Songbird creation is a marvel in sugar. And Ringers used to be Hobbitomanes (way, WAY back, before the fall of Numenor) but Ringers has more snap. Quicker to write, too.
this - > Curly Ribbon Feather Shard Horror Hooves of Doom someone make this happen, please!
Where's the love for us Persons of Trek? :(
This is my favorite post ever! Thanks :)
On the My Little Supernatural cake - which is Dean and which is Sam? What are those Cutie Marks? One looks like a knife but I can't get the other.
You should have posted some marvel, pokemon, and maybe 80's game cakes.
I'm just going to put this out there for the 'verse to see... I am turning 50 in January 2016 and I Want.That.Firefly.Cake! :)
These cakes are all kinds of awesome. While I especially like the Witch King and Firefly cakes, I really have to hand it to the artist behind that Wonder Woman cake. I now want someone to make a stop-motion Wonder Woman film so bad. Or even a web mini-series.
I've heard The Lord of the Ring fans being called Ringers (there's even a DVD documentary by the same title) but not a name for all around Tolkien afictionados. I've heard Ringers being made fun of by use of the nickname MorDorks, but I've never heard it used fondly.
I think that's supposed to be a bucket of paint, not blood on the Supernatural cake (they tend to paint their Devil's Traps as they're too big to use blood... You'd bleed out!)
And the pony on the left looks like Sam I think.
Thank you for featuring my Avatar cake, it was a pleasant surprise! Go geeks!
I'm with TheCreepyTribble. CRFSHHOD needs to be a movie!
On the supernatural cake, Sam's on the right and he has a knife cutie mark. Dean' on the left and I can't tell what his mark is, although if it isn't pie someone doesn't watch the show. Can't see what mark Cas has. I have a powerful need for that cake now, though.
Somehow I missed that the Little Pony cake as Supernatural! I still think the Witch King is the most BA of the cakes, although my son and I love the Tardis/Creeper cake too :)
Oh, I love 'em all! I'm starting to feel a powerful need to rewatch Firefly after seeing that Serenity cake though.
As for doing something geeky today, I suppose doing research for a sci-fi novel and working on an Angry Birds blanket counts, right?
I'm going to counter Knightmare. (Sorry!) That soooo looks like Sam on the left and Dean on the right. Sam has the darker colored hair, so I would figure the one on the left is him.
I believe Sam's "cutie" mark is a book with an attached red ribbon bookmark.
Is Cas's cutie a black angel wing?
Could the mark on "Dean" be John Winchester's book? I'm sadly out of date on the show; it could be something from a later season. But the book was so very important for the first few seasons...
LOVE the portal cake. I've been known to say "the cake is a lie" under my breath while baking....
I want the Wonder Woman cake for my upcoming anniversary of my 21st birthday, please.
They're the Tolkien Minority
While they're all pretty awesome, Companion Cake is just the best.
TARDIS is also quality, but I'm just not into Minecraft, so that part doesn't grab me as well as some.
+
Who in their right mind would have a cake in the shape of the ship from Firefly/Seremity?? SERIOUSLY??? Sorry, but that show annoyed the hell out of me. The cakes were pretty awesome, though.
Um, I have a major issue with this post.
How, how, HOW do you make a fandom Sunday Sweets without one single Harry Potter cake?!? :(
BTW, Jenn & John, LeakyCon starts 7/30, so I make a strong suggestion that Sunday 8/3 be dedicated to Harry Potter Sunday sweets. *doe eyes*
I know I'm a little late to the party, but there are actually TWO nicknames for Tolkien geeks, and the reason is to denote what got them into Tolkien in the first place.
Ringers is the term most often used to refer to Tolkien geeks who got into it because of the movies.
Tolkien Fanatics is the term for those of us who got into it because of the books. In my case, I've worn out four softcover copies of all the books and a hardback one, merely through reading alone. Ask my anything, and I can tell you exactly what the movies got wrong, including a certain elf hunk's hair colour. :)
