What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: Studio Ghibli

John and I watched My Neighbor Totoro for the first time last week, and now I'd like to know where this movie has been all our lives. SO GOOD.

So now that I'm newly inspired by all things Miyazaki, I thought I'd round up the best Studio Ghibli cakes I could find. Even if you're like me and haven't seen all of them yet, these gorgeous cakes are still a treat on their own!

I didn't realize there was more than one version of the Romanized alphabet. Because Hiragana, Katakana, and tens of thousands of Kanji isn't enough we need variations to further confuse the rest of the world. Looks like I learned the Hepburn version 15 years ago and might have forgotten how to spell happy birthday in the meantime. The "u" would indeed be correct. Apologies. I'll stick to speaking it from now on.

These certainly put to shame my amateur, non-fondant Totoro cake that I diid for my nephew two years ago!
