What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

May the Fourth Be With These Sweets

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

LOOK, CAKES!

(By Cake Power)

Yessir, it's May the Fourth, my friends, and we are gonna party like the Ewoks with a fresh batch of Storm Troopers.

(Submitted by Steve B. and made by For Goodness Cakes)

Mmmm.

(Yeah, I went there.)

But wait, what's this?

OH HOW THE TABLES HAVE TURNED!

If you have any qualms about slicing into a cute lil Ewok, though, then I have just the cake for you:

(By Blue Note Bakery)

Yo, Jabba Jabba.

This Yoda cake is entirely fondant-free, and I love it:

(Submitted by Christy L. and made by Sugar Love)

"Delicious I am. Use the forks, you must."

Are you ready for the cutest Star Wars baby cake ever?

Then behold, Baby Star Wars, The Playground Menace!

(By I've Been Cupcaked)

In case there's ever a future revision of this cake, I'd like to point out that Han shot bubbles first. (With his bubble gun, I mean - unless you'd rather think that Darth's nickname as a baby was Bubbles, in which case... I'm actually Ok with that.)

And if that's not the most adorable baby Chewie ever, then this one has to be:

(By Tuff Cookie Cakes)

Oh. My. Cute. That belly!! Squee!

Ok, enough adorableness. Now witness the fire power of this fully armed and operational battle station!

(Submitted by Elizabeth A. and made by justkist)

Er... you want ice cream with that?

Here's one for you Clone Wars fans:

(By Cake Central Member virago)

The helmet pops are awesome, sure, but I can't take my eyes off that amazing handpainted Yoda. It's hard to tell where the painting ends and the actual 3D elements begin!

[Insert obligatory "this IS the droid you're looking for" quip here]

(By Sugarland)

R2 cakes may seem simple, but check out how the body is completely supported by the three legs. That's some impressive edible engineering!

Now, this Millennium Falcon may not look like much, but... wait a sec, YES IT DOES:

(Submitted by Deena S. and made by Charm City Cakes)

It's hard to tell in this photo, but the Falcon is even suspended over the cake board by a central post. WOWZA.

Of course it's only fitting that everyone's favorite bounty hunter is close behind:

(Made by Bonnie O.)

Chipped up metal never looked so tasty.

Look out, brides and grooms, 'cuz it's gettin' Hoth in here!

(Submitted by Karin D. and made by Coast Cakes)

Check out the tiny snow speeders! And the Wampa cave mouth!

And finally, because the couple that quotes Star Wars together, STAYS together:

(Submitted by Fiona H. and found here; baker unknown)

Awww. If only everyone could get encased in carbonite for that special someone.

Or... not. ;)

Happy May the Fourth, everyone! And be sure to check out our Sunday Sweets Directory if you want to see which bakers in your area have been featured here on Sweets!

Your puns are PRICELESS!!!

The last cake has got to be a groom's cake! I'm sure it sparked some humor. It also represents the most awkward moment in all of Star Wars short of at the end of Jedi when Anakin's helmet is removed and Luke sees that the face does not match the voice. "You mean my dad doesn't look like James Earl Jones? Excuse me. I have some college admissions officers I need to call. I checked the wrong box on some forms."

On the most recent Big Bang Theory *SPOILER ALERT*: weren't you super impressed when Bernadette and Amy made a second Death Star cake? I was! The discussion went something like this:

"I wonder why people don't make spherical cakes more often."

[rolls off table]

"Oh."

"Use the forks"? Love it! Hahaha....

I love the baby one by "I've Been Cupcaked", especially the little Yoda doll. Very creative.

Awesomeness! I can't choose a favorite!

May the Fourth be with you, Jen and John!
@Sharyn - I love it!!

Wowza! Best Post Evah!

These cakes are all AMAZE, but that 3D Yoda cake? BLOWN MIND say I must! WOWZA!

May 4, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLAfoodie72

That first cake is definitely for people who know where it's AT.

Eat too much Boba cake, and you'll be the one finding a new definition of pain and suffering. Thankfully, it doesn't need a thousand years to digest.

"Do or do not. There is no wreck."

May 4, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

YES! Before two days ago, I'd never actually seen Star Wars, so my friends decided to educate me, and we watched the first three movies... all in one day. I may be slightly obsessed with it now. And I must make an R2D2 cake. I must! Such perfect timing for this post!

May 4, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMaika Du Pont

My son looked at the Star Wars Baby Cake and said, of C3PO, "Squidward!!" ... I think we need to have a Star Wars Marathon today.

May 4, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

AT-AT in a party hat.
What could possibly be cuter than that?

Then Jen shows us!

May 4, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAngela

The baby Star Wars definitely elicited a squee from me! A bubble gun?! I love unexpected details like that!

Btw, the comment section for the Hans Solo carbonate cake says it's from here: http://cutthecakeinc.com.

OMG. I can't even...

What an amazing collection! Thank you! After watching the Big Bang Theory nod to May the fourth, this is perfect. Who knew? I just love your site. You bring smiles on rainy days (and remind us that there are a LOT of wrecky things out there that make our lives look just a tad better... <grin>)

Oh, and um, I think that wedding cake is a groom and a groom.

Thanks for the smiles and May the Fourth be with you!

I don't know whether to groan or laugh at your puns! Baby Star Wars is so cute, although I have a soft fondant-free spot for Yoda too.

May 4, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRachel CrazyMum

Sharyn, I'd give anything for a "like" button sometimes.

May 4, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterlynn

I'm completely tickled, excited, and honored to be included with these awesome cakes! Thanks so much for the recognition and kind words on my Clone Wars Yoda cake and pops. Love your site(s) and sense of humor!!!

May 4, 2014 | Unregistered Commentervirago

I cannot believe how amazing these cakes are!! Holy crap. I think the bakers harnessed the power of the force for these ...

May 4, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMiki

Was the Han Solo in carbonite cake fondant free? Could it be? I see frosting marks and actual piping, I think. WOW. Just wow.

May 4, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJessica H

The R2D2 cake appears to have a well-hidden black centre/back support underneath the body. Given the position of the legs, even if there was an internal support connecting the body to the legs, the cake would tip backward. The hidden support is quite impressively done.

That sculpted buttercream Yoda is phenomenal!

May 4, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjudy

Vader and C3PO have pacifiers!!! :D

May 4, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterThe Former CB

I had a cake when I was little that was all frosting and looked like the planet of Mustafar. It even had action figures on top of it of Obi Wan and Anakin. Best birthday EVER!!!! :D

May 4, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSarah P.

Okay, never been a Star Wars Fan, but crying baby Chewie holding a Yoda doll is one of the most heartbreakingly adorable things I've ever seen.

May 4, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSteph

I want to adopt both adorable, teeny, tiny Chewies.

The geek in me wants to believe that all the cakes (or at the very least the 10th one) were made using this measuring cup set:

Love the baby Chewies!

The "Baby Star Wars" cake made me squeal with delight!! I totally want that cake!! My fondant sculpting skills aren't that advanced yet, but you can bet I'll be working on them diligently so one day I can make that cake!!

May 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKeri

"Cake. Or cake not. There is no wreck. -- Have all of these cakes, I must, hmm??"

May 5, 2014 | Unregistered Commenteremmay
