What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Beauty Is Only Skin Deep

If you think animated characters today set an unrealistic standard of beauty for your kids, then you're in luck! Today's cakes will show you some great ways to lower that standard, all while teaching important life-lessons!

First, remember, girls: strong jawlines = strong women.

Also, some things are better gotten off your chest.

While others - such as missing limbs, sagging chests, and worryingly large necks - are best left unmentioned:

On the plus side, questions like "Where's the rest of her choker? Or her arm? Or her ear?" can help distract viewers from misspellings. Case in point: did you notice "bithday"?

Brenda S., Aaryn C., & Beth, these cakes are beautiful, no matter what they say.

Sung to "Someday My Prince Will Come"

Some say my chin is dumb
That's 'til they see my chest
Frosting all me's a hassle, I know
It might take 10 more minutes or so...

Maybe the Cinderella cake was priced on a by-body part basis. Ears - $1.00; arms - $4.50.

My childhood is ruined.

That last one is actually a game, like you get in Highlights Magazine (for children): "Can you spot the mistakes in this picture?"

It's definitely educational!

Hasn't the Cinderella cake been posted before? Is this whole post a repost and I'm too dumb to notice?

[Editor's note- Hi, C. Can I call you C? You are not dumb in any way. In fact, your memory is glorious. This post is from 2009. Most of the time, I make Jen put up a really, really old rerun once a week. I do this for two reasons: 1- Jen was becoming troll-like and I needed to get her away from her computer and 2- Most of our readers are newish and have never seen some of the classics. (we have over 2,000 posts) So we put up the occasional repost. Anyway, tomorrow is a lovely new post so be sure to check back. -john (thoJ)]

April is Limb Loss Awareness Month (yes it is!) and Cinderella is this year's spokesprincess.

April 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

Hilarious!

April 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen

@C Warren Dale ~ It's tagged as a Wrecky Replay so yes, it's been posted before :-)

It's still funny in a terrifying "what the heck did they do with the missing body parts???" kinda way.

@SuBee ~ Snorting when you're head feels like it's going to explode because of stupid allergies is slightly painful. Thanks for that!

April 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

SuBee, that little nugget of information just made this post complete.

That second one reminds me of a greeting card I once received from a friend. Its message: " When life gives you lemons, [open card] Stick them in your bra!! Can't hurt, might help."

April 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCarol

@ SuBee, so does that mean the wreck is currently politically correct?

Tomorrow is "National Hairball Awareness Day"...okay Jen, how will YOU celebrate? <hurk>

Lol@sharyn :D. Those cakes were drawn by blind insane convicts O_o

Cake#1: Ariel looking wistful--"I Want To Be A Part Of Your World (Where They Have Plastic Surgeons)"

Cake#2: How DO you avoid camel toe in spandex suits?

Cake#3: Cindy has her eyes turned to the right and downward; curiously, that's also the side of the missing ear, arm, and "R". Perhaps she's given the mad dwarf down there (Rumpelstiltkin?) half her choker to avoid losing anything else. She does look nervous.

April 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

Maybe this was addressed back in 2009 (not going to look), but how do is the name on the first cake meant to be said? Koiyle ->. coyly?

April 24, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterbob

Photoshop fails represented in cake.

Tomorrow is apparently also East Meets West Day and World Penguin Day. Do as thou wilt.

As for the previous post, that is what throwing up 2, 3 times a day will get you. I HATE throwing up. I don't get how bulimics do it; I really don't.

April 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

The possibility of that chest right there? That's why I refused to make a Firestar cake for my daughter's 4th birthday last year.

April 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBridget

I'm happy to say I've been following CW long enough to remember this the first time it was posted and it is still just as funny the second time around! Glad Jen gets a break one in a while. :)

April 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSandy

@Carol, now that you mention that, that does resemble a lemon. I'm glad you didn't take the advice of your greeting card, because clearly it's not doing anyone any favors.

April 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHeather

@bob.... I think it's Haiyle or Kaiyle. Either way I hope it was a misspelling and not a parent giving their child a "unique" name.

April 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterErin

Nope, didn't notice the misspelling until you pointed it out.

April 24, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterdkzody

Poor Ariel and Cinderella look like someone implanted dreidels in their chins.

April 25, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

So glad I never had these kinds of cakes as a kid lol. Although looking back on it my Wonder Woman cake was pretty fantastic at least for a five year old lol. These would have made me cry.

April 25, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

Now, come on, people! We can't complain about the media portraying impossibly perfect celebrities AND complain about cake decorators portraying amputee princesses with goiters and badly botched breast reductions. Where's the inclusivity? I say, Well done! It's good to finally see some role models for the more asymmetrical segments of the population. It doesn't MATTER if your breasts are different sizes and point in different directions, you still have as much right as anyone* to wear lycra and be a superhero! Take your cues from Spiderman - face forwards, neutral expression, don't stare at her chest.
And Ariel-just-coming-out-of-the-dentist is nothing to sneer at. Everyone needs to take care of their teeth.
*(I don't think this is in any country's Bill of Rights, is it? Please say no!)

The mermaid princess looks like a relation of Quagmire (Giggity)

April 25, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPhineas J Whoopie

Not funny with the towers on Princess cake. Need to redo ASAP.

April 26, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterme

You win the internets! You made it to George Takei's page today.

April 26, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDonna

@Donna: Yes, in the "Should Somebody Tell Them?" category. But I'm pretty rock-steady sure they already know. You can't make something THAT shape and THAT color and not know what it resembles. Even if you're Patrick Star. I'm sorry. You just can't.

April 27, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

Ouch.

April 27, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterStoich91

No one should have to look at that on their 3rd Bithday!!
