What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Inside The Twisted Mind Of john

And so I says to her, I says, "Hey lady! Let me give you a HAND with that!"

AHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!

Thanks to Nancy L., Laura C., & Sahara H. for letting me get that out. I feel muuuuch better now.

Edit- Yes. The blue one is supposed to be Ponyo and no, it's not bad. I just liked her expression opposite the maniacal Valentine's day flying heart of doom. Have a nice day.

#1 I've really gotta hand it to the wreckerator: everyone else in the store is either out sick or on vacation, so s/he has to restock, get the carts, cover checkout, schlep stuff out to cars for people, do cleanup on aisle 12 AND make 112 cakes by 5:00. The mind boggles. S/he could probably use a hand.

#2 Ok, the 'sell by' date confirms Valentine's day, but I still see Gossamer's grandpa before some kind of evil heart.

#3 If someone is baking memories*, a drowning girl would be pretty hard to forget.

*Not trying to get anyone in trouble with the baker, unlike whoever ratted on the Oreo cakes from yesterday. Ahem.

Is the Nutri-Matic on the fritz again? Looks like I'll have to have another talk with Eddie 2.0...

Why send John to the original bunker, when he could be enjoying one of the "suites" upstairs? He probably needs to get away. We all need to get away from time to time. The Bunker is staffed by friendly people in white coats uniforms who enjoy friendly, non-threatening chats with anyone who just, you know, needs a break. Because we all need a break now and then, right?

"Dr. Smith" (who bears a striking resemblance to an orange tabby): "The cakes are talking, are they? And what do they say? Hmm, interesting...do go on. Mind if I put on some music?"

ROFLOL! The cakes were, strange, creepy, huh?, creeper, double huh? and WHOA - too creepy! I am glad a couple of people (and the edit) explained the girl in the "water". It makes sense, doesn't look too much like her, but anyway. Her expression is perfect for the heart demon!
I wondered if it wasn't a representation of what Stephen King's clown character from IT's heart might look like!
Thank you to everyone who commented, I was laughing, loudly, at some. Good thing I am home alone.

To TLC - you have my sympathies. Living in Minnesota, I understand your feelings. I am fortunate enough, right now, to live in a part of Minnesota that is NOT getting snow, right now, anyway... Had our share...

Keep up the good work, EVERYONE! John, Jen, everyone else. The comments are just as much fun as the cakes themselves.

This post reminded me of The Tick's Evil Bomber What Bombs at Midnight! http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vP9w4LRYnAs

Did anyone else think #3 was supposed to be Raggedy Ann? Not that that would explain why she was apparently drowning and terrified.

@Just Andrea ~ Want some help calming the fondant babies? I have experience with 11 minions (baby bunnies!) so I'm sure fondant babies can't be much different, right? Hey @Craig, could you be a dear and work on the capsule to ship them to Mama @Haiku Joy? Since it's Gossamer's grandpa that scared everybody you got elected.

Don't make the fondant babies cry, john! I'm trying to dry them out already!

LOL! Thanks for the laughs this evening. My students are probably wondering why I have this odd smirk on my face while they're taking a final exam, but the comments today are hilarious. :)

Omg... Thats a flying heart??? I thought it was a bald sunburnt creeper!

Hi Jen,

this comment has nothing to do with these photos, but I don't tweet or facebook. I was just watching the 2002 version of Doctor Zhivago (the one with Sam Neill and Keira Knightley). On disc one (DVD) 1:09:35-55 there is a wedding cake with what I think is supposed to be a cornucopia on top but it looks like a cross between a dead tree and a rotted colon. (For obvious reasons I can't send a photo.) Anyway it made me think of this site.

The second cake looks like the Joker gone wrong! Lmbo!!!!

I think that the "heart-shaped" cookie face looks like Sweet, the demon who made everyone sing and dance in Buffy's "Once more with feeling" episode.

That was a flying valentine heart? I thought that it was an insane devil clown or something. Have you seen the book "Twisted Cakes" (great book!) with the evil clown cake on the cover? It looks just like the Valentine whatever. But less red.

Well that tears it. My birthday is next week and no way am I even going to attempt to order a cake lol. I have been frightened off. Maybe I will find a nice cookie without frosting to munch on or something.

Swimming/ drowning lady is Ariel... Little mermaid. "Wondering free/Wish I could be/part if their world!"

May 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCathy

@Just Andrea: thanks! (where else can we have all this fun...!)
@Jodee: awww...shucks....and thanks....

May 2, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermel

@Cathy: Judging by her expression, after see the winged heart demon of doom, I don't think Ariel wants to be part of this world, afterall.

@Jodee: Yes, I'd love some help with the babies. They've gone and gotten themselves all soggy. I've been passing the blow dryer over them, on the cool setting. On the plus side, if @Haiku Joy injects a drop of caramel in 'em, they'ed taste like salted caramel babies.

I "heart" everyone here. (Just to be clear, not the "maniacal Valentine's day flying heart of doom". Just a good, old-fashioned heart. And nothing Hannibal Lecter would be interested in, either.)

I would buy the Ricardo from Adventure Time cookie.

May 2, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersarah

Number two is the Joker from Batman.

May 3, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBea

That heart cake is totally Ricardio from Adventure Time.

John, I love your mind. And after this post I love that it lives at a safe distance from me. ;)
