What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Hoppy EDSTER!

Whether you're on Spring Break this weekend, or getting together with family, or working (boo!), or just sitting around the house playing BioShock:Infinite (HOLLA!), allow me to wish you a VERY:

 Wait, no. I mean a:

No ...

Somehow that illustration really isn't helping.

Gah. If only we could use spell check on cakes, am I right? Then we'd NEVER have these ... uh ...

Never mind.

Sure, that's a store display, but at least it didn't get printed in the store flier, right?

*headdesk*

I also want to give an extra special shout-out to the men and women in the armed forces away from home right now, and possibly celebrating with cakes like this:

Apparently the baker thought the Playboy Bunny wasn't working, so s/he added a Splicer from BioShock. I LIKE THIS BAKER.

Ooh, and this one comes from a boat captain, who tells me the boat's catering staff made it for the crew. And get this: his first name is Brody. CAPTAIN BRODY. I'm SURE he NEVER gets people making Jaws jokes, either, so ...

DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN: We're gonna need a bigger yolk.

(How badly do you wish that said, "Happy Yester Day?")

And finally, since we're veering off the "professionally made" path anyway, and because my entire family decided to go on the Paleo diet this month, here's a "bunny cake" for all you low-carb folks:

That rabbit is such a ham.

Thanks to Cheri F., Kelley N., Malisa I., Amanda S., Francesca A., Chloe H., Capt. Brody H., & Lisa and John K., who should feel free to leave all those terrible, carb-riddled cakes with me. Because I care.

Can't sleep, hambunny will eat me, can't sleep ham bunny will eat me... D:

The rest of them makes me doubt our superiority as a species :((

Also agree with a shoutout to our troops :D

Yo Edster! It's The Edster! Happy Birthday, Edster!
You know, The Edster really wanted to see some crucified Jesuseses cakes for his special day.
You don't want to make The Edster angry on his birthday.

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

E is for Eternal springtime birthdays
D Delights us with its cakey fruit
S Shows us Something not found in nature (Albino Coyote Rabbit?)
T's because we're Truly Eappy, Too!
E means Every flyer is Egregious
R is -- REALLY? That THING'S for our troops?!!!?
Put them all together, they spell "Yester". (Is that right?)
Now slice up Paleo Bunny.

Jodee -- the alarm cat's back on schedule...

Eappy Paleo Lagomorph Day, All!

YES! Golden eggs for sale in Ghana!
Eggcellent post.

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterFluffy Cow

What is that, a white moth on the "yester" cake?

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterShannon

My mind already auto-completed "Happy Yester (Day) before I saw your comment! Oy!

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterdutchgirl

I rather like ham-bunny! I'd like to pet him...then take a bite out of him!

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersamantha

The bunny on the "Easther" cake looks like Anubis to me. Perhaps those of us with an Egyptian religion persuasion should adopt this as a newholiday. For anyone honoring Anubis, I recommend a rum-soaked carrot Easther cake. ; )

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJackalgirl

Are the pineapple "droppings" underneath the hambunny supposed to be....?

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCC

I really wish I could post an audio file on here, cause the voice that comes out of my mouth when I say "Happy Eappy!!" really should be shared with everyone.

Happy Eappy!

Mostly because it's going to be coming out of my mouth all day, and no one else will appreciate or understand. And they'll probably have me committed.

Happy Eappy!!

I guess the more I say it, the more I realize I sound like a deranged parrot... Happy Eappy!!

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterstaxia

@SuBee - Huh? Uh...okay. ;-)

@Sharyn - you just made up for missing yesterday! :-)

@FluffyCow - Groan! I think your brain is doing that "click, whir" thing that Sharyn's was yesterday... ;-)

@Haiku Joy & Mr.Haiku - Congrats on the win!!

@mindy1 - I second the motion for a shout out to our troops on Easter. Stay safe, (but give 'em heck when called for), & hope you're all back home ASAP!

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKarateLady

s/he added a Splicer from BioShock.

I thought it was spelled "Sploicer".

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterarensb

Easther the dog/rabbit is working on his carrot search and rescue skills.

Happy Eappy everyone! :)

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBassgirl

I can get behind a Holiday called EDSTER! :-)

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterEd

"Happy Eappy" means Auntie's had a few drinks before she came over for dinner. It's the sort of thing a very drunk person would find hilarious.

The ham-bunny is . . . disturbing.

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterEileen

Is PaleoBunny kosher?

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterboymom

I'm not an expert, but somehow I doubt anything positive will come of those carrot ears on Hambunny.

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterR3Test

The Ghanaian cake, "Happy Ester"... it's just loaded with yummy esters. Nicely fruit-flavoured, don't you know.

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJoel Polowin

So weird, I didn't even notice the prices in Ghana cedis. I'm actually living in Ghana, so it looked normal to me. Now I want to know where I can get those golden eggs...

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterWorrierPrincess

@cc i hadnt even noticed those until reading your comment..... that makes it even better, or would that be worse?

Anyone else find it sad that the one baker that can spell still found a way to screw it up, its like they do it on purpose

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermel

Happy Eappy, everyone!!

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterlisadh

I need to get that first cake for my dad; Easter falls on his birthday this year!

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterLDM

My first thought when I saw the ham was it's the "Eater" bunny!

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterHeather

I think the #3 cake has a Jack Russell terrier on it.

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterColin M.

It makes me happy to know that someone else thought that looked like a Splicer... and now that the thought has been planted, I plan to wear my Splicer sweatshirt for Easter Sunday and see if anyone notices or says anything. :-D

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAshley

Is it just me, or does the "rabbit" on that third cake actually rather resemble the ghost dog that Snitter encounters in "The Plague Dogs"?

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBADKarma

Jen, you play BioShock?!?! You just got 10 extra points in my book! :D

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBecky-chan

I think the Bioshock Splicer is actually supposed to be the rabbit from Donnie Darko. Both really creepy nonetheless.

Hmm maybe I should break out the bunny Splicer mask I made for Halloween a few years ago this weekend. That wouldn't be weird at all. Right?

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterkatznhund

Nope. Not a Sp(o)licer. Rather it's Frank from Donnie Darko. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5255/5465593569_2c980a3b6e.jpg
He threatens Donnie into saving the universe.

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJCronon

Ham Bunny. Eat him before he eats you!

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKim

Hey, guys, maybe we're being "holidayist" here. We see a bunny on a cake near Easter, and assume they blew it and wrote Eappy by mistake. Well, maybe the bunny's name is Eappy, and he's happy, regardless of the proximity to a certain holiday, which necesssitated he carry eggs. I, for one, will withhold judgment until a few more holidays roll around. Maybe Eappy will show up on a Christmas cake ("Merry Eappy!") or a Halloween cake ("Creepy Eappy!")

(On a releated topic, I am SO ordering a Creepy Eappy cake this year...)

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

@katznhund - i agree, first thing i thought when i saw this was Donnie Darko (creepy!).

why would anyone want to be reminded of that during what is supposed to be a family holiday?

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterlcp

It's too bad that second cake had edster on it. It is a beautiful cake.

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMarie

Definitely playing Bioshock Infinite this weekend! And the Splicer on the one cake is definitely a plus, hehe.

I will have to suggest to Irrational Games that they should include the bunny ham as an enemy in the next dlc for Bioshock Infinite.

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSnoopielyn

Actually, the first one may not be a wreck, there could very well be some girl named Easter whose birthday that was for. Parents name their kids all sorts of stupid things these days.

Hambunny is hilarious.

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterornith

I want that ham-bit! I so want to serve that on Sunday. Granted, I'd need to find a turkey ham in that shape, but still . . .

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTXRed

"You ain't no bunny... Till Hambunny Loves You..."

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBADKarma

I love PaleoBunny. His clove wart really add to his character.

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJennintenn

I think Hambunny is brilliant. I would welcome it to my table.

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAlison in Indiana

#1 Because people named Easter have birthdays, too. Or because someone whose birthday fell on Easter Sunday either feels especially blessed or ripped off.

#2 Ed! The Edster! Edinator! Ed-o-rama!

#3 Happy Easthen from all of us at the Carrot Ranch. Here, our specially trained carrot dog keeps the herd in a bunch.

#4 "It's not politically correct to say, 'Easter' anymore; what should I do?" [SNAP] "I know!"

#5 Hey, just put a line over the 'E' and tell anyone who asks that it's phonetic. It's all good. Yeah...

#6 Something for everyone. Isn't that special. And who invented CCCs, hmmm?

#7 The yolk's on you, wreckerator! I wanted that to be a moth, but it's actually a flotsam dove.

#8 Somehow, I don't think this is a cake. (No need for a preemptive ear scratch, since it's questioning the wreckiness of something that gets you sent to...that room. Take that, cat!)

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCraig

I was glad to see y'all on Good Morning America's Yahoo News Post! I follow you on Facebook and Love your blog! I was tempted to get some pictures of some cakes that someone I know made, but she follows your blog too, I didn't want to offend her!

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterRebekah

Happy birthday Easter lol! I swear my co worker and I were just talking about purposely writing that on a cookie cake.

March 29, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKrystal

The first one could have been for me last year, or about 4 years ago also. The advantages of an Easter birthday... even if you are in your 20s you can convince your parents to still hide eggs for you!

Love the Happy Eappy one, perhaps next year I will re-create!

March 30, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

That "Happy Birthday Easter" actually works for me because my birthday is March 31, which is Easter this year, and was also Easter the year I was born (1991).
I actually kind of want that cake for my birthday this year now, instead of the 1000 pound Costco cake of deliciousness we're getting.

March 30, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterEmma

Sadly I had no time to check in today so I missed Sharyn's EPIC posts. Glad you're back! Hope you got a nap in today at least? (Creepy Eappy is going to make me giggle all night!)

I gotta get my family to come check out today's post so they don't all think I'm weird(er) when I wish them all a Happy Eappy O.O On second thought, maybe that'll just add to the mystery... mwhahahaha

Congratulations Mr. Haiku!

March 30, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

My brain yet again exploded just trying to fathom what these wreckerators are thinking?? Can they not tell these don't look properly spelled or is it just they want those cakes out and hope for the best? Lol I can't stop laughing at the poor bunny and carrots on that one cake..

March 30, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

I have to decorate a bunch of cupcakes for my families Easter get together tomorrow. Now I am filled with the desire to write Happy Birthday Easter on them.

March 30, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterHolly Folly

I'm on the Paleo Diet too. HAM BUNNY IS AWESOME!!

I'm going to make my family a Ham Bunny now :D

March 30, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterDawn

That ham bunny is really rather ingenious, actually.

March 30, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAisha

Was laughing right along til I came to staxia's comment, then I lost it completely. Thanks for that.
