Sunday Sweets: Be My Valentine

Ahhh, love is in the air, my friends! Can you smell it? It's kind of a mix of roses and chocolate and really gigantic cupcakes:

Mmmm. Lovely.
Or, if you prefer more traditional red roses:
By Nicky Grant
Actually, I guess these aren't quite traditional, since they're made of sugar. That makes them superior to real roses, though, because they'll never wilt, they don't have thorns, and, of course, they're the best kind to carry in your teeth while doing the Tango. (NOMZ)
Plus, look at the shine on that chocolate! Wowza!
Speaking of chocolate, doesn't it look great with baby pink?
And all that piping! Sarah has a seriously steady hand.
This cutie-pie first birthday cake may have the most perfect edible bow EVER:
I can't decide which I want to do more: wear it in my hair or eat it. :D
But if a whole cake is too much for you, then how about a few elegantly iced cookies?
Every time I look at this, I pick a new favorite. First it was the cross-stiched heart with the lace trim. Then the swirly heart on the lower left. But now I just spotted the brush embroidery on that winged heart back there, ooh! And look at the little heart next to it with the intricate scrolly bits!
Now here's a funky cool modern design:

The structure of this cake fascinates me, and the lilies are totally playing tricks on my eyes: are the ones on the cakes painted or 3D? The center stamen *look* 3D, but I can't tell!
This is just about the sweetest, cheeriest bouquet you could ever ask for:
I would hang a picture of this cake on my wall in a fun scrolly picture frame just so I can stare at it and smile all day. It's that cheerful.
And, what's this? ANOTHER perfect bow?
By macesicnada
WOW. And I'm digging all the scrolly details inside the hearts - and those little heart buttons! Ack! SO CUTE.
And look at this red, white, and black beauty:
So many great techniques here: the lace trim, the tufted quilting, the dripping streamers...!! I don't just love this cake; I am IN LOVE with this cake.
And I'm over the moon for this fabulous design featuring Cupid's bow and arrow:
I suddenly want to see Katniss Everdeen dressed up as Cupid. Hee! Except, wait...Cupid doesn't wear anything, does he? Whoah, that got awkward fast. NEVER MIND.
And finally, I think it's only fitting to end with a LOVE-themed wedding cake, don't you?
By nice icing
SO SWEET. From the old-style typography to the blue birds to the double heart topper to those colors, I am completely smitten!
Hope you guys are, too - if only with this cakes! - and that you have a wonderful Valentine's and Mardi Gras this week!

Wow. Some of those are just PERFECT. I've always wondered how they're able to create these things.
OMG - all of them! But my favorite is the one by macesicnada - it looks like Delft tilework, only in red instead of blue!
So sweet I could die :D
These were amazing! I can't decide between macesicnada and torte di nadia for what I hope my husband brings home for my birthday today but I'm sure I will end up with something from the base commissary instead. They do have quite yummy cupcakes so that is ok too!
That red, black, and white cake made me think of Alice in Wonderland and the Queen of Hearts
And this is why I gave up on doing cakes for a living. Gorgeous!
Some people have a BLACK HEART. That one cake has no less than THREE.
So odd that the only real ribbon bow (Crowning Cakes, pink roses) looks so bad compared to the fondant ones. Otherwise, cakes universally fabulous!
Chocolate and baby pink is a great combo - those are the colours of my kitchen, along with a little white and silver...add some white piping and those silver sugar beads, and you have an idea of what it looks like. :)
Naked Cupid you say? I'm thinking Hawkeye.
Yeah, Jeremy Renner can play cupid for me ANY day.

So the top one is a cake that looks like a floral arrangement that looks like a cupcake. Woah, meta. (Not to mention, super cute)
The last cake was super cute! I see many a wreck in the future as wreckerators think "Hey! I can make this cake. It's just a bunch of scrunched up fondant!" ;)
Wow, someone managed to steer a conversation about cakes to Jeremy Renner. I LOVE cupid cakes now. I tip my hat to you, "The Wife." :)
I just re-watched The Avengers yesterday so I'm completely in on the Renner 4 Cupid vote! With the black hearts cakes (so gorgeous) can we throw Hiddleston in the mix, too? (pretty please)
I couldn't pick a favorite from these cakes but I love the soft, swirly roses on the top one and that pillowy tufing on the torde di nadia cake!!
Um, yeah. That torte di nadia cake is definitely a valentine's cake with a hidden message!
AWWW Pretty!!
I love theses, apropriatley...
BTW its normal for cupid to wear a very short toga type dress and a wreath of leaves on his head here in the UK.
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!
Okay, Alison & Barbara Anne, I am totally in favor of Renner as naked Cupid and Hiddleston as black hearted baddie. Best. Valentine's Day. Ever.
Really, when ISN'T a conversation improved by bringing it around to nekkid Renner? Throwing in Hiddleston is just icing on the cake. Heh.

OK, looking at the cookies - who else thinks of Ferris Buehler when they look at the t-shirt/vest cookie?
squee! so beautiful!
