The 12 Best Gingerbread Houses of 2013

Buckle up, Sweets fans, 'cuz I'm about to show you the best gingerbread house creations in all of the interwebz - and you're going to want all of them.
(By Goodies By Anna)
Sugar glass windows, candy cane porch pillars, and teeny-tiny chocolate sunflower seed flowers. These are the things dream homes are made of, my friends.
Or maybe you're more of an urban high-rise type?
FACT: Baby deer make the best doormen.
Or how about a spin on the open seas?
In my mind, of course, the seas are made up of hot cocoa. MMMMM.
I've seen a couple of cookie vignettes before, but this one just blows me away:

Look at that picture-perfect piping! And I love - LOVE - the tea light cut-out in the middle. Makes for such a gorgeous display.
Of course I had to include the gingerbread bakery, now, didn't I?
(Also by Goodies By Anna)
Check out the goodies in the windows! And the roof cresting on top is STUNNING. I assume it's made with royal icing, but to get it all installed without cracking? That's gotta be insanely hard.
Ok, time for a geeky side trip:

... to Hobbiton! (It's all about that round green door, am I right? Although I'm also loving the snow-covered trees.)
And for you Breaking Bad fans:
(By Sugarplum Cake Shop)
Ha! So many great details here, but my favorite has to be those yellow suits. Or the snowman in the DEA cap. Or the orange stripes on the RV.
And speaking of orange...
(By Paradox Pastry)
I am completely enamored with these colors - and that swirly chimney "smoke."
This gingerbread cottage looks straight out of Disney's Fantasyland:

Love.
See, now, I want to live in that cottage, but I want this one on my desk so I can stare at it all day:
(By Sassy Beautimus)
... right after I finish eating the roof.
And my very VERY favorite of hers:
(Also by Sassy Beautimus)
The girly squees are strong with this one.
Seriously, pastel rainbows and gingerbread brown are a match made in heaven.
And finally, the perfect traditional gingerbread house, with a heaping side of cozy goodness:
COZY GOODNESS, YOU GUYS.
So, who else is off to buy a gingerbread house kit now? :)

My two year loved them! "nummy's more houses!"
Oh my god I want to smash that cottage onto the back of Bilbo's house and then have the baby deer for doormen and then I want to have the pirate ship pull up into a secret underground grotto like Hogwarts has and take it to work everyday like it's a water taxi.
What? It could happen...
Can't breathe, so much squee!
There's a video tutorial on YouTube on making a TARDIS from two of the gingerbread kits (you need two because the roof panels become the sides). Very very cool.
The detail on the bakery is amazing. I absolutely love the little colored lights strung above the 2nd story windows!
Both of Sassy's houses are truly squee-derful! Jen, if you called dibs on the Kit Kat roof, can I have the one made of Smarties?

Gorgeous!
I love making gingerbread houses! And now I'm going to have to attempt that filigree on the roof, even though it looks insanely delicate.
I am in complete awe of that ship. And the baker who came up with the idea.
I love the Smarties on the roof!!
I love the urban high-rise with the deer doormen...just remember to tip them this holiday season ...a few bucks for the men and a some dough for the ladies....
Gingerbread Nativity FTW!!! :-D
If you love gingerbread houses, make sure to stop by The Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC sometime around Christmas. The National Gingerbread House Competition is held there. Looks like a couple of the houses in the post are taken in the Grove Park. So yummily beautiful!
"Ooh!"
"Awww!"
(screeching brakes)
"Hey! Are those Kit Kats!? Yummy!"
For those who live in the Midwest and who would like to see a lot of gingerbread creations, Belleville, IL has an annual Gingerbread Walk during the holiday season. The stores downtown have gingerbread creations in the windows. See www.belleville.net for details.
Wow! Now I'm hungry. I spy Kit Kats on the roof I think.
I'd not wish to have to pick a winner, or even a top #, but I'd love to take part in looking, admiring, (dare I say) tasting . . . Thanks for sharing!
These are pretty good, but you should see the AMAZING creations we had at our Festival of Trees this year. Now those are WOW!!!
So many squeee worthy houses, the one that made me laugh was the breaking bad one XD
I've been wanting to put in some stepping stones from the driveway to the porch but have been struck with analysis paralysis for years - concrete, flagstone, square, round? Now I know - NECCO WAFERS!
I thought the breaking bad was mythbusters. I totally want to see a mythbusters gingerbread now.
Not as good as the ones chosen, but this is a Zombiebread House I did a couple years ago...

The ones made by Sassy make me think of the witch's house in Hansel and Gretel. If you happened upon such a house in the middle of a forest who wouldn't start eating it?
My goodness - can't begin to pick a favorite. These are absolutely AMAZING. The talent that it takes to create these wonders is beyond my comprehension (and so beyond my capability). Kudos all around for such wondrous treats!!!
I love this site so much. I truly need this dose of Christmas cheer.
These are amazing!
They are gorgeous. We tried it once and the sides kept sliding off. But what I really liked is the red and white star quilt behind one of them.
1. I bet that bakery would NEVER produce a wreck!
2. OH MY GOSH THE HOBBIT!!!!!!!!!!! EEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been doing gingerbread projects every year for the past 11 years, these are amazing!!!
Very inspirational. Wow...can't wait until next year...boy have I got ideas :)
If you want to see what we entered in the Festival of Trees the last 4 years..check out SugarSugar Saskatoon on facebook. We have won People's choice 4 years in a row but these stand out as exceptional
Actually, I would NOT like to live in the "Disney" house. The decorative snow drifts coming out from under the shingles would worry me. (The adorable miniature snowshoes just would not help as the ceiling starts to leak in a thaw.)
But I would sail away in the gingerbreat ship on a hot chocolate sea in the blink of an eye.
These baby deer doormen are just another sign of urban encroachment.....and forcing deer to get jobs so they can forage for food.
On another note, I would TOTALLY live in any of those gingerbread houses. And then sneakily lure children to come inside.....And dress them up as adorable elves to cause havoc and mayhem to the surrounding villages of abandoners. :D
(what you thought I was gonna eat them? Dude, I'd live in a house made of FOOD, who wants to eat kids? >P bleh.)
Yeaa! Gingerbread! All of these are great, but I was really impressed with the Nativity one.
Too bad you didn't post this last week when I needed gingerbread inspiration! I just dropped off my house to a cntest this morning.
Just in case no one else has informed you, Cake Wrecks was shown on prime time telly in Britain this week on Graham Norton's talk show! :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj9wDE-zvdg -- at 3:25
Am I the only one who sees the Mythbusters in the Breaking Bad one? I saw it the other night and thought it looked a bit like Hyneman! (mind you, I never watched Breaking Bad either)
I love them! These are really helping me get into the Christmas spirit despite the ridiculous 70 degree highs we've been having here in Florida (it is just WRONG to be able to wear sandals while picking out a Christmas tree!)
So much gingerbread goodness, I love, love, love the pastel roof!!! And, yes, now I must find a gingerbread house kit. :-)
Oh my gosh! The gingerbread ship! It's perfection in cookie form!
That little snowman in front of the last gingerbread house?...with the snowballs on his widdle head?...looking at the Snowfriend-To-Be that's in front of him? Well, he's just so darn precious... I'm gonna love him and hug him and pet him and call him George. =^-.-^=
Nope, not off to buy a kit cause I have now seen PERFECTION IN GINGERBREAD.
Oh my gosh. I didn't even see the tiny widdle snowman with teensy snowballs until you mentioned it, sendingtheclowns!! Too precious!
I just made a gingerbread house that I thought looked pretty good. . .but, GAH! Now I have to try again!!!
Thank you, I loved looking at these! I almost forgot how much I love gingerbread houses.
I especially loved the tiny baked goods in the display windows of the gingerbread bakery! So tiny and perfectly detailed!
I love the Necco wafer path! I bought some to use in the house I'm making, but wasn't sure what to do with them (was thinking roof tiles). Now I have a better idea!
The Disney one looks like hagred's house from harry potter. Anyone else? Bueller?
the lasts 4 (well, the last 3 mostly) must've have had some industrial-strength icing to hold that stuff on the roofs.
