Sunday Sweets: A Peck of Pastel Pretties

(I pulled John's sister Anne Marie over to do Sweets this week. Everyone say "hi, Anne Marie!")
When I think of pastels, I always think of The Wicked Awesome 80's. Back then I wasn't into neon, so the only other options for clothes, makeup and jewelry were in pastels. I had perfectly matching mint green eye shadow, stretchy belt, and Reebok Freestyle aerobic sneakers. And needless to say, I looked totally radical.
But the BEST place for pastels is definitely cake.
I usually wonder how anyone can cut into all these lovely sweets, but in this case, half the beauty is inside!
Ruffly goodness!
And I LOVE the tiny bunting on these layers:
Its got that Victorian garden party feel to it. Perfect with a spot of tea!
These sugar flowers could easily be mistaken for real flowers - but they're better, 'cuz they're SUGAR!

And that's not a trick of the light - the icing on the rest of the cake is really soft grey! Pretty!
This birdcage design features the loveliest mint green icing:

Anyone else hoping that hook on top is a huge Hershey's Kiss?
I feel the urge to give this bitty blue birthday bear (I think we should call him George) a big squeeze and huggie:
Think Heleena would mind?
Teeny, tiny, perfectly formed roses on the bottom +
precisely piped swags encircling the top tier =
Perfection!

I wish the roses in my backyard were that lush!
My, my, Mr. Owl! What big eyes you have!

Now here's a Sweet alternative to cupcake cakes: a cupcake bouquet!
I can see myself sitting daintily in a parlor, nibbling one flower at a time from my own, personal cupcake. [dreamy sigh]
Is it just me, or is seafoam green and soft peach the PERFECT color combo?
It just makes me happy.
This falls into the 'can't bear to cut into it' category.
The detail!
The butterflies!

And you know what I like best? The cake is covered in Sugarpaste.
Doesn't that just sound scrumptious?
(Yeah, I know its another word for fondant, but just let me dream, m-kay?)

I absolutely love them all, but I want the cupcake bouquet for my kitchen window! It's beautiful and could be used for a quick snack, if needed. ;-)
Hi Anne Marie! (What, no embarrassing John stories? You missed your sisterly chance.) The pastels were perfect.
Hi, Anne Marie! Good job! I'll have a small sice of the first cake, please, and then maybe I'll take a cupcake from the cupcake bouquet for later, thank you.....
I love all of these cakes, but my favorite is the birdcage cake!
Cake #1: I know I had a sweater in the 80's with every single one of those colors on it. Much prettier on cake.
Love love LOVE the cupcake bouquet. Positively exquisite.
I simply love the 1 by jelly cake <3 <3
Ok, just one embarrassing John story:
One day, when he was very little, he decided to run away from home.
Except he didn't get far. Not sure if he thought better of the idea, but when our mom got home from work, she found him sitting on the stairs, his blue eyes filled with tears.
Not the most experienced traveler at 7 years old, he had packed only one paper grocery store bag for the trip. It was filled with nothing but his socks.
Ann Marie- I hope you take off your delicate lace gloves before you nibble the icing roses in the parlor -and save me a spot will you? THAT puts and end to if for once and all: there is ONE good CCC!!
(waves cheerily at John and giggle/snorts)
Those cupcake hydrangeas have and amazngly realistic mix of blue and pink. growers aim for blue, which yoi get by making the spoil more acidic. I'm impressed they made such detail.
Ooh pretty!
Beautiful!
See? SEE?? It CAN be pretty difficult to cut into some of these.
Hi Anne Marie! All of these cakes look too good to eat, but I'll take the owl, if no one else minds.
@Anne-Marie: Socks are actually pretty practical. My son did the same at 7, but packed only Hot Wheels cars... and he didn't even make it as far as the stairs, once he realized how many toys he'd have to leave behind.
I love your Sunday posts. That top cake is girly perfection. I want it! :^)
I absolutely love the butterfly cake and God willing, someday I will get married and have something as beautiful as this to help celebrate. :)
Hi Anne Marie! I've been trying to decide which owl is the best owl, and now I know.
That cupcake bouquet is amazing. Pinned it!
@Anne Marie -- your story about your brother john (thoj) just shows that even at an early age he had sox appeal....
It is good to know that there are some good cakes out there. I love your site and often burst out laughiing when I see the disasters. But it is good to see some very special cakes too. The bouquet was also my favourite.
Sea foam green and peach - ahh, transported back to my bedroom in the 80's. Thanks Anne Marie!
I've been making cupcake bouquets for several years! They are so easy!
Hi Anne Marie! Nice to meet you and thank you very much for the totally tubular and awesome 80's references! Class of '87! Woot woot! 25 year reunion next week...just might go....nah. hahahaha!
Hi, Anne-Marie! Long time, no see. Thanks for the great Sunday Sweets post.
My favorite is the light grey-iced cake. The flowers on top are gorgeous, and I love the rounded shape of the cake - it softens the look.
Anne-Marie (not the Wrecksistant ;) )
Hi, Anne Marie.
If all you wore was mint green eye shadow, a stretchy belt, and Reebok Freestyle aerobic sneakers, I'd say you likely looked totally radical! 8-] 8-o !
Cutest. Story. Ever.
Is it just me, or is seafoam green and soft peach the PERFECT color combo?
It is! Because those are the colors I painted my room in 1983.
Wow!!! Some people are just so talented So unfair!! :-)))
