Sunday Sweets Goes To The Beach

There's 104 days of summer vacation
And school comes along just to end it
So the annual problem for our generation
Is finding a good way to spennnnd it...
And what better place to spend your summer vacation than at the beach? Phineas and Ferb obviously agree, and who can argue with those guys?
So snap open your lounge chairs and get ready to enjoy today's beachy-keen sweets. Starting with this lovely:
Ahhh. I actually feel more relaxed just looking at this. How people can bring themselves to eat these exquisite creations, I'll never undersand.
And you're going to love this collection of underwater friends...

and anemones.
Let's all wave hello to this next one...

'cuz I hear it brings good tidings!
(Ok, ok, I'm sorry about all the beach puns. No matter what I do they just keep rolling in. But seriously, isn't this cake swell?)
Now here's a tasteful take on a beach-themed wedding cake:
By Sheryl Brou
I love that they didn't go overboard.
(Sea what I did there?)
(Ugh, I'm sorry! I'm even annoying myself now. I'll try to reel it in.)
Here's a sweet little seahorse. I think it's totally cute:
Water you thinking a boat it?
Sorry! I can't help it. I'll just go with the flow.
Like the tiny pearl bubbles floating along the gentle waves of this cake. Simply buoy-tiful.
And I love the graduating colors of fondant here, and the dusting of "sand:"
Tangent time: I once had a good friend who enjoyed eating actual sand. Turns out she was deficient in some essential mineral. Which was a relief, since we were about to take her to the lagoony bin.
It's a shore bet she would have loved this sand castle cake though:
The "sand" is crushed Nilla wafers, should you care to recreate this look for yourself or a loved one who does not enjoy eating actual sand.
There's so much goodness in this next sandy scene, how shell I ever pick a favorite?
I love the pinwheels and the tiny picnic in the corner.
Oh, and the embossed pattern on the mini tablecloth! Great little detail.
This final cake is so incredible and realistic you'll swear it's alive. I squid you not.

Wow, that sucker is beautiful!
(Specifically, the third one from the bottom.)
Whale, I hope you got your fill of beach-themed sweets (and puns) today. I'm sure you're clamoring for more, but that should tide you over for a while!
As always, if you have a Sweet to nominate, send it to Sunday Sweets [at] Cake Wrecks [dot] com.

Love them all, but the sandcastle and wedding cake were especially lovely :D
I have a 9 yr old with Autism, and he LOVES Phineas and Ferb! (so do I, actually) He's going to dig that cake!
See what I did there? :-D heh.
Lindsey: LOVE the puns -- and any people who disagree are probably just a bunch of beaches... Jaw-droppingly beautiful cakes, as usual, and wonderful commentary.
I like the second one best. It reminds me of the Adirondack chairs my next door neighbors had when I was growing up. These two have a truly sublime bit of oceanfront property to preside over.
I seem to recall someone else saying she didn't know how anybody could actually eat such divine creations... Haven't heard from her in a while...
Okay, if cake #2 was a wedding cake, I take back everything I have against nontraditional wedding cakes. And the all white wedding cake was gorgeous.
Today's cakes are truly a case of Beauty and the Beach.
Lindsey: I agree with Sharyn!!
I, too, love the chair and all white wedding cakes.
Amateur baker Kristina whooo? o.O Amateur baker Kristina should open up a shop, fast!!
Awesome puns!!! Cakes are terrific, too.
Hey, where's Perry?
(Tina: So do I! Except mine's a her, and has a twin sister, also with special needs. I try very hard not to think about the teen years.)
That last cake reminds me of this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/9438541@N04/4058859283/
All of these cakes are like a visual vacation! :-D
Great beach puns, Lindsey! You never floundered! Kip Adotta would be proud!!
As a die hard Phineas and Ferb fan, I'm a tiny bit disappointed that you didn't quote the Backyard Beach song. But, I'm a grown-up. I'll put on my big girl panties and bear up! Which is the opposite of bare up and would involve taking my big girl panties off. None of us want this...
These are all gorgeous as usual.
Kristina H. should go pro! Wonderful work, all of them. But I'd drift toward the beach and sand masterpiece topped by the Adirondack chairs, if I had to choose a certain tack.
All I have to say is... hey... where's Perry?
(doooby do ba do wa...)
I love the seahorse! Did you know they can trot, canter and scallop? :)
I wanna sit in those Adirondack chairs! No, I wanna have another wedding just so I can have that cake! It bespeaks a peaceful life ahead. Blessings on that couple and their cake decorator!
NO NO NO "Tide you over for a WHALE!!!" not "WHILE!" LOL this was fab!
Love the cakes and the puns! I would really like a Phineas & Ferb cake for my birthday this year, so if any of my friends are paying attention, this one please.:-)
YES. Your intro is full of WIN. I love Phineas and Pherb!
At least you stayed away from the puns in Kip Addotta's "Wet Dream". lol
Speaking of tangents...do you read the comic strip "Pearls before Swine"? I feel like you would enjoy it...it's often very punny. :)
Phineas and Ferb for the win! I LOVE these cakes! They all just amaze me! Is the fence edible on the lawn chair cake? And how do they keep the wave from crashing down? It looks so heavy. And those mini sandwiches are just so perfect! Also, Kristina H. must be a marine biologist or something. Those creatures look absolutely real!
Hey Ferb, I know what we're going to do today. We're going to make tons of awesome beach puns while surfing! Or looking at cakes.
I still want to get my hands on one of those "Fireside Girls Handbooks." I bet they have a "Puns for beach cakes" section. And this entire post is it!
My eyes were feasting on all these glorious cakes. But my cheeks are now stiff from cringing and my teeth ache. All that sand looks way too real! I'm not sure I could eat any of the sandy cakes. (Although they're all too pretty for me to cut into anyway.) Nilla wafers, huh.
No need to apologize, Cakewrecks would not be the same without the occasional pun-overdose!
Buoy-oh-buoy, these are pierless. You'd have to shell out a lot of clams for these, shore enough. No wrecks atoll.
It's nice to see decorators with good social morays -- I bet a lot of wreckorators would krill to be able to make cakes like these.
Coral: where seahorses are kept.
Did you know that the platypus is the only mammal to lay eggs? I love Perry! I wanna Perry Cake!
LAGOONY BIN! bwaaahahaha
Yay, Phineas and Ferb! I love those guys. :D
That was a lot of pun! And punny and pun!
"How people can bring themselves to eat these exquisite creations, I'll never undersand."
They're probably fake. At the bakery where I work most of the wedding cakes are fake--just fondant and decorations over styrofoam and maybe the top part is actual cake. I guess the bride and groom get to keep them though; maybe they keep them on display in their houses or something. I certainly would!
There's nothing amateur about Kristina's work. And I can't believe the squid (or is it an octopus? ) is cake!
Wow, the wave looks delicious! I want to lick the top off, though I'd feel terrible afterwards, both from the sugar and the guilt (something I say quite often).
Sand eating: That's usually pica, which is eating a lot of weird stuff. Eating sand is usually a lack of iron. If you look at that Wiki link, be sure to click on the picture on the top right -- it'll show and tell you all the stuff found in a woman's stomach.
doodlebug -- octopus -- octo is eight, and that's the number of legs; squid have 10 legs and a very different shape of head.
Heh...and you actually made me look at the third sucker from the bottom on the octopus cake. I blame the early hour...yeah, that's it. ;)
More to the point, these cakes are GORGEOUS!!!
I love you. And your puns.
So off on a tangent here, but how long is everybody's summer vacation, on average? Because according to their intro song, Phineas and Ferb get 15 weeks, which is a whole month longer than we get around here. Lucky :)
After the first cake, I was hoping to continue the song. There have to be some cool rocket/Mummy/Eiffel Tower, etc. cakes out there! Bring us Phineas and the Ferbtones! :)
All the cakes are jaw-droppingly gorgeous, BUT (my apologies) the sand castle one... Sorry :( I just don't see it being in the Sunday Sweets category.... (just my opinion, don't shoot! (=
[Two ears perk up and a tail begins to twitch...]
I shoot wrecks, not people. People are treated to my *extensive* song repertoire.
How about a nice 'Macarena' marathon. Wait, that's redundant -- even I can't stand that one. 'Friday'? The William Shatner cover of 'Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds' -- one of my purr-sonal favorites.
Perhaps you prefer poetry. But 'prefer' might not be the right word. I have a particular author in mind: Jeltz, by name. Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz. You may have heard of him.
(Craig here. I scooped up Theardare on his way to Room 101 for a sound check. I gave him a scratch behind the ears and had him chase the laser pointer for a while. I keep telling him that Sunday Sweets doubting -- done gently -- is just an opinion; wreck doubting is questioning the Original Poster. At least he's content for now.)
Hey, where's Perry?
Love these, but Phineas & Ferb are the best!
I love Phineas and Ferb! These cakes are all awesome, but that first one really makes me smile :) I've been on a kick of painting characters from that show. I know you're all into Disney, I hope you have had a chance to watch it!
http://theycallmecrafty.wordpress.com/2012/06/01/perry-and-meap/
I think I would love to have Theadare as a pet. He sounds cute, and fluffy.
Lindsey (and the rest of the CW team)! Great job on the puns!! I didn't know there were so many water/ocean.beach puns available to be made! I laughed so hard my throat is now sore. Well done!
Craig, awesome job as usual with keeping up the commentary/puns.
P.S. I second the Phineas and Ferb love. Good job! <3

What a surprise to find you had featured one of my cakes in your "Sunday Sweets" section! Thanks to those who liked my all white wedding cake. I am a home baker and made this for a friend who was married on the beach at Fripp Island, South Carolina.
i dont think the sand looks very tasty, but all of the cakes looks delisiuo
