What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

Those are phenominal! Each one more impressive than the last. Now it's time to get my Pin on.

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHeather

Beatlejuice is by far my favorite :D

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCrystal

Nice to see Tremors get some love, what an underrated gem

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSean

All I can say about the one after the Ghost Busters cake is "ack ack ack ack ack ack ack."

And is the one after that really Tremors? That's so awesome.

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGeorge P

Love the Monty Python cake, I want one!

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEvan

Oh dear, another discordant jolt this Sunday morning. I wonder if I should leave the house today. Have we run out of bakers who know how to do "concordant" Sigh....

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNorine

Now THIS is the best. Post. Ever.

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterFluffy Cow

Baker's big secret?
Pop-Rocks in the funfetti.
Taste the explosion!

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

Where's the scwubbery??

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDiddleymazi

Wonderful cakes and commentary. I MUST have the killer rabbit part of the Monty Python cake for next year's Easter dessert. (Perhaps with a side of raspberry coulis?) I'd be thrilled to get any of these, but I wouldn't cut the last one with anything less lethal than a chain-saw -- it looks like it would fight back.

Hey, John, it's not TV, it's HBO. ;)

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

Hey, it's a Mars Attacks! cake! Talk about underrated movies...that one had me in hysterics from start to finish. So nice that someone else remembers it.

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterShanti

So much love for the Monty Python cakes - a Knight Who Says 'Ni', Holy Hand Grenade, Black Knight...and the piéce de resistance - the Killer Rabbit. So cool. I also love the Cake of the Covenant and the Game of Thrones Cake, though they both be dangerous to behold. Especially considering who currently sits on the Iron Throne.

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered Commentercal

Aw yiss, Tremors! Never has a graboid looked so appetizing.

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNaomi

they're all nice, but i love the first one.

i sometime wonder how people explain these things to the bakers? to they come armed with pictures or drawings?

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterarchersangel

I love Mars Attacks! I tell everyone the fire panel behind my desk is bilingual. It's in English and Martian. Several of the buttons are status buttons that have to be acknowledged in order to shut down the alarm. The writing on them is Fire Ack, Sprinkler Ack, Alarm Ack etc. Ack, ack, ack. No birds, and play lots of Slim Whitman.

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHyena Overlord

The Iron Throne cake is impressive! Thanks for including it! That show is my new guilty indulgence. Love Sunday Sweets!

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

Is this post based rather heavily on a bit by comedian Pablo Francisco? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qvv8SMTyAgk at about 1:50 .

Regardless, nothing's really original, and the post is still hilarious. And DEM CAKES! The Ark of the Covenant cake makes me want to see a cake of the Southern Oracle from Neverending Story.

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterInaya

Mindy, the cake you are asking about is Tremors. These cakes are fantastic! I especially love the Edward Scissorhands one.

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJessica

Diddleymazi - the scwubbery is behind Edward Scissorhands. When it's all prettied up like that we call it topiary, but it's essentially the same thing.

PHENOMENAL cakes - almost a crime to cut into them!

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermouse

Awesome cakes!
I love this website.... the good, the bad, and the ugly!

Thanks!

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCakeLover

Wow! These movie cakes are amazing. 50 points to whatever couple loves Tremors so much that they wanted it on their wedding cake. Fantastic.

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterzombiekim

These are friggin awesome. The Tremors cake......one word....FINALLY! Loved the Monty Python cake. I'm so demanding my husband get me that for my birthday. :)

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterApril

I actually read that in an epic movie trailer voice.

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMay

OMG the Holy Grail cake if flippin awesome!!!!!

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterValerie

The Game of Thrones was AWESOME! Each cake was delightful. I kept thinking how are they going to top that one, and then the GAME OF THRONES cake. My favorite!

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBrendaB

The Holy Grail one is so awesome! I want that for my wedding cake LOL. The Ghostbusters and Edward Scissorhands ones are fantastic too!

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAimz

Finally someone has given some recognition to tremors.. Just awesome!

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSusan

There appears to be a gap in my cultural knowledge. What's the one after Napoleon?

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterspidey

“Tremors” cake? Freakin’ awesome! Actually, so much coolness in this post my brain has imploded.

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara Anne

Thanks for featuring my Tremors wedding cake - and thanks for all of the great comments on it!

The cake was actually made for a competition a few years ago (http://www.celebrationgeneration.com/blog/2009/11/10/you-know-what-would-be-awesome-3 for more details and pics). It had to be primarily chocolate, and it had to be an "animal" themed wedding cake. Grabboids count, right?

I'm still disappointed that I never came across a local competition themed around flowers/plants. I'm still itching for an excuse to make a Triffid themed wedding cake!

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMarie Porter

Ooooh! Mars Attacks was my cosplay from the Calgary Expo this year!
Me and Edward Scissorhands!

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCheyanna

I think the one after the Napoleon cake is Pulp Fiction, though I must admit I only watched that movie sporadically from behind my hands - it was freakin' violent!

Loved the Beetlejuice cake - what a blast from the past. Michael Keaton at his small-headed finest.

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRingerGirl

That Edward Scissorhands is absolutely amazing as well as the Mars Attack cake. The three I don't like are the Beetlejuice one since it's much less amazing once you realize the Beetlejuice character is an action figure you can buy and Game of Thrones, what's with the lazyboy underbell? And lastly, why don't the tremors people have faces??

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKirsten

Thanks for including our cake, which technically isn't a movie. Well, it's a made-for-tv movie, so it probably still counts! :D

Thanks, Cake Wrecks!

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterThe Bunny Baker

Tremors is one of my favorite childhood memories (I was lucky to have a grandmother who was waayy into scary/sci fi movies), and I grinned from ear to ear seeing it in cake. Thanks for sharing!

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNikkitron

Spidey- I believe that is a Pulp Fiction cake... A tiny little edible John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson.... :D

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHermione'sMama

I never in a million years thought I'd ever see a Tremors cake. I LOVE IT!

May 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJulia

The "Ghostbusters" cake, FTW!

May 7, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBadKarma

No one steps on a church in my town!

Maureen

P.S. It was great to see you in Pittsburgh!

'Those are my lines."

"Those are his lines!"

Love your commentary!

May 7, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterwonkerdoo

Love em! Except for me the Tremors' one is a fail - really not great...

May 7, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterK

I came to post about the hilarious borrowing of Pablo Francisco's bit. I was too late!

"Double the action, Triple the excitement *GET DOWN!* More of the excitement! *GET DOWN AGAIN!*"

May 7, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLeAnna

Let's call this a revelation in cake...why did it not occur to anyone...until witnessed in cake...that there are TWO WEEPING ANGELS on the top of the Ark of the Covenant? Doesn't that splain a lot, lucy?

May 7, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterteh pea

WHAT?? No-one liked Napoleon Dyanmite? Napoleon Dynamite ROCKS!

VOTE FOR PEDRO!

May 8, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBobbi

Just now looking at Sunday sweets this time around. I love the move Trimmers. I also remember watching Beetle Juice as well as the Holy Grail. But I do admitt, I don't recognize all of them.
