What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Head Scratchers

Fellow wreckies, you will never in a million years believe what this cake is supposed to be:

Go on. Try to guess. I'll wait.

[whistling]

Ready?

Did you guess a buck-toothed snake?

Did ya? Did ya didyadidyahuh?

'Cuz that's not it.

Here, I'll give you a hint. It's the same thing THESE are supposed to be:

(Pay no attention to my snazzy photoshopping; I had to take out a piece of flotsam that might give it away.)

So now you're wondering what a buck-toothed eel has to do with a leprechaun's pots of gold.

Good question.

Ah - but the plot is about to thicken!

Much like these mashed potatoes.

And yes, this is also the same thing those other things are supposed to be.

Ok, if you haven't figured it out by now, here's the clincher:

All clear now?

No?

Ok, ok, then THIS one will do it for sure:

Or maybe I'm just messing with your head.

Aheh.

Heheh.

Aha.

Aha-ha!

AHAHAHAA!

MWUA-HAHAHAHAAA!!!

(So that's, you know, coming along.  I've been working with a vocal coach. Which, come to think of it, doesn't make much sense when I TYPE everything...)

Thanks to Zack Z., Jayme H., Jason C., Colin G., & Melissa K. for the boot to the heads.

(Nyaa-nyaaa!)

I originally thought...Wow, what a cool question mark with teeth. Then I saw the second picture and thought...Aww...yellow pumpkins playing Pong. But no, no, no...I moved on to the third photo and realized...Aha! What a nice, fluffy, airbrushed cloud. Lovely, but no. Of course! The fourth one makes it all clear, but what's Oscar the Grouch doing in that little jail? Oh no? Well, you can't fool me! That last one is obviously a pink shoe for a person with the gout.

Too many meds today? Well, my team didn't even make the playoffs, so I have a reason to ignore football! Ho hum. Since I love football, however, I will be rooting for the Giants on Sunday. Way to stink it up this year, Chargers!

I'm lost on the pink thing at the end. But thanks for the Doctor Horrible shout-out!

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterUbi Dubium

I wasn't guessing football helmets, but I was distracted by that Hannibal Lecter duck in the first picture. LOL.

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPam

After reading the posts, I can see what these are. I can see them now! Like magic pictures: just random junk, then - it's a unicorn!

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKay

Wow, I never would have guessed football helmets! I seriously thought it was some form of demented snake-demon. I can't believe that these are professionally made.

Happy birthday, zoomom!! Forty is the start of the good years- and, even if it’s not, your memory starts to slip a little so you don’t remember it all. Happy birthday, zoomom!! Forty is the.oh, yeah…see?? :D

Okay, from #2 and #4, I can see the helmets. #3 is a really, really ticked off class 2 vapor. The pink one is clearly a slipper- probably one of Jasmine’s from “Alladin.” That or a fancy wrapped femine product or personal massager. However, that first one? Truly “what the frosting” inducing. Swan with muzzle? I just cannot fathom how #1 is a helmet. I really cannot see it.

I think the evil laugh is coming along very well and your coach is doing a great job. If you can’t grasp it vocally then how can you possibly type it properly. (nods knowingly)

@victhsht Good news: I liked your pun. Bad news: I liked your pun. (shakes head) I’m not the best example of a fan you’d want to have…

I had football helmet by the second cake. x3 When I was at my local supermarket all they had that I saw were green cupcakes with generic football flotsam and football shaped cupcake cakes (which were actually pretty decently designed, since the scalloped shape was disguised by having the football surrounded by grass). They obviously aren't taking sides.

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

Si think its a Hockey stick, my husband... said a flamingo?

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAudra

I guessed "football helmets" in my first post (I was #3 today). However, a lot of folks have mentioned hockey helmets and, considering Jen's Canadian roots and the fact that the NHL All-Star game was this past Sunday, this post COULD have something to do with hockey (and not necessarily the upcoming Super Bowl, uh, I mean, BIG GAME (oopsie!). Either way: LET'S GO STEELERS! LET'S GO PENS!

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMargaret

CLUE!!!! (I don't even know if this post is going to make it through Jen's moderation. To be fair, I'm being nice and not swearing! I swear! LOL :)

Hover your mouse over each picture and look at the bar along the bottom of your computer - it gives the 'name' of each photo and the words "football" and "helmet" appear in each one except the last one. The last one has "Melissa" and "shoe".

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMargaret

Obviously, the first one is a depressed sock puppet. Obviously.

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEmily

hahahahaha lynne my sentiments exactly!!!! i am dying here. although i must confess, i started to doubt myself at the mashed potatoes...LOL...

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterashley p

The last one is a twisted slipper banana. The rest is a mystery! Except the pumpkins. Got that. :)

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJake and Me

Why do those pumpkins have rollbars? Are they street racing gourds?

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSusanna K.

I guessed football helmets from the very first one, but that's not why I'm commenting. You, brilliant person, just keep trying to upset the status quo, because the status is NOT quo.

(If you haven't guess, it was your awesome Dr. Horrible reference that prompted this "You rock!!" comment)

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKatie

I've been looking at this website way too much -- I guessed these were helmets when I got to the second one. I keep trying to tell myself I never would have guessed it if the Superbowl weren't this Sunday.

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSusan

Tricia, I saw a really bad horse at first, but the blue color threw me off. How about this for the first one? The black net is a basketball hoop and the white part is the trajectory of the basketball which is the black dot that's about to SWISH! Ok, so I'm not very creative... ☺

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLinda

I guessed football helmet after a quick glance at the first one, I will saw that it tok me quite a while to realize the last one was a shoe.

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJes

I don't really care what they are, as long as I don't have to eat one. I dropped in to say I <3 your Dr. Horrible quote. Whee! (don!)

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSolarmama

Revenge of the overbite!

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered Commenteranon

Well I think that first cake looks like a snake with a muzzle. So nope don't know what these cakes could possibly be implying about this Sunday lol .

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

After reading comments to try and understand the bucktoothed snake and my granny's pink towelling slipper, I keep hearing things about football helmets and some kind of super bowl. Is that what Superman makes his salads in? Being an Aussie girl who hates sports (very un-Australian of me, I know) I am thoroughly confused.

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterWolverine Girl

Honestly, made it through the whole thing with not ONE clue what they were. Had to go to the comments to figure it out. Guess I won't try playing Pictionary any time soon!

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKati

The first one looks like a swan with a muzzle.

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHerma

Thanks Barbara Anne!

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterzoomom

Och, it's Nessie!

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCheryl

I love your very subtle reference to dr. Horrible <3

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBroadwaybecky

I get that they are all football helmets, but the last one looks like a sanitary napkins decorated with puff paints/

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterkatieQ

So many people ignore that laugh. But that's about STANDARDS.

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKatie

Ahh.... Dr. Horrible. I love him.

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKelly

Another possibility for the second one - cinderella's coach after midnight.... in duplicate..... with a broken wheel, and some of Cinderella's rags. Oh, and a poor little green snake it ran over before it 'poofed' back into a pumpkin. Perhaps it was a relative of the buck-toothed snake from #1?
And the last one is the poor little snake's coffin.
Oh! I get it..... this is like a funeral scene - Cousin Bucky gets up to do the eulogy, and talks about how Cousin Emerald died (flashback to gruesome scene of death).... then he has to stop and blow his nose, (see - #3 is his face behind the tissue). #4 shows the driver of the pumpkin (a green lizard) behind bars, as he should be.... and the last one is the coffin , as it is gently laid to rest on a snowy morning...... see? Mystery SOLVED..... and you thought they were (snigger) football helmets :)

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTrinimum

Just looking at the first one, I thought Salvador Dali hockey stick and puck. Didn't get it until the second one (that was pretty obvious). And, it's really not good for wreckerators when your Photoshopping was the best looking thing on that cake.

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCybrczch

Oh my gosh! I saw a slipper in the pink thing until somebody said ” adult” and I scrolled back, puppy head tilt, AAAA!!! giggle

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDeborah R.

im pretty sure the 1st one said

"go new england patriots#1!"

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterstella

ha ha ha I thought they were tape worm segments...lol I was like who'd eat a cake with tape worm segments on it. ha ha Fail. Also Dr. Horrible reference FTW!

February 2, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKayla

Buck-toothed snake? YES, actually, that WAS my first guess! LOL Then I thought some idiot might think that's what a hockey stick looks like, THEN I thought "It's not supposed to be a helmet." (Not a question.) But apparently...it...is.
Good. Lord.

}:)

February 2, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSpacegeek Nat

Awesome, love the Dr. Horrible quote at the end!

February 2, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNina

I hope I'm not the only one who noticed the Dr. Horrible reference at the end :P And my guess is that they are football helmets... or wierdly shaped socks.

February 3, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterInvader Scribble

I just laughed so hard my jaw hurts. My husband says that the pink one looks like a patriotic dildo. :D

Maniacal laugh! (No vocal coach required)

February 4, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLizzyBean

They are horses! Well, I wouldn't say that the big piles of french fries with a green snake on them look like horses, but...

By the way, I don't think that football helmets say "nyaa!"

February 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEmma-Karin

Don't slap me, but it looks like a basketball hoop with a penis. Just saying.

February 7, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

I accept the answers: Goose head, slipper, treasure map, sled, faucet, prisoner, drowning man and blue Mario mushroom. But a helmet? Nice try, but you have to get up PRETTY early in the morning to get me to swallow that story.

February 10, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLady Ira Aiden Rydal

No idea what those are supposed to be....
But I did love the Dr. Horrible reference. =D

February 11, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKatie

Is it a sign that I've spent way too many hours reading Cakewrecks that I knew right away that they were supposed to be football helmets? The damage these wreckerators have done to my brain is probably permanent, too.

February 12, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterhjaxon1701

Well, I found this, but it doesn't help to resolve the whole "what is it?" conundrum: http://akcdn.okccdn.com/php/load_okc_image.php/images/1x1/600x600/126x14/404x291/0/5272934136382022408.jpeg

February 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDoug

Ok... I still wasn't entirely sure after going through the post. Twice. Thank you, comments, for helping me (mostly) be sure it is football (hockey?) helmets. I laugh a lot at Cake Wrecks. But I had a couple tears stream from my eye due to laughing so hard at this one. Maybe because it's the 15th Cake Wreck post I've read in a row (trying to catch up!).

February 20, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDawn

The green one looks more like an upside-down goal post with eyes than a football helmet. The yellow ones look like yellow cacti with snakes on top, that also happen to serve as helmets. The mashed potatoes are just a helpless blob, and if you can't decorate a cake better than that, you are a shame to the cake decorating industry. This is why I do not decorate cakes!

March 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLizzie

I think the ones at the top are football ball helmets. Bu the one at the bottom looks like a high heel to me, I have no clue how they mix.

March 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAinspooh

It took me only a few moments looking at the first one until I was utterly *convinced* it was a bad attempt at drawing Sid from Ice Age. Thsen I saw the other ones.

April 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTex

i still think the first one is some kind of weird sock puppet
