Sunday Sweets: Tim Burton Tribute!

We all have a favorite Tim Burton movie, be it Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Beetlejuice, or Alice in Wonderland. (No one's favorite is Planet of the Apes. FACT.) So to gear up for Halloween, let's check out some ghoulishly gorgeous Burton-inspired Sweets.
How about we start with a little visit to Halloweentown?
Made by Making That Cake
The Nightmare Before Christmas characters were originally made from clay, so they're the perfect candidates for fondant!
Made by Celebra
Check out the hand-painted border on the bottom - so cute!
I love this giant Jack Skellington:

That's some talented sculpting!
I really like the abstract character designs on these more traditional cake tiers:

What? No Zero?
These pretty packages are topped with some of the most realistic "fabric" bows I've ever seen:

Ready to go under a Christmas Town tree!
What's this? What's this? There's cuteness in the air!
Uh oh... now I've got THIS stuck in my head.
Look! Lock, Shock, and Barrel!
Submitted by Liz and made by chocmocakes
This cake looks way too amazing to be edible. It's like a prop from the movie!
Moving from one claymation masterpiece to another, let's check out some cakes inspired by The Corpse Bride.
This boned beauty is a replica of the wedding cake in the film:
Photo by BrixtonCat, baker not listed. Anyone know?
The topper is different from the one in the movie, but this one makes me swoooon!
This baker gets bonus points for making two cakes: one for Victor and Emily, the Corpse Bride, and one for Victor and Victoria:
Made by All About Cake
I love those very Burton-esque details, and the fondant toppers are adorable! I'll take them all, please.
I squealed like a little girl when I saw this gorgeous Edward Scissorhands cake:
Made by Christopher Garren's
Every aspect of this cake represents the magic of the film: the ice sculpture, animal topiaries, brightly-colored houses, the hill to Edward's house, and of course... Edward's house!
Absolutely delightful.
Now, for the ghost with the most, for some laughter from the hereafter, for the slave to the grave... Get ready, because IT'S SHOWTIME!
Introducing Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, BEETLEJU....
Maybe I shouldn't.
This goofy ghoul is the spitting image of Beetlejuice's cartoon alter-ego.
And this is from one of my favorite scenes from the movie:
Made by Pixie Dust Cakes
I never would have believe the Beej could look that cute. And check out the busted seams on the couch, and that linoleum "floor"! To die for.
As a life-long Tim Burton fan, I'd be over the moon with any of today's cakes, but this final Burton-inspired beauty is my absolute fav:
Made by LaCaketiere
It's both creepy and whimsical. Creemsical!
Plus, those dingy details really make it look like stone; hard to believe there's soft cake under there!
Take a look at the back:
It only has eyes for you. [smirk]
You can see more detail shots here.
Oh, and in all the research I did for this post, I found NO cakes for Frankenweenie or Mars Attacks! I do believe I've just given you your next mission, bakers. Hop to.
Have a sweet to nominate? Then send it to sundaysweets [at] cakewrecks [dot] com.

The boney cake is cool, and the Beetlejuice cake is hysterical XD
Omg...all these cakes are amazing! i love Tim Burton and The Nightmare Before Christmas is my favorite movie of his...and of all time! I want all those cakes!!
I had to google Planet of the Apes because the 1968 version is my mom's favorite. I thought Tim Burton couldn't have done both (That would make him really old!!) but needed to double check.
Love these cakes, super adorable and Nightmare is one of my faves! Too bad he didn't help direct Coraline, those cakes would be absolutely adorable!
This totally got my day off to an awesome start!
What's this! What's this. I think the link broke.....
These are all amazing...Tim Burton is one of my Gods. My daughter had to do an art project about one of her heroes last year, and she chose him, so she's on the right path already. She's going to bust a vein when she sees these cakes!
I don't know if this counts or not, since he's only the director and not also the writer, but I LOVE Big Fish. Definitely my favorite movie to which his name is attached.
No Pee-Wee Herman's Big Adventure Cakes? I just re-watched it last night for the first time since I was a kid, and I had never known Tim Burton was the director. You can totally see it though in the "scary" scenes, like Large Marge.
These are amazing! I'm definitely saving this site under my favorites and sharing with my friends!
Well, probably not a Sunday Wweet, per se, but there's a bit of Mars Attacks in here: http://betweenthepagesblog.typepad.com/between-the-pages-blog/2011/07/space-the-final-frontier.html
As soon as I saw the "What's this?" in today's post, I immediately got your "What's this?" take-off going through my head.
Dumpa dumpa dumpa dumpa.....
Thanks a lot. :)
Find Santy Claws! Put him in a box! Bury him for a hundred years and then see if he talks!
I think my favorite part of "Nightmare Before Christmas" is Lock, Stock, and Barrel's song. I myself am strange and unusual.
I am IN LOVE with the Nightmare cakes! My bf doesn't believe me that I want a cake like that for my wedding!
Nice! But in the true spirit of Halloween, how about some really scary, red-velvety, bloody cakes for the Sunday after next? Pretty please with a disembodied eye on top???
What, no Sweeney Todd cakes?
Still, these are seriously, fabulously fantastic. I can't even pick a favorite.
And I agree with a previous poster - we need to see Coraline cakes!
no Vincent [Malloy] either?! what gives!
Heh, was going to come say I had the Mars Attacks ambassador on my big scifi cake but I see someone else already cited...although on a different site. Here's the original page: http://kimberlychapman.com/crafts/cakes/2010-feb-alienfilmfestival.html
He's on the lower tier, looking at the Soylent Icing poster, with Alien on his other side.
But maybe a full-on Mars Attacks cake is in order soon...
At least I'm not the only person out there who has your version of the song stuck in their head now. I love the Nightmare and Corpse Bride cakes, esp the one of the different layers all dressed up. I love Sally's layer
So in need of a Tim Burton Marathon Movie Night now! Who's up to joining me in VA? Sounds like an awesome way to spend Halloween.
INCREDIBLE...as huge Tim Burton fan I would love to have ANY of them
Oh these are fantastic!!! After cracking up all week at the wrecks, I always look forward to the sweets!!! :D
Totally Cool - Love them all
It's like your in my head! I was just thinking I'd love to see a Nightmare Before Christmas cake with the abstract character layers! AND, I love that the baker did both couples from The Corpse Bride. (I kind of have my own mini Epcot moment when I see toppers with the corpse bride. He didn't mean to marry her!! Okay, I'm done with that.) Also, that Edward Scissorhands cake is just plain sweet.
What? No Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? I think the Burton one is FAR better than the older (and truer to the novel).
I wanted to point out that the post says "Lock, Shock and Barrel." However it is Lock Stock and Barrel Amazing cakes!
Believe it or not, my husband's favourite film IS the Tim Burton remake of Planet of the Apes....
@Cakelover got to it first, but -- I would LOVE to see some Tim Burton Sweeny Todd sweets. (Or wrecks!)
The cakes are really amazing but all I keep thinking about is all that black frosting and what people's teeth would look like eating it.
"Planet of the Apes" actually is my favorite Tim Burton film. I like it because it's not obvious that it's his movie, and some of my favorite actors are in it without it being obvious that it's them. I also loved the costumes; in fact, I would love the movie for the costumes alone if I didn't also like the story and the cast.
Love these! But no Batman cakes? The 80's Tim Burton version with Jack Nicholson (and Prince!) is my favorite Burton movie.
What! No edward Scissorhands cakes! That's the very best tim Burton movie ever. Hands down
Great cakes! Big Fish would be another Tim Burton movie that would make for some beautiful cakes.
WOW!!!! Um, and WOW!! These cakes are all so amazing; I am dumbstruck and that never happens. Thank you for this post, it is def my favorite EVER! Wow...
This is my fav Sunday Sweats EVER.
I'm running a race two days before Halloween. I know what's going on my iPod mix for it! Nightmare is definitely my favorite movie, but I can't decide on which of the cakes is my favorite!
simply great and amazing and eccentric much like the style burton *w*!!!
LOVE the Corpse Bride cakes with the Victoria toppers! While I loved Emily in the movie, she wasn't actually the one he married, and it's nice to see poor Victoria acknowledged for a change.
I have a total crush on Jack Skellington. He's awesome beyond compare. (dreamy sigh)
BTW, "thanks" for putting the need to see that movie in my head considering the other Jen (aka the snarky one) made me watch The Princess Bride this weekend already!! I was going to watch something Vin Diesel tonight, too.
The link is broken on the video from the older post, though, so I couldn't watch it again. Bummer.
Tim Burton is my FAVORITE. I don't know where I'd be without him... Can you imagine a life without Burton? No... don't even try! The very thought of it is horrible!! =0
Hey, don't be dissin' on my Planet of the Apes! It happens to be a sentimental favorite, seeing as I grew up watching the originals. Love the bathtub.
I'll take an Ed Wood cake, please.
(Although I'm not sure if that would be a Sunday Sweet or a Wreck...)
You have to be hanging out at the POTA Yahoogroups. They'll readily tell you how much they do not like POTA2001. I don't hate it myself, although I prefer the originals.
You must've read my mind, yesterday at work I was daydreaming of a Halloween cake to make and Frankenweenie popped into my head:) Since dog cakes are my favorite I thought it'd be perfect; you might just get your wish.
No Frankenweenie cake? For shame bakers! ;_; Loved Ed's silhouette, so beautfiul.
As one who has never seen the movie..*ducks for cover* I think these cakes are adorable. I have seen Beetlejuice and found that hilarious. I am just behind on Tim Burton movies I guess lol.
What's wrong with 'Planet of the Apes'? It was beautifully realised! I loved the way the apes moved up and down structures as well as along the ground. And those tents... Omigod, I still fantasize about those...
Having said that, 'Charlie & the Chocotate Factory' is probably my fave. :)
I feel a crime has been committed here. How can you reference Tim Burton but not bring up his greatest creation, with the greatest role Michael Keaton ever played? I thoroughly enjoyed many other movies by Tim Burton, but no one before or since has been able to marry the campiness of the original Batman series with the dark undertones of the current day Batman. The man is a genius and there really is no other word for what you've done here except criminal.
I feel like I need to make this rant even more over the top to re-assure you that I have my tongue firmly lodged in my cheek as I type it, but hopefully you will be able to work it out.
Seriously? No Pee-Wee? I just watched Pee-Wee's Big Adventure again yesterday. That would be my favorite... okay, it's also the only one I've seen of any of the movies mentioned. I don't get the creepy-dead-halloweeny stuff.
I had the exact same reaction to the Edward Scissorhands cake. I love them all, but I totes squealed over that one!
Tim Burton FTW!!!
