Sunday Sweets: Transformers

I suppose I should have featured these last weekend to coincide with the movie release, huh? Well, better late than never...
Josh G. sent in this sweet Bumblebee that his girlfriend Lindsay sculpted. Check it out:
And here he is in car form by Cake It Or Leave It:
This amazing Optimus Prime cake is completely fondant free, and yet look at all the detail:
Words fail me - this is too awesome. It was made by artist Dan Zuber.
Here's a neat composition: the cake was for the groom's birthday, in addition to being his groom's cake:

And finally, I'm loving the graphic simplicity of this birthday cake by Cakes by Francesca:
I love the dramatic colors, and she executed the slanted tiers just perfectly. It takes a lot of skill to get a cake that glass-smooth, too, and the corners that sharp. Kudos, Francesca!
Have a Sweet to share? Then send it to me a Sunday Sweets [at] Cake Wrecks [dot] com.

those are the kind that are difficult to cut much less eat. The art involved just boggles the mind.
I love the cute little bride on the groom's cake!
Those cakes are SWEET! lol Hope you're feeling better Jen. :)
I love the sculpted cakes, but it would be nice to see more sheet cakes so I don't feel inadequate for not being that fancy myself.
I don't really have any preferences. I just love them ALL!
Wow, these are wonderful!
Re: 2D Cakes .... yes! I'm not a fondant person or a sculptor, but that Transformer sheet cake is beautiful and achievable for a hobby baker like me.
Hi Jen,
I'd like to see more 2D cakes on Sunday Sweets, please. The artistry and skill of some of the decorators out there is amazing and I especially am impressed by the fondant-free ones! Of course, I LOVE the wonderful 3D cakes, too, but it does seem like the 2D-ers get ignored a bit.
As so many others do, I love Cake Wrecks! Thanks for giggles every day!
I love that first cake. This is an example of airbrushing used for good, not evil.
I could never ever EVER eat one of those! I'd feel like a bad person destroying someone else's art.
Your Sunday Sweets are always great to see. I agree with Spotgirl. Seeing the 2D cakes gives us amateurs inspiration and hope, especially for the non-fondant peeps. :)
Those are AWESOME!!! We are addicted to Transformers in our house. My son and my hubby are gonna go crazy for those.
Hey, wait, I just noticed we never had an Independence Day Sunday Sweets! ...Were there really not any that weren't Wrecks?!
" ...more than meets the eye!"
Wow! Those cakes are awesome! Kathleen
More 2D cakes!
I agree: more 2D cakes. They're all wonderful, but the 3D cakes feel more like sculpture or art, while the 2D ones feel more like cakes. It's a lot easier to go out and find a well-executed sculpture than a well-executed cake, if only 'cause the latter tends to get eaten.
Oooh, I'd love to see more 2d cakes on Sunday Sweets - they can be beautiful!
Ok I can NOT show my almost 5 year old those cakes! Thats what he wants for his birthday cake this year, and um yeah neither his mom nor his sisters are that talented! Ours will look more like a wreck!
I agree that 2D cakes should be featured as well. Normally you post them when you go, this is what this was supposed to look like.
Those are all awesome!!! I'm extremely impressed by the fondant free Optimus Prime. Really amazing. I'm not a fan of fondant, so I love seeing fondant free sweets!
I'd love to see more 2D cakes!

These are all too incredible for words. These decorators are the Michelangelos of cake! Given that, yes, I'd like to see more fantastic cakes that would actually be in the realm of possibility for all of us amateurs. Hope you're all better, Jen...
I like the idea of more 2D cakes featured. They seem more attainable to an amateur kids'-birthday-cake-decorator like myself. :-)
I'd love to see more 2D cakes. The 3D cakes are jawdropping, but working in the confines of a sheetcake can take a lot of talent, too.
Beautiful. I love the last one with the slanted tiers. Reminds me of my wedding cake. How fun

Hey that's Dan's cake! He's my co-worker! His laying down Optimus Prime cake is quite popular at the bakery we work at. He's gonna be so happy to be on your blog! -don buciak

I'm all for more 2D cakes! Sculpted cakes are amazing, but there's not nearly enough love for great "painted" cake art!
I'd like to see more 2D cakes in addition to the 3D awesomeness that have been the staple to Sunday Sweets.
Word Verification: polin;
As in, you are polin folks on whether to include more 2D cakes...
WOW! Those are amazing cakes!
My favorites are definitely no.1,3 and the one made by Francesca! I LOVE THE NAME FRANCESCA!!!!!!! ;)
I would love to see more 2D cakes.
Neat cakes! I'm not a big Transformers fan, but as a kid I used to watch the 80's cartoon all the time.
And I'd also like to see more 2D cakes. I've only had fondant once in my life, a gorgeous wedding cake made by my aunt (who is not a professional) and I really didn't care for the taste of it. Give me good ol' buttercream anytime.
I love this site! And while I also LOVE the amazing 3D cakes, I think it would be very neat to see more good cakes that are 2D!
I prefer the 3D cakes, but I love the 2D ones too! You should do more of those!
Hope you are doing well!
AWESOME!!! I took my 6 year old son to see the movie today! What a coinky-dink (or how ever the hell ya spell it!) The movie was a AMAZING and these wonderful cakes are a great addition! The last one is the best!!! Thanks Jen!
Yeah, 2D cakes can be equally good if not better than the 3D versions. It should be just a matter of beauty, although sculpted CAKE take more talent than sheet CAKE. BUT a person who wrecks a 3D CAKE could pull off a pretty 2D CAKE. Did I just boggle the mind? Look, I made a wave out of the placement of the word cake.
Can we please have some Harry Potter sweets in 2 weeks? please, please, please!
Wow. I love love love the groom's cake. Classic Optimus FTW! XD
Those are all fantastic.
Jen,
I hope you are feeling better! I am assuming that with these cool looking Sunday sweets you are on your way to being 100% again.
Yes, I agree: more 2D sweets! Considering how wrong wreckerators can make 2D cakes, it would be nice to see more of them going right.
WV: bilimp. Look, up in the sky! It's the Goodyear bilimp!
Wow! Thanks for including my cake Jen, I feel honoured :)
Cheers,
Fran (Cakes by Francesca)
I'd love to see more really well done 2-D cakes! That sheet is awesome!
Love the Sunday Sweets! I agree with just about everybody here. It is pretty cool to see a sheet cake done right. I had almost forgotten that they could be done right!
Thanks for including my 2D cake, I'm thrilled to see it here. See more of my work at: http://carmenrosestudio.com/portfolio.htm
And thank you so much!
I would love to see more amazing 2-D cakes!
those are so pretty.
I'd love to see more 2-D greats!
All of those are better than the movies.
My hubby is gonna love this post. Great cakes! I'd love to see more 2D art too. It's something I could attempt to recreate. *laughs*
I think the 2-D cake is actually my favorite of them all!
