What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sporty Spice Cakes

Here at Anything Goes Bakery, we specialize in cakes that have all of the appeal of your favorite sports activities.

Baseball:

It's a mitt, of course. I don't see WHY people keep asking that.

Soccer:

Boxing:

As you can see, our decorators really put their hearts in their work.

Weight lifting:

Competitive...uh...sweeping?

Whatever this is:

And of course, Epcot:

[smirk]

Nicole N., Rachel L., Maryann G., Charlene, Dyanna, & Sarah C., it's almost like I don't know Spaceship Earth when I see it, huh?

Oh my.... uh, does that say "Congratulations, Penis!" on the "Sweeping" cake?

The clean sweep cake has to be curling. At first glance, I thought it said "Go Penis". Why is there an apostrophe in Pens????

The cake for dad is a bowling ball and bowling pin.

Interesting placement of the "you're the best" pin on the bowling pin... even the bowling ball is staring and seems to say to me "wait, no, this wasn't in the job description!!"

Are you SURE that's a soccer cake. I thought it was a spider web...

(PS it won't let me sign in - it is, of course, Ricebubbles)

There is NO way that's a mitt.

I don't understand the soccer (i.e. football!) one. What are those red dots supposed to be?

November 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLilli

Umm, that 'broom' cake looks like it is say 'Go Pxxxs' (male anatomy). Maybe I need to get my eyes checked, but maybe others are reading it like that too?

The 'whatever this is' might be a cricket bat - specifically indoor cricket (yellow balls)...but it's hard to say.

My first thought on seeing the gloves cake was "Dear Strong Bad, how do you type with boxing gloves on?"

November 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJagyularr

The competitive sweeping one kind of looks like it says "Go Penis!" It looks like the dot is there for an "i" but the actually "i" is nowhere to be found.

November 8, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJessica

Did that "broom" cake say penis on it?!

November 8, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPandaCandii

Epcot! Ha, thanks for throwing that one in.

As for the bowling pic, it looks like something different each time I glance at it...spooky.

The last one labeled "epcot" is actually a dreaded cupcake cake that is supposed to be a golf ball sitting on the grass.

November 8, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSteve

I can't remember my one 6 year old comments, but the other is here and thought the catcher's mitts were "golf balls covered in sprinkles," the second cake was a "soccer ball that's curly," the last one was a "really bad golf ball." Her sister thought the golf ball was a flower. And the bowling pin was either a bat or a bottle, depending on the child looking at it.

I agree with the one user who thought the soccer ball looked like an atom or something.

On the Competative sweeping cake... ...is it just me and my dirty mind or does the dodgy piping make the word "Pins" look like "Penis"?

November 9, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterThe Quirky Confectioner

The "sweeping" is actually the Stanley Cup.. notice the years on the top... yeah it took me a while, and the only reason I had any clue is my boyfriend is a huge Pittsburgh Penguin fan...

That "mitt" looks like a kindergarten "hand" turkey that hasn't been colored. It is reason #897 to restrict the use of cupcake cakes unless explicitly making a cake wreck.

Wow, I almost would rather see those plastic ready-made kits(*shiver*)

Uhh...does the fifth one say "Go Penis"? And call me a Harry Potter geek, but I think it would be cool if the broom cake was for quidditch.

November 10, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSexy Sadie

That "Pens" cake combined with the one below it just had me laughing so hard I nearly spit out my latté. I actually read "penis"... OMG... and then looked at the cake underneath that one and... well, my day at work is toast. HAHA.

Go penis?

What an adorably sad bowling ball.

*cough* first time commenter, but the Clean Sweep cake... I...The writing, and correct me if I'm wrong, but on the right side of the cake it *blush* it looks like it says "Yo Pen*s". I'm from Norway and it looked like it said that to me. Very concerning.

Love, Winnie

If I wasn't from Pittsburgh I never would have gotten the "Clean Sweep Go Penis" cake as the Stanley Cup (Go Pens!).

Too funny!

Roma
I think the broom may be about broomball.

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

the "broom"cake i think is suppose to be a cricket bat (a uk and australian sport)

but is it just me or does the word "penis" pop up at the right side of the cake?

How unfortunate
That that "broom" cake says, uh, Pens
The standout wreckage.
