Sunday Sweets: Spooktacular Wedding Cakes

Most of the Halloween-themed wedding cakes I've come across are heavy on skulls and light on charm. So, I wanted to share a few truly spectacular specimens, inspired by - who else? - Tim Burton.
For the Nightmare Before Christmas fans:

And lastly, how cute is this guy?
I think he'd make a perfect wedding favor - that's my excuse for including him in this post, anyway. ;)
Thanks to Amanda C. for the cupcake submission, which was originally uploaded here.

I WANT!!! JAck the Pumpkin King!!!
I used to work for a bakery that does those ghost cupcakes every October. They can be a pain to eat if you don't like fondant. Mmmm, fondant. I need to go get one of those ghost cupcakes.
Wow, that Corpse Bride cake is amazing! If I'd have gotten married around Halloween, and if this movie had been out by then, that's exactly what I would have wanted. Heck, I'm not getting (re)married any time soon, and I STILL want a cake like this.
WOOO HOOOO!!!! I have a cake on Cake Wrecks on the non-wreck day!!!
The Corpse Bride cake is mine :-)
Melissa
The Corpse Bride cake is from a company called Wild Cakes. The website is... www.wildcakes.ca. If you go to the Cake Gallery, then the Wedding cakes its the third one down.
I think i'd quite like the corpse bride one for my wedding. Its too cute....very Wednesday Addams
That ghostly cupcake looks disturbingly like a nose.
I would love to see a Miss Havisham wedding cake from Great Expectations, complete with candy rats and spun-sugar spider webs! (I see there actually are a few examples online, but none capture the full horror I remember when I first read the scene.)
These are so cool. I love the first cake. I kind of wish I had been at that wedding.
Check out the corpse bride and nightmare before christmas cakes at pinkcakebox.com under gallery/ favorite cakes... they are fantastic!
That cupcake is adorable!
I really like that Corpse Bride cake. Disturbingly charming.:o)
LOL! I was just coming to post the Corpse Bride cake was a Wild Cakes!
Whoo Hoo Mel!
Look at you a non-cake wreck!
OK the Corpse Bride cake is stunning.. but SUCH bad luck! The "bride" on the top? is the woman he does NOT marry on the movie! The corpse bride turns in to the butterflies at the end when she finds peace, and he marries his true love, the merchants daughter! So LOVE it, but terrible ju-ju for a real wedding! Not that that is the point of this webiste, the cake is incredible.
Mama Beans, you definitely have a point. I looked around, though, and all the Corpse Bride cakes out there have these toppers. I guess having a Corpse Bride cake sans Corpse Bride would be a bit odd. :) Still, you're right: it's odd to pair Edward with the girl he *doesn't* marry.
Ah, details. They really get in the way sometimes, huh? ;)
Halloween wedding cakes....hmmm. hmmm, I say.

Oh my... I want the Nightmare Before Christmas cake! It is amazing!
The Nightmare Before Christmas Cake and Corpse Bride cakes are sooooooo beautiful (yeah, I'm partial; a huge Tim Burton fan)...what works of art. I look forward to the amazing Sunday cakes *almost* more than I do the gut-busting wrecks!!! : )
I'm glad someone pointed out that the corpse bride topper is terrible for a wedding. Although it would make for an awesome divorce party cake.
Gorgeous Halloween themed cakes. I love Burton's work and to see them done so well in cake form is so lovely.
Martha Stewart Living has ghost cupcakes and a really cool haunted house cake in it this year.
The little ghost cupcake is just BOOtiful.
I love the little ghost cupcake. How hard is that to make?
The Corpse Bride Cake is fantastic!!
What's best about these, in my opinion, is that even if Halloween (or Tim Burton) themes weren't your thing, the bottommost layers are just amazing all on their own.
What a cute cupcake! What's underneath the fondant to give it that shape? And to make the eyes look so hollow?
Ok that's it, the corpse bride cake is going to be my wedding cake.
Love the Nightmare Before Christmas Cake!! And the little ghosty cupcake thing. So nice to see SUCCESSFUL cakes on here!!
Awwwwwwwwwwww....
That cupcake makes my heart sing!
If I got married I'd definitely want the Corpse Bride cake. Beautiful work and it's one of my favorite movies ever. And it's in colors I like too! Major win!
That reminds me of my wedding cake. A neighbor of mine made it (she's not professional), but I loved it so much! I got a lot of "Hmm, how interesting . . ." comments on my wedding day! It's on my blog if anyone wants to see it:

I love the films of Tim Burton but had never considered rendering them in wedding cake form. I'm glad someone did.
As a big fan of both Tim Burton AND cake, this is one of my favorite posts! And wee ghostie is adorable.
I love that you showcase stunning cakes on here as well as the wrecktastic ones.
Oh. My. Gosh. Those are AMAZING! I WANT I WANT I WANT!
Damn my diabetes, lol
I ADORE Tim Burton's work, I'd kill for a cake like those
Sweetly awesome cakes!
Awesome! I love the "Nightmare Before Christmas" cake, and I wasn't even that big of a fan of the movie. The ghost cupcake is great!
OMG... sending that Nightmare Before Christmas cake to my boyfriend! That is one of my favorite movies ever.
I love those!!

So cool!!!!! Wish I was getting married so I could have one for me. I love Halloween and everything it brings with the season... costumes, decorations, crafting, festivals and my current favorite

Oh, can you imagine an Edward Scissorhands cake - all those topiary and ice sculptures? I love these cakes, and the Mario one from a couple of weeks back, but who is their right mind could take a knife to them?
I love the way each layer of the cake is like a separate cake all of its own with that smooth colourful icing and individual themes. It makes me want one, even though I don't like the spooky movie themes.
Thrilled to see a cake from a fellow Brantfordian on the Cake Wrecks site - way to go, Melissa!

Tres chic for the Halloween wedding...
But I checked out the Wild Cake website and how is it the "blue shimmer" cake isn't a real wreck?
Oh my gosh, I love the Corpse Bride cake. It's absolutely beautiful.
And that has got to be the cutest little cupcake I've ever seen ^.^
That ghost cupcake is adorable! It makes me ponder actually celebrating Halloween...
Love this site, but if I want to see "really cool Nightmare Before Christmas," cakes, I could go to any other website. I come here for the wrecks!
These cakes were awesome! If I liked Tim Burton more (I'm still bitter about his Willy Wonka remake) I would totally want these cakes.
After checking out the website for Wild Cakes though...I think the dead crow is a wreck. No way around that one.
Awesome cakes
I watched a Food Network Challenge today and thought of this blog. The challenge was to build a cityscape cake. Seattle, New York, Chicago were a few of the cities. The problem was the overall quality of workmanship was similar to entries here at Cake Wrecks. OK, maybe not quite that bad, but it did have me thinking about this site.

Wow, I always have mixed feelings about halloween cakes... They are so real-like and thus spooky. I wonder will I actually order one for a Halloween Party since it is not very common in Singapore...
The Nightmare Before Christmas cake is astounding. The weight, color, everything is perfectly balanced. Let Them Eat Cake does such good work; I'm consistently amazed by their portfolio. Every time I see their url, though, I read "let the meat cake" and shudder.
Doug
Those are truly fantastic! Amazing.
