What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Now Tell Him About The Twinkie

As many of you know, I am a HUGE Ghostbusters fan, so when Krispy Kreme announced their new donuts this month, I was filled not with the promise of marshmallow fluff filling, but with dread:

I've just seen too much, you guys. The pastry never matches the promo pic.

And sure enough:

"Mother pus bucket...!"

"You're right; no human being would decorate donuts like this."

Thanks to Hal C. over on the Ghostbusters Fans page, and also to Susie F., who'd like to remind us that Dunkin' Donuts really isn't doing any better:

"Ok, who brought the dog?"

"Mother puss bucket" maybe from Ghostbusters, but I can assure you that is also from the Hollows series.

This may be the ONE time edible paper is appropriate...

I know they'll never look like the picture but I know sure they can be way better than that, I saw a review of them and they were much closer: http://dinosaurdracula.com/blog/ghostbusters-donuts/

@jackwire: now that you mention it, in the dimness of dusk and the absence of moonlight, if you squint a little and blink rapidly while moving your head back and forth real fast…maybe a little….good eye….
@Jodee: well…thanks…I think…(I told ya, officer…I’ve been framed….”)….I appreciate your kind comments and your unstalkerish less than 3…. (When Krispy Kreme finally came to this area, people literally lined up for miles and miles, hours and hours before the store even opened, and did that for the first few weeks it was here. The store was located at a very busy and main intersection, and there were police there around the clock trying to sort it all out. Then, suddenly, after a few short years, it just went out of business. We felt betrayed. Once in a while a scout troop or such will have them for sale in a parking lot. I don’t know where they get ‘em and never bought any because I don’t know if they are real or how old they are. I just can’t risk another Krispy Kreme disappointment….)
@Seabird: thank you!
@Starknight: Bravo! Well done, well done! Thank you for posting it, and thanks for playing here!

Now I both want some Krispy Kreme donuts just to see how wrecked they look lol. I wish we had one around here but alas will just have to enjoy the wrecks on here. Dang.

There is still a Krispy Kreme open here, not too far from my house, actually. I remember all the ruckus when it opened, about five years or so ago. As @mel mentioned, people lined up around the block and the wait in the drive-through was about an hour or more. It was INSANE.

I'd never had any but had heard of them, so I was excited to try some. Honestly, except for the hot glazed donuts, which are AWESOME, I think their product is fairly average, similar to the grocery stores' product. When I want a really good donut, I go to a local hole-in-the-wall place called Donut Nook, that has been here for at least forty years. There's a reason why.

Oh, and all the excessive excitement about KK died down fairly quickly, too. Now they're just another donut place, no better no worse than others.

Have the decorators even seen the promotional images they are meant to match? These were actually pretty simple designs. Especially the Jack-o-Lantern. Its three triangles and a squiggle, for goodness sake. Who hasn't seen a Jack-o-Lantern in this country?

@angi: thanks...I appreciate your comment!

This is a lie. The donuts look EXACTLY like the promo photos.

Nice Al reference :)

I hate to be "that person", but...

Krispy Kremes in Japan would never have failed this bad. They would have been awesome and only slightly off from the picture.

:/ Try harder! Try again!

I don't want to knock the peopl who get suck churning these things out for peanuts, but that pumpkin looks like some kind of eldritch horror in doughnut form.

I bought some of the Ghostbusters donuts and they actually looked like they were supposed to look.

Homer Simpson would scream in bloody terror if he saw those "D'oh-nuts" ( and would ate them later).

I am thankful that in Nashville they are SPOT ON. I got the most perfect splatter and staypuft donuts this season and they were DELICIOUS. All of them were, even at 5 in the afternoon! But I have no doubt in my mind there are some fails. I even took a picture of one on my phone because it was 100% perfect pic link http://t.co/bMMqTEkdUI
