What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Tell Me What You Want, What You Really Really Want

Your wish = my command.

"Ok, but I'm adding these decorative scrolly bits to show you what an awesome decorator I am."

"Oh, I'm getting the picture alright." [winkwink]

"Hey, you know those times when you should be seeing red, but instead you feel kinda blue?"

"Yeah, me neither."

"Fortunately for both of us, I don't have to understand your weird code language to follow orders:"

Mine?
Mine?
Mine?

Thanks to Kevin B., Eugene K., Tiffany K., Carrie B., & Melissa O., who, of all my wreckporters, are literally the most recent.

Hey St. Louis!  We'll see you tonight at 7pm!  WOOHOO!!!

Is the "Space Cowboy" in red the guy who was dancing with the lady in red?

Usually, coming in here later in the day, all the good comments are taken and I sigh, wishing I could be just a little more clever. today, I'm just happy there's others who know "Cowboy Bebop!" at least they got sprinkles!

Sharon, these were all cakes made on the same day in 1982. The wreckerators were real old and now they're dead so people are finally sending in the photos or posting them where they'll be found. It's still safe to come in here when you look at it that way. Of course, it's reeeeaaaaallllly creepy to think that so there's a trade off.

You know, even though they ruined it, I liked that idea they had with the cheesecake. Although why you'd ruin a perfectly good cheesecake with red icing I have no idea

@SuBee -- Wow. That was masterfully done (especially by someone in your fragile emotional state...) I salute you.

I can't for the life of me figure out what the heck that last one is trying to say. Just put mine on everything and no one else gets a slice lol. Wow now I really will keep an eye on my bakery just to make sure they don't give me one of those cakes lol.

I have no sympathy for these people. If you have a space on a form to write 'exactly' what you want on the cake and you're stupid enough to write any of these things, you deserve what you get.

I worked in printing and know you have to take every direction literally. For every 1 person who wants a big red 25, there will be 9 nut jobs who want 'a big red 25' written in words.

@~anamorous~, I hope the job went to the first person to spot all the errors, since that shows attention to detail -- very desirable in a caregiver (said the voice of experience in dealing with caregivers for a parent).

Not sure I want to know what 'commutinity interrogation' might be, though. In conjunction with 'RURAL WALKING', sounds like boot camp for 'disable' persons. Yikes!

My 2 year old son is so used to seeing me cracking up at Cake Wrecks, I think he;s starting to get it. When I pulled up todays post, he giggled and pointed, "Cake!" When I scrolled to the next picture, he doubled over laughing, "Another cake!"

Firefly? Cowboy Bebop? Don't get me wrong... I love both of those shows. But I thought the cake was pretty obviously referring to the Steve Miller Band.

This is just so funny! I have just recently found your blog but these are even funnier than the ones that are just not looking how it was intended to look! Awesome collections! From now on I'll be looking at cakes in a different way - too bad Hungarian cakes wouldn't make sense in English! Anyways, thanks for sharing and have fun on your tour!

I thought "Space Cowboy" was a reference to the Clint Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones and Donald Sutherland movie. I have no idea what a Bebop is.

November 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAndrea

@Andrea: Cowboy Bebop is a popular science-fiction anime (Japanese animation) series about a group of bounty hunters ("cowboys") sharing living space on a rusty old spaceship (the Bebop). Very entertaining if you're an SF fan and you like jazz; if not, skip it.

Mine? Mine? Mine? Like the seagulls in Finding Nemo, the ownership is up for grabs!

I thought of this

when I saw the "space cowboy" cake.

@ Craig:

Yes, indeedy~ it was an "iffy" ad, to say the least.
I did, however, take the time to email the publication in regards to these air roars (errors...ha ha).
I wonder if they'll appreciate all the trouble that I went to, trying to point out that Someone- is- not- doing -his- or- her- job -and -by -the- way- could- I -maybe- have- that -job- instead -of- him~or~her? At least I know how to spell integration, which I assume is what they were trying to get at when they came up with interrogation. Then again, who knows what the latest methods of rural walking are these days?
And people wonder why I always keep my doors locked.

~heh~

Great site! Heard of it for a while and just found it!

As funny as these ultra-literal cakes are, the explanation is pretty straightforward. In a lull in my regular employment, I answered a want advert for a cake decorating gig. I had a nice interview with the shop owners and a tour of the place. I saw where I would (theoretically) be working. 1) I'd be on my feet ALL DAY at a space on the work table. I'll tell you, that wouldn't help my concentration or creativity by mid-afternoon. More importantly, 2) I would have been the only white person on the decorating team. A group of happy Chinese ladies chattered away in Chinese while squirting icing. I'd wager any money that they don't read English. They're not reading the instructions on the order form, they're carefully copying the strokes and slashes. (Just like I'd do if I was decorating cakes in Beijing)

So, I'm putting the fault on the people writing up the work orders, not the icing squirters.

You guys came here to St. Louis a mere two days ago and I didn't know?! That's what I get for not reading the blog every day. Shame on me! Now I'm bummed. :(

I gotta say CakeWrecks is awesome!!! :D...Also, my friend Patti and I figured out the "cheesecake saying"...we think the customer asked for ...the word "Mine" on all of the pieces except for 1 that she wants the word "yours" !!! Haaa! :D

November 10, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterlaurie g.

the last one would have been funny if they had wrote it right. I think it was supposed to say 'MINE' on all slices except 1, which was supposed to say 'YOURS'.
