Sunday Sweets: Tim Burton Tribute!
October 16, 2011 We all have a favorite Tim Burton movie, be it Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Beetlejuice, or Alice in Wonderland. (No one's favorite is Planet of the Apes. FACT.) So to gear up for Halloween, let's check out some ghoulishly gorgeous Burton-inspired Sweets.

i checked out the christopher garren's website (sad face: no edward scissorhands cake pictures) but they did have a TO DIE FOR "nightmare before christmas" cake that definitely should have been on this list!!!
(also, it's nice to see you are a TRUE burton fan...as obviously a previous commenter was incorrect because the characters names ARE in face Lock, Shock (not stock, like the common phrase) and Barrel. thank you, that is all.)

Ooooooooooo Tim Burton has been my faveourite director for years, I love all of his films (except planet of the apes) so I loooove these cakes. Thanks so much for doing a Burton post!

Love the Nightmare Before Christmas cakes! I had one for a milestone birthday that my friends made:)
I also noticed no one has mentioned Sleepy Hollow, which is also one of my fave movies and a Tim Burton film.
I hope that for one of the next Sunday sweets there are some horrifically awesome cakes, as I love Halloween and all things creepy!
The Edward Scissorhands cake is beautifully done. I especially love Edward's silhouette.
As a longtime Nightmare fan I'm extremely picky about how stuff looks, and I think the one by Chocmocakes has it down perfectly. Jack's expression is great, Sally's patches are evocative, and the bow on top is "pinstriped" in exactly the way Jack's suit is. Nice job.
(I have a nitpick: The puppets in Nightmare and Corpse Bride weren't made from clay; they were made of steel armatures and wrapped in latex. So none of it was Claymation, but rather stop-motion animation.)

Lovely post, but I'm afraid I must nitpick:
1) Tim Burton conceived and produced The Nightmare Before Christmas, but he did not direct it. Henry Selick (director of Coraline) was the director.
2) TNBC's puppets were not made from clay. They were primarily foam latex along with other materials over articulated metal armatures (Jack Skellington is practically just an armature with a head).
Wellll, the Burton stop-motion characters aren't made of clay - they're all molded foam over incredibly intricate, well-machined metal armatures (you should check out The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Film, the Art, the Vision - I picked up my copy in Disney World in 2009). The fondant aesthetic does work well for them, though.
