What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets For Pirates

Ahoy, Mateys!

Tomorrow is Talk Like a Pirate Day!

You know, like this:

(By Simply Sweets by Honeybee)

So, since every good Sunday Sweets needs a Hook:

(By Ponquecitos And Cakes)

...today we're brushing up on all things pirate! You know, for research.

We're going to need a treasure map:

(By Megan Moran, found here)

A compass:

(By Sweet Somethings by Ashleigh)

A ship to take us there:

(By You've Been Cupcaked)

And some big pirate chests to hold all our booty:

(By Cakelava)

A hat and cutlass would probably be a good idea:

(By Torki's Sugar Art and Cake Design)

...and the parrot is mandatory.

(By The Cake Whisperer)

Plus, what's a pirate ship without a few rats?

(By Artem Doce Cakedesign)

Of course, the treasure is sure to be guarded by something scary:

(By Roses and Bows Cakery)

That snail means business.

Which is why we're bringing our most trusted minion.

(By Vanessa Rodrigez Cake Art)

He's not afraid of snails.

Right, that's it! Now I know we're ready for Talk like a Pirate Day tomorrow.

Arrrrrrrrrrr you?

Just the things needed to cheer me up :D I love the ship cake, the tentacles do not even look threatening :D

OOOOH! It's not allowed to have a crocodile or alligator etc on, in, or near anything Disney any more! You know why!

It looks like the minion couldn't decide whether to be Jack Sparrow (excuse me, *Captain* Jack Sparrow) or Ned Flanders for Halloween, so he combined them. Captain Jack Flanders, anyone?

The last cake looks like a Ned Flander-Minion-Pirate. :-D

September 18, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMafdet

Aaargh... I meant Ned FlanderS...

September 18, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMafdet

I want Minion Captain Jack Sparrow as a Funko Pop now. Very very much.

Awesome! I like the parrot, and the one with the piped waves the best!

That last one slayed me! LOL Love all these cakes except for, well, the rat. Sorry, no can do on the rat.

September 18, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen S

LOVE the parrot. HOW did they get the eye to look like that? Is that made of sugar, or is it a plastic eye?

The thing I find most frustrating about Sunday Sweets is that there are all these amazing cakes, and half the bakeries aren't even on the same continent as I am!

September 18, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterStephanieJ

Aw, I LIKE the rat. He looks like a punked out street hood...in a Charlie Brown style shirt. And a pirate hook hand. And...maybe a rolled, soggy joint he found in the gutter....shall we move along?
=^-.-^=

I think I just squealed with delight at the rat... that is the best! And props should be given to the baker that said, "Why yes, I can take your child's interest in Minions AND the Pirates of the Caribbean and make it into something..." So cute!

So many of these cakes are so cute or gorgeous that I can hardly understand eating them. Let alone, how would some of these even be cut and plated?

September 19, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJay

#9 is clearly a pi-rat ;-)

September 19, 2016 | Unregistered Commentercolleenoz

This just made me pine for a Goonies cake. I mean, wouldn't be awesome to have a cake with One-Eyed Willie on it? Hmmm....or maybe not.
