What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

This Bakery's Baby Shower Display May Actually Give You Nightmares

I thought I'd seen it all, dear minions. Heck, I HAVE seen it all.

Just... not like this:

Either these naked baby dolls came to life overnight and started eating the display cakes, OR - and this is even MORE disturbing - the bakery did this on purpose.

I'm not even creeped out by dolls, you guys - exhibit A-Z right here - but this? With all the icing smears, and those staring dead eyes? (And why - WHY - are they naked?!)

Yep. That's a giant plate o' NOPE, right there.

But wait!

THERE'S MORE:

Apparently this naked demon doll sat in the icing before collapsing, which really brings the ol' "I licked that piece so it's mine now" strategy to a whole new level.

Maybe you didn't notice lil' icing butt, though, because:

It's LOOKING...

right...

AT YOU.

Thanks to Kristen D. for the sweet dreams. And my "sweet dreams" I mean "screaming nightmares." You monster.

These are in my town (Ann Arbor) and are not baby shower cakes. If you could see the whole display, it's an art piece that is showing the Democratic and Republican presidential race. I have more pictures but I'm not sure how to post them here.

Really? I think it's kinda cute. I mean everyone loves babies, right?

Well, there goes my appetite.

Re: Exhibits A-Z
My mother in law's entire house is filled with dolls. This photo could have been taken in her guest room. Or her office. Or her bathroom Imagine seven large rooms (plus three bathrooms) packed with dolls. Dolls staring at you from every surface. When you're sleeping, when you're eating, when you're showering, and whenever you want a little bit of privacy, there's something watching you. I need a drink.
She lives in Florida, Jen. Perhaps you can go visit.

The election is such a mess that I can see how this display relates...

Oh, for ..Of COURSE. I knew it all along. No baby shower I've EVER been to had BABIES on cakes...what a thought! Now, someone run out and bring us back some carrots...get those babies up on their carrots and send them riding out of here! Pronto!
=^-.-^=

@ Lauren Works - I couldn't believe this would actually be welcomed at a baby shower - even a GOTH baby shower, but a "statement' about "politics" in the US. Yeah. I get that. :-)

September 15, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMaryO1230

@Lauren Works: Where is the display in Ann Arbor?

September 15, 2016 | Unregistered Commentermillbrit

I need to know what kind of 'political statement' is being made with these cakes, cuz I don't get it.

No matter what it represents, it's undeniably creepy.

September 15, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKimS

PLEASE tell me this is not now a thing in cake decorating. 'Cause that is just sick and wrong on so many different levels and dimensions. Ug. Someone on drugs thought this up.

I love this. I go to A2 all the time. Is this a bakery by the campus or by the hospital?

Two snaps to the A2 bakery. I knew you'd be bringing the freak!

Wow, what on earth.... O_o

September 15, 2016 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

lauren works,I did some googling but got not a thing..do you know the name of the artist who did the cakes? I want to see the rest of the display maybe it is on their site

September 15, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterlibby

Oh, I don't know. I think it's kind of a cool idea actually.

@SuBee, yeek! I think I'd need to bring booze into the bathroom WITH me! Dolls creep me out. Always have. And, @Sendintheclowns, you put 'em on the carrots, I'll glue on the mohawks!

When looking at the first photo, I only saw the baby at the front. Then I read the caption below it, and at first thought that "dolls" being plural was a typo. Then I rechecked the photo and looked in the shadows. D: *cue look of horror/terror at the extra babies lurking in the dark*

SuBee we must be related! My Aunt & Grandmother live in FL and have a massive doll collection. My daughter is scared to go visit because of all the creepy eyes. or maybe it is just an old lady living in FL thing.

My shower is next month and it's Halloween themed. These would be perfect.

September 15, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterEbby

I love this. Not joking. It's very clever.

September 15, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNancy

Did you notice on the second one that there were actually THREE baby dolls on the cake?

September 15, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNathan R.

I only saw the center baby on the first cake initially, and thought the baby had tumbled down from the top tier...to realize that this was on purpose and there were more...egads!

September 15, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterTwinMom

It's not cake -- it's "art". :) http://www.mikesivak.com/let-them-eat-cake/

September 15, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSharon

Maybe it is a political statement. I've heard Trump described as a "70-year-old toddler." At least they didn't use red icing.

September 15, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNobodee Home

Ohmygod: this made me laugh much harder than it should have. This is totally what I would order for a baby shower with my friends. My friends who also like Stephen King and Tim Burton, I might add. Anyway, this is way funnier and more appropriate than crowning-baby cakes.

September 16, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterGingerSnap

Just got back from vacation to the devil dolls from hell. Now I will have nightmares and need another vacation lol. Thanks for that hehe.

September 16, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

Oh, my gosh! I am laughing so hard! They're like little drunk babies on a playground of cake.

I <3 this so much! They even kind of remind me of the miners ("miners, not minors") from "Galaxy Quest".

Hahahahahahahaha!!

September 16, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterlisadh524

I LOVE these. I want one for my birthday in Nov. And as far a s creepy? Would you think it was cute if they were baby bears? Or puppies? Or kittens? Babies are more adorable than any of those. Well, the majority of babies. Unless it's a polar bear. That would trump them ALL.

September 16, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPatty Underwood

Well, it's obvious to me - when these guys are a little bit older, they will graduate as naked mohawk baby carrot jockeys.

September 16, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterdr handle

www.mikesivak.com/let-them-eat-cake/ That is a pretty cool page. The cakes (although the subject here) are the least interesting part of the exhibition.

September 17, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAlison in Indiana

I was like: Baby baby baby ohhh,
Baby baby baby NOOOO!

September 18, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKismet

It's on Ashley right across from Blimpy Burger. The Art Center has the window on that side of the street (it's actually the west end of their building. Not a bakery at all, alas. The title of the piece is "Qu'ils Mangent de la Brioche". It's thought provoking and weird!

September 19, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterLauren Works

I actually rather liked these cakes. I don't know what sort of event they would be apropriate for, but they are my kind of weird.
