Sunday Sweets Goes Pokémon

Unless you've been living in a Kimmy Schmidt-style bunker the past month, you've probably heard of Pokémon Go. Or you've noticed a lot more people wandering the streets at night, except in a less murder-y, more giggly kind of way.
I'm still resisting the siren call of capturing invisible battle monsters with my phone, but I must admit, my will is weakening. Soon I, too, shall succumb, and we can welcome our invisible (but adorable) battling overlords with these faaaabulous cakes:
(By Bea's Cakes)
I freely admit I know nothing here, but Google as my witness, I'm gonna try to get these names right:
Ivysaur:
(By Lovin Oven Cakery)
Not sure which I like more: this cake (the giant rose! The sprinkles edging!) or that catty death stare. Let's call it a tie. And then back away slowly.
Charmander:
(By Reddit user Bilubul)
I believe this little guy has a flaming tail in the game, so how clever is this?? Plus he's my favorite color. And adorable.
Snorlax:
(By Bake-a-Boo Cakes)
Hang on, there's a Pokémon who sits around napping and eating cake? I THINK I FOUND MY SPIRIT POKÉMON.
MagiKarp:
(By MaxMoschen)
According to the Bloggess this is actually called Dead Fish, and I think she's bang on. But I kind of want to hug him? Or dunk him in water? Or gnaw on his face? Feeling a little conflicted here.
Even we non-Pokémon peeps know Pikachu:
I also spy a little Jiggly Puff, which - FUN FACT! - is also a term you should maybe not be Googling at work. Or around kids. Or without your Safe Search turned on. (Bet that leads to some fun parent/teen conversations.)
Here's an extra squee-worthy Pikachu, plus an Eevee:
(By Miki Suzuki)
SO CUTE.
Players are called Pokémon trainers, btw, and throw Pokéballs (those red and white things) to catch all their invisible creature overlords:
(By My Lil Cakery)
Love the silhouette and forced perspective.
There's also some kind of evolution thing that happens, so that cute little flaming Charmander up there can eventually turn into the vastly more intimidating Charizard:
(By Gina Rouchy)
...in my favorite color combo! Yes!
Here's another cool Bulbasaur, whose rose hasn't opened up yet:
(By Andrea's Cakes)
I guess it's a late bloomer. (Eh? EH??)
(By Baking Obsession)
Hope you guys enjoyed the PokéSweets! Happy Sunday!
Note from john (the hubby of Jen)- I corrected the second name to Ivysaur. However, I also left the Epcot in the comments because every single one of you was polite in correcting me. This is the way the internet should be and I'm consistently proud of you readers for being awesome.

D'awww :D
The first one is an Ivysaur, which is an evolution of a Bulbasaur.
Cool! I love all of these and, coincidentally, I just made a pokéball cake two days ago. The second cake posted isn't Bulbasaur, it's his first evolved form named Ivysaur. ☺
The open rose is Ivysaur.
To be correct, the first cake with the flower is bulbasaur's next stage- ivysaur. I'm am totally not ashamed to be over the age of 35 and admit I know that. But yeah, either go to the large pokemon Wiki (Bulbapedia) or keep safe search on when looking up anything to do with pokemon. There are costumes that can NOT be unseen.
I'm sure about fifty people are gonna beat me to the punch on this, but the Bulbasaur with the rose on its back is called "Ivysaur". Bulbasaur has the green flower bulb on its back, hence the name :)
With that out of the way, I'm seriously digging that pastel pink beauty with the flowers and the Eevee and I absolutely LOVE the fact that one of these Sweets is for someone's 30th birthday.
I am not a Pokemon person either (ditto with my kids) but these were great! I am seriously in love with that cat judging the cake. Or is it his cake and the stare is to get you to leave his cake alone? Can you find a way to pose wrecky cakes and cats together? They would judge those so hard.
I also like the Snorlax cake. First because he definitely is a character I also can relate to. Second, because the style of the cake is the cartoony style you showcased a few weeks ago. I loooooved those.
Finally, the dead fish pic cracked me up because he looks like he's freaking out as he faces the knife which will ultimately end his life.
The second one is actually an Ivysaur, the evolution of Bulbasaur. The rose opening on it's back is significant, and it's a larger pokemon. You did okay otherwise with the names!
These cakes are awesome! One correction: the second cake is actually an Ivysaur.
Second cake is an Ivysaur (Bulbasuar's first evolution) FYI!
Er the one with the rose is the first evolution of bulbasaur (the third has a bloomed rose and either 2nd or 3rd is a bulbasarus). I'll go stand in the corner now....
I'm right there with you: life as aSnorlax, as illustrated, would be my choice. Oooo! Love the cartoony cake with a slice beautifully removed. Ooooo! ( it was worth repeating)
The Charmander is, well, charming. The flaming tail is TOO clever!
Thanks for another Funday.
Cake 1: Pichu, Pikachu, Raichu
Cake 2: Ivysaur
Cake 6: Pikachu, Charmeleon, Jigglypuff, Snorelax, Vulpix, Meowth
Cake 7: ?, Pikachu, Eevee, Sylveon
Cake 11: Dragonair, ?, Pikachu, Pachirisu, Lapras
All I could find today was credit for the Charmander claimed by this Imgur user.
1st one isn't Bulbasaur...it's Ivysaur, the evolved form of Bulbasaur! I want all the cakes!!
That Snorlax cake is basically the best thing I have seen in a while.
Unfortunately, my pedantic side is rearing up, and insisting I let you know that Cake Number 2 is actually an Ivysaur, which is the next form of a Bulbasaur. (Link is to official Pokémon website, shows the difference.)
How cute and beautiful! Love the one with the staring cat.. ;)
Although I am way over the computer game age and never was a fan of computer games, I was intrigued by Pokemon Go, and, believe me, it's fun. Most fun part is to discover places just around your corner you never noticed before. You do now because they are Pokestops. :)
Looks like Charizard has a candle tail too!
Hmmmmmm.....! Looky here, folks! If y'all aren't careful, you just might catch yourselves an EPokemonCOTsaur....=^-.-^= heh heh
Lindsey reports that her cake was made by Lovin Oven Cakery.
@Thor: Thanks, and I can tell you that the one you didn't know is Munchlax.
Awesome cakes today!
By the way, any real poke-maniac will tell you that the correct name for #5 is actually "Magicrap" (although "dead fish" is pretty close, heh), AKA the most useless pokemon ever, with the most useless battle move ever..."splash"...it doesn't do anything!! why why why?!!
Until, through the magic of xp share, that useless little fish...finally evolves... into....A FREAKIN' DRAGON!!! YEEEEEES!!!
With respect to the Blogess, Number 5 is Magicarp. It evolves into a very cool water dragon!
Cake #7 - that's Dedenne on Pikachu's head!
Love the cakes! You did much better with The names than I do. I call them Pikachu, cute frog, flower frog, cute turtle, adorable little doggie, cute blue bearcat, and flyng dragon. My child loves it when I say look at the cute little snake lizard I caught!
I've never heard anybody call Magikarp "dead fish". Unless its Japanese name translates into "dead fish." In the English language version of Pokemon, its name is Magikarp, who evolves into the much more intimidating Gyrados. Also, whoever said Bulbasaur's final evolution is called "Bulbasaurus" is wong. Its third form is called Venusaur, and its rose is fully opened.
I wonder if cake #2 is an Ivysaur...too bad there is no one here that could tell us oh say....500 times! Lolol
Loved these! Thank you for the Pokemon lesson. I'm in NYC and I hear that the little park in our hood is a hot spot. It's been fun to watch.
I love that on the second picture, the cat and the cake have the exact same facial expression.
I like the photobombing cat!!
Amazing so many CW minions know so much about Pokemon. It's evolved (get it?) quite a lot from the cards my son collected 20 years ago. And my vote goes to the cat.
I like them all, but the candle tails on the Charmander and Charizard cakes make them my favorites. The missing nose on Pikachu and no arms on Jigglypuff are kind of creepy. The fondant work on the Suzuki cake is impressive.
You must join us! I just became a trainer two weeks ago -- it is easy and fun! Love the Bloggess's perspective on it too -- her psychiatrist recommends it!
"By the way, any real poke-maniac will tell you that the correct name for #5 is actually "Magicrap" (although "dead fish" is pretty close, heh)"
Magicrap, eh?
But this is Sunday Sweets, no crappy stuff here.
As a fan of Pokèmon since I was ten, I LOVE THEM ALL. I'd seen the Charmander cake before, and it just gets cuter every time. Also cracking up at the cat photobomb XD
Am I alone in thinking the Charmander and Charizard cakes having candles kinda...morbid? Since they die if their flame ever goes out. Otherwise, the craftsmanship is fantastic!
I know nothing about Pokémon (other than, I guess, the yellow guy is Pickachu), so I was mostly baffled by this array of cakes. The funniest part about them was that so many were for adults. That's a riot!
Awwwwwwwwwww
i love that cat.
Eeeee!!! The charmander and charizard cakes look so cool!
Magic Carp does turn into one of the most arsekickin'est Pokemon!!! Gyrados is BADA$$!!! If you like the colors on Charmander and Charizard look up Ponyta and Rapidash they are white horses with fire for their mane and tails.....BEAUTIFUL!!! Ya know for a kids game....my boys forced this knowledge on me.....
