What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Done In A Gif

And now, John's Handy Reaction Gifs.
(You might want to give this post a moment to load)

When I see a date like this on a cake:

When I see bakers trying to write text speak:

When I can't tell if the cake is supposed to be dirty or not:

When someone sends in a picture of a "good" cupcake cake (patoiee!) to try and prove they're not all bad:

And finally, when Jen tries to post a cake she really shouldn't post and I have to stop her:

Thanks to Rich H., Cindi L., Candice B., Haylie E., & Amber J., who I hope appreciate the irony of my posting a cake I've been telling Jen she can't post for at least 6 years now.

The possibly "dirty" cake -- looks like bread (?) ... maybe ? Bread and jam? ... ?

Who are we to judge
What is beauty, what is filth
Only the owl knows

Now I'll listen to Charlie Chaplin and get back to work.

You guys are soo wrong it's right XD XD XD and I agree that the "dirty cake" looks like bread. Those GIF's are too perfect :D

Ewww. All of them...ewww. As if the message wasn't tacky enough, the color selection on the heart shaped cookie (it's a cookie, right?) is truly hideous.
The cupcake cake (ptooie!) is just confusing. Are there arms? Where are the arms? Hands? Is he holding a barbell? How many shields does one already handicapped (seriously, just look and tell me he's not dealing with multiple disabilities) super hero ( I use that term loosely) need?
Yeah, I guess I'm overthinking this.
No thinking necessary: that pastry is naughty. I can't unsee it. Ewww.

Maybe the "Class of 20016" one is for a student graduating from American University, seeing as that's the ZIP code there?

One man's (or woman's) naughty is another man's (or woman's) cinnamon roll! That's all I see, a cinnamon roll that didn't quite have enough room in the pan.
My favorite, since it has more crusty edges!

Captain America really isn't bad. Cut him some slack already.

July 11, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterme

Thank you, no, THANK YOU!!! for not listening to him and finally posting that last one.

"Work makes you free!" I keep telling people someone else said that long before they ever did... Uh huh.

It says clearly on the side, "Elephant ear." The elephant was just rolling around in the mud, that's all. It's just mud dirty.

Someone explain to me why Jen couldn't post that last cake? What is so terrible about it? Will it break the internet?

[Editor's note- Nah, it's just hard to use something like that in a humorous way that won't get us hate mail and won't make people sad. We try to be careful about things like that. Good question, though. -john]

The "dirty" pastry is supposed to be an arlette, I think -- or maybe I just can't get the last episode of the Great British Baking Show out of my head. And Captain America does have arms -- they are the white things with red mitts at the ends. And the "bar" of the barbell is the design on his shirt, just out of proportion. Do a search for a picture of him for comparison.

OH, Lisa. Crusty edges? Now I can't unsee crusty edges...

The owl GIF is a thing of wonder and beauty. Thanks!

Hahahaha!! My son cleaned "clean rooms" years ago. They had a supervisor (boss's nephew I think) who would sit at a deak while they worked and fall aslepp. JB said this guy would jerk awake and yell "Get to work!" over and over again! I LOVE the cake!!

Wow-mazing....Let's see...We have the ironic cake that almost never made it because it is Too Topical, but is nontheless here because ...why? Oh, yes-it's CAKE. (Fancy that, huh? Here? L.o.l.) Subee is "LISTENING" to a silent movie, and...john is trying to pick up pieces of something for crowd control? Damage control? Rioting in the streets? (Please, not in the bakeries! We've already got those covered....Although, maybe a bit of looting while they're at it wouldn't hurt....) A nice sprinkling of shattered glass to add a bit of finesse to those *crusty edges*? And there you go...another beautiful day in the neighborhood...! =^-.-^=(wish I had a thumb to "up".)

Don't be so mean swet-heart! The second cake was made especially for me. The temperature here is OUTTA CONTROL (I think today it is around 400 degrees) and I keep swet-ing profusely! I AM SWET! :( It was decorated in cool colors...the chocolate heart was just a bonus to cheer me up! (it didn't help) STAY SWET Y'ALL!

Lmao I won't even say what that last cake looked like to me. Half of these had me cleaning my glasses to be sure I wasn't seeing things lol.

July 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

To me it also looks less like a dirty cake and more like a flaky pastry with some cherry filling in the roll-up.

My underlings - who refer to me as The Lab Nazi to my face - are suggesting, not very subtly, that I should provide them with cake to celebrate my upcoming *cough-cough* - 0th birthday. I was considering a dinosaur princess cake, but having seen the Charlie Chaplin cake, I'm thinking, put a lab gown on it, and it would convey exactly the message I wish to send...

I feel like that miss animation from Viewtiful Joe

"OW" (echoing death cry)
(Director comes out of nowhere) "Cut Cut Cut!!!"
