What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Friday Favs 3/11

A few of my favorite new submissions this week:

In case you ever wondered what Ron Swanson would look like as a balding muppet:

"You may have thought you heard me say I would like a lot of cake and ice cream. But what I said was, give me ALL THE CAKE AND ICE CREAM YOU HAVE.

"Please and thank you."

Shannon ordered a "red cake with sprinkles" with "Happy 30th Birthday Fred" on it.

And, you know, technically the bakery got a lot of that right:

See the red sprinkles?

Not really sure what's happening here:

I *think* it's supposed to be a skirt/dress, but all I see is an overflowing science fair experiment. You know, like those baking soda volcanoes? Except this one looks more minty. And... hairy.

0.O

You keep doing you, bakers.

And finally, when you ask for a number 3 train cake:

...and get the #1 train wreck:

Cannot. Stop. Laughing.

Thanks to Amy B., Krystine M., Shannon L., Susan H., & Anony M. for getting us off track.

In defense of the Fred/Tinkerbell cake, "sprinkles" does kind of sound like Tinkerbell, right? :) Still not sure why it isn't red though.

I kinda love #4. The doll looks like she's going down a waterfall/water slide. With bubbles. Wheeeee!

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterElisabeth

What?!?! What did you survide?

In any case, I hope Fred had a happy 30db birthday with Tinkerbell.

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAngelaS

I think the one with the doll is supposed to be a little girl taking a bubble bath. If so, though, the tub is overflowing big time!

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJulie

Maybe Fred's cake red velvet? Then is it really a wreck?

I think the troll cake is supposed to be a bubble bath... hairy hair bubble bath

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMiss Paper

Driving that train, high on cocaine...
Well, that explains everything.

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

Actually, Tinkerbell emerging from a purple water lily surrounded by a jungle of tiny hearts and giant flowers, seems as if it may have been related to acid rather than cocaine.

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

I'm thinking the fourth cake is supposed to be an over-flowing bubble bath, maybe?

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMisti

Now we know what the sperm that made Ralph Wiggum looks like.
I think the fourth one has the back-up toilet paper roll underneath it.

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterEoin

Looks like a whole lot of #2 on the train wreck. That is really awful.
And, come on frosting flingers, red cake with sprinkles IS NOT a challenging order. Sprinkles. A child's first cupcake and cookie decorating medium-so simple. And red? A primary color, usually identifiable by pre-schoolers. Why? Why? Why!!!???

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered Commenters.marie

The poop train track is going to make me laugh all day. Has this wreckerator ever ridden on a train, or even crossed a train track?!?

At least the Tinkerbell cake was pretty, if inappropriate. And it had sprinkles!

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

Hee, at first I just saw the first picture of the train cake, and I kept wondering why it was a wreck. I thought maybe a "#3" was a gauge of train or something. I spent a good bit of time before scrolling down and then it made much more sense!

Love love love the Fred cake!! It's a new twist on the classic wreck. I was expecting piping saying "with sprinkles," but the Tinkerbell motif jacks wreckiness up to a whole 'nuther level!

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

I love how the Train Track Wreck disappears either in the sky (or maybe it's over water). Either way, I'd love to know how that works...

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterLoza

I see the troll-doll cake as a little girl in a jacuzzi:

"I want more bubbles!!!"

"But sweetie, it's already turned up to eleven."

"MORE BUBBLES!!!"

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterGary

In defense of Fred's cake, we don't KNOW that it isn't "red cake" under all those purple flowers. I mean, it could be red velvet cake under there. Yeah. That's it. I kept staring at it and didn't see Tinkerbell for a long time. Perfect finishing touch.

Not only are these hilarious, as usual, but my Friday and the beginning of Hell Week here in Austin (aka SXSW) just got infinitely better with your Parks and Rec reference. It's almost a Treat Yo'self level prize.

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMiss Mindy

Thank you for the Parks and Rec reference. That just made my day! XD

And as sorry as I feel for Fred, I would have loved to seen his reaction to getting that cake and the reaction of the person who picked it up! I mean, HOW does that compute?

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterLaura P.

I survided.......I know the spelling is what made it funny, but the semicolon on the bottom does not. For anyone that doesn't know, it's a survivor from an attempted suicide, instead of ending their life, they found the strength to continue on.

[Editor's note- We decided to take it down. It was submitted by the person who ordered it. I assume that, despite the subject matter, the person who submitted it thought it was funny. Either way, we took it down. -john (the hubby of Jen)]

I actually really like the #3 train cake!!

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSuzie D

How has anyone not notice or commented that the Train Track Wreck is, in actuality, also a dreaded cupcake cake as well? Two wrecks for the price of one!

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAuntie J

Uhm...surely the Tinkerbell was supposed to be a different cake. Imagine what little Callie thought when she got a red cake with sprinkles at her Tinkerbell party. I can see the photos now...little 5 year old wearing a purple and green Tink costume, posing with a bright red cake.

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterBooka

Making a number "3" is one of the few times a CCC could actually work out pretty well. Then that last cake happened.

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterkayk

Thank you so much for illustrating When Bubblebaths Go Bad with a crockpot's worth of frosting and marshmallows. Touching public service announcement...

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNaughty Nautilus

OK, I'll accept that the "hairy skirt" cake is supposed to be an overflowing bubble bath, but I want to know WHY the doll has stitches on its cheek.

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterHairfish

Omg, thank you, Jodi..,I did the same thing with the "3" train cake...was thinking "there's nothing wrong with it!", spent a few minutes searching my iPad screen looking for what was wrong...then scrolled...and wish I hadn't..lol

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKim

For the love of God, people! STOP ORDERING CUPCAKE CAKES IN SHAPES!!!!! They never look right.

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKaren the realist

Yeah, I'm thinking that's a fountain of some kind. There's no way a skirt could be that big in proportion to the wea...

*looks up "crinoline" on Wikipedia*

...oh. Could go either way, then!

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNyperold

I thought the dolly one was a bubble bath!

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterElizabeth West

To be fair to the train wreck, it is an evil CCC(Patooie!!!) meaning it was doomed before the decorator even touched it. everything else on the cake is just the icing on the cake. In fact it looks more like a "Kilroy was here" graffiti then anything to do with trains.

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterIsolder74

I'm sure Fred felt like a beautiful princess when he saw his cake.

SuBee, that does explain everything. In fact, when you think about it, that explains a LOT of the cakes shown here.

March 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJane

Hoping Fred enjoyed his princess cake. At least they got the sprinkles on it lol.

March 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

What happened to that "surviveded" cake pic? Lucky me, I saved that one.

March 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSpooky

Too shy to tell Shannon of his Tinkerbell obsession, Fred secretly phoned the bakery to change the order.

So glad to see that Fred is in touch with his feminine side with his Tinkerbell cake. You are right - technically they got it right - but in reality it is a fail. Funny but a fail!

March 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKyle

Am I the only one that thinks the nose on the first cake looks like his private parts?

March 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterTGIF

The number 3 CCC gives new meaning to the term "train wreck" on so many levels. They had one job...

March 13, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterChicago

YUM! Cupcake cake cake with all kinds of icing icing icing... 8-d
