Sunday Sweets In Black & White

It's a Black Tie Affair on Sweets this week!
Formal, dramatic, goes-with-everything - plus there's nothing better than black-and-white for showing off amazing textures:

Like this brush embroidery!
Silhouettes are extra stunning in black and white:

And with lines this perfect, less really IS more.
This looks like a whimsical pop-up book come to life:

Isn't it great? I love the layers!
Although the geek in me wants to see one with a blue phone booth. :D
These lines of handwritten script add a romantic, vintage feel:

Just as romantic, but with extra bold color-blocking:

I like the delicate trim on the top tier, and that string of pearls really softens the look.
Of course we can't talk black and white cakes without including one of the biggest new wedding trends:

Chalkboard cakes!
Such a fun look, and perfect for incorporating a favorite phrase or song lyric.
Check out the darling bunny and fawn silhouettes on this bottom tier:
So sweet! Combined with the dripping floral vines it has a surprisingly light, spring-time feel to it.
You don't see many intricate string work cakes in the U.S. anymore; it's just too fragile and time-consuming, and if you live anywhere with humidity? Fuggitaboutit.
Which is why THIS is so gosh-darn impressive:
(By Geraldine's Creative Cutters)
If you've never seen a baker do string work, mosey on over to Youtube and marvel at the insane amount of time and talent this cake required.
And finally, more string work, plus intricate piping, hand-painting, and pure prettiness:
That lace! That glorious lace! Just stunning.
Happy Sunday, everyone!

Now THAT is real cake art
I kinda love the chalkboard cake!
Love cake #3 and the stringwork cakes!
It had to be a red telephone box -- London telephone boxes are red. Doctor Who's Tardis is a blue police box, not the same thing. Possibly the Rolls-Royce (well enough drawn to be recognisable as a Silver Cloud I) and the equally iconic Routemaster double-decker bus should have been swapped and the bus coloured red, but that's a quibble and maybe symmetry is overrated.
These are gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! But as I look at them I get that yucky taste of black (waaaay too much food coloring) in my mouth. Really pretty , but I don't want to eat them.
Beautiful! And I have no idea what these cakes would taste like but I had to go find some licorice to eat!
These are all lovely, but chalkboard cakes!!!!!!! I'm sure my husband is thankful those weren't a thing when we got married in the dark ages (aka the 80's, time of the "fountain" cake, which I begged for but my hubby nixed and now I'm eternally grateful for his common sense).
Breathtaking...and I want to know how they made every one of these!
How lovely! You know what you have done to me though? No 6 made me immediately imaging a wrecker version!!!!
I love them all. I can't pick a favorite - so give me a fork and step aside cause it's 'bout to get messy!
SQUEE! The bunny!
All beautiful cakes, but that lacework on the last one is unbelievable. The little lace-winged butterfly and dragonfly! Swoon!
You'll have nice purple or green teeth after eating one of those black cakes
Also purple or green poop.
That bunny & fawn cake? Either I'm just old and creaky, but I'm 99.9% sure that's Bambi and Thumper, isn't it? If you look at the silhouettes?
These cakes are purely gorgeous. I don't actually like cake. I know, I know, heresy here at CW. But I never fail to look at the Sunday Sweets; they simply inspire me to try new cakes for various gatherings. And, through CW, I found the MOST AMAZING Baker here in Phoenix, AZ!
My Army roommate was on the Army's Culinary Olympic tran, and she did amazing string work for their competitions.
These are amazing and gorgeous!
