What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: Summer Fun

Summertime is officially here, and what better excuse for an ice cream cake?

(By Patisserie Jaja)

Or a pool party?

(By Short and Sweets)

Better yet, you could throw your own backyard luau:

(By Cake Lava)

Just don't forget the seashell bras and grass skirts:

(By Charlie Cakes)

(SO CUTE. I love the pastels!)

Being a Floridian, though, I'm not so much the outdoorsy type right now; it's too hot!

But I'll gladly SING "Summer" to you, along with Olaf here:

(By Lori's Sweet Cakes)

"Da! Da da da. Da DA da-da da-da..."
And aren't those the sweetest summertime flowers?

I know for most folks summer is all about the beach, though, so here's to the surfers:

(By Mother And Me Creative Cakes)

And to the "laze-on-the-beach-and-watch-the-sunset" ers:

(By cakecentral member rcsen)

And, of course, to the mermaids:

(By How2Cakes)

Because MERMAIDS.

Better yet, here's to itty-bitty mermaids building sand castles in adorable sand pails:

(By Tania Maroco)

Squee!

Well, however you spend your summer, may it be as sweet as a Hula dancer on an ice cream cone on a surfing, sunglasses-wearing sun:

(By Fiorella Balzamo)

Because that's pretty darn Sweet.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Love all the tiki/beach/mermaid cakes! The one with the surfer is amazing and the sunset looks like butter cream wwesh is awesome! But I was kind of looking forward to some pretty patriotic cakes after all the red, white and blue wrecks last week...

You had me at Olaf!

And it's so nice to see a castle where the turrets look like turrets!

OHHhhhh...!! I haven't been to the ocean in years...but these almost brought back the feel, for me! The sand in my teeth (crunch), the water up my nose (ouch), the burn on my skin ("Don't touch me!!"). I MISS ALL OF IT! GREAT Sweets, Jen-especially the sand castle--it looks like real sand!! =^~.~^=

Oh, my goodness, that hand-painted sunset cake - I wouldn't eat it, I would just stare at it forever! *sigh* So beautiful.

I'm always amazed at the artistry in all the Sunday Sweets cakes but the ocean ones blew me away. Doing it right in fondant followed by buttercream. Oh, and I know the 6th cake with ocean and surfer has fondant boulders but my mind insists that the baker used chocolate rocks on the left.

If cake #2 (Splash Zone) was also for an 8th birthday that would be extra sweet!

And here's where I show my age. On the luau cake, I saw that tiki and it reminded me of 'Oliver', the giant tiki in the cave in the Hawaii Brady Bunch episode. Vincent Price lived in the cave and named the tiki.

Lovely - thanks for warming up our southern hemisphere winter a little today!

I love all of the cakes, but the name of the song Olaf sings is called "In Summer". As I have 2 small kids and have been inundated by Frozen, I know these things! :)

Unlike, apparently, Everyone Else, I didn't like the sunset cake. That one, and the one preceding it with the waves look sloppy. I thinks it's even hard for professional bakers to make water out of frosting. Even cake #2 is on the edge. It is better than any of the others, but that gel frosting is tricky (like today's pool cake). I think it would serve them well if they stayed on dry land.
