What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

I live in the Northeast. I don't need no stinkin' groundhog to tell me that we'll have six more weeks of anything. Spring comes when it's good and ready to. I can usually tell it's here by the fireworks. Nice Sweets, team!! Would you please toss me a chocolate pine cone? =^~.~^=

Jen, you're a god. You're not *the* God... I don't think. Anyway, this was perfect.

So cute!

My family is from Punxsutawny, PA and my cousin's son is this year's 2015 Little Mr. Groundhog! He is so excited about this. If you happen to go to Punxsutawny look around at all of the groundhog statues. They are painted in all kinds of designs. Here is a link to some of the statues:

Love the Bill Murray cake!!! He is one of my favorite actors. The radio cakes are all fantastic as well. Nice!

February 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterNicole

I look forward to seeing this blog every day, except Saturdays. Sunday sweets are my favorite, though. I wish I had enough talent just to make a rose. These cakes are amazing.

February 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMarie

Great idea. Thanks CW team.

I think my favorite is the "it's cooooold out there today" cake (or maybe the radio. :)

February 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJane

Love this post! The cakes are spot on.

Like I've said before, it's the wit and creativity that make this blog Cake Wrecks. Just pictures of cake, wrecked or sweet, is called Pinterest.

So Cute

Did anyone else look at the 6th cake and think those pretty white strands were Wolverine scratch marks?

I'd say that I must be watching too much Marvel, but you can never have too much Hugh Jackman.

February 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterKristin O

If he isn't completely snowed in, that groundhog may not be able to unfreeze his feet from the floor of his burrow. And he'll miss all these B-E-A-U-TIFUL cakes!

You've outdone yourselves today, CW team! Thanks for the Sunday beauty coupled with laughs.

;D

Some truly beautiful cakes!

Watched that movie so many times, I know it by heart. One day I had a craft fair in Woodstock, IL and drove onto the town square. There it was, the Town Square. The gazebo, the hotel, the street where Bill stepped in the water filled pot hole! I ran around taking pictures of every special spot I recognized! Your rendition of the radio scene is awesome!

February 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterKristin

*runs to Netflix* Are they streaming this???

Totally awesome Sunday Sweets!!! :-D

I'd like to say a prayer & drink to world peace. And then eat lots of cake. I live in the Pacific Northwet & we'll have six more weeks of SOME kind of moisture. Phil doesn't need to worry his fuzzy little head about telling ME what's coming.

February 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

What an utterly fabulous post. You are so clever.

February 1, 2015 | Unregistered Commenteremcat

I am so going to have to try those shards of sugar "ice" on a cake someday!

February 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterVisionAri

The pink radio cake is definitely British. The Roberts radio it represents was a best seller for many years in the quality end of the market, and became a symbol of the prosperous middle-class, middle-aged way of life -- hence the tea and knitting that accompany it. In fact the machine became so iconic (sorry about that word) that you can buy a replica of it, still made by Roberts, but now with the works of a digital radio.

WOW!

Best. Sunday. Sweets. Ever.

Long time reader but I usually don't post a comment. So, consider this a belated "thank you" for all the laughs you have brought us over the years.

February 1, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterahimsa

Since tomorrow is my wedding anniversary, I'll take all those beautiful cakes as my presents please. Long live Groundhog Day!

February 1, 2015 | Unregistered Commentermegan

The radio cake are unbelievable! I'd like to see a slice of the cut cake to prove it's really a cake and not plastic. How did they do that??

And cakes 9 and 10 are awesome. And the "knitted blankets" are impressive. Oh, heck, all these deserve to be Sunday Sweets. Now where's the tutorial??

February 1, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterjune7

You can tell how much I've been watching Supernatural by the fact that my first thought upon seeing the repeating theme was "Mystery Spot" and the repeating Tuesdays.

February 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

February 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

Haha love it! I need that Bill Murray cake for my next Groundhog Day party!! One of my parties: http://scottandjanessa.blogspot.com/2012/02/groundhog-day-party.html?m=1

February 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJanessa

I could never eat a piece of cake with earwax on it, even if it IS Bill Murray's ear.

February 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBea

That radio and knitting! I refuse to beleive it is cake. It is just way too sweet. I'd be happy to display that in my living room.

February 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterKara

These are all great. I especially like the radio & teacup one.
Although I realize that it is a direct quote from the film promo, the grammar nerd in me just cannot "like" the Bill Murray cake, because it should say, "What if there WERE no tomorrow?"

February 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterTish

I realize I have already commented, but wouldn't it be cool to see a vintage CLOCK radio cake? Also, isn't the last one from "Caddy Shack"? Understandable Bill Murray film confusion.... Ciao!

February 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterTish

Who need's a Tomorrow if I can eat cake and watch "Groundhog Day" today?

February 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBluebonnet

It took me a while to realise that that first picture was not a real radio. That was awesome.

February 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSpiritmuse

I haven't commented in a long time, but this is one of my favorite movies. Last year, I had a birthday 'day' where we ran around all day doing different things (sort of) related to the movie - breakfast pancakes/flapjacks, went to the center of downtown to see Sir Walter Raleigh and sing the groundhog song, goofing off around a playground with a train on it, lunch, museum, dinner, arcade.. . oh god what all did we do? now I have to go back and check my facebook, but it ended with beer and pizza and probably ice cream. I hauled around a stuffed groundhog the whole day and different friends joined us and left again since most of them couldn't stay all day.

Thanks for the great post wording and beautiful cakes.
