His wings are made of rice paper, the body is sculpted of both fondant and modeling chocolate, and the flames are pulled sugar with LEDs inside. WOW.

Stone steps on second hobbit hole cake are cool, but it is surprising that a hobbit (who loves comfort, after all) would not have any stairs leading up to his DOOR.
How did the artist get Smaug up in the air? and what is the inscription? I can make out "fire" and "death" but not the rest. And..., yeah, just WOW.
Amazing! The first and last cakes were my favorite.

Am I the only one who noticed that the first cake, the White City, is ALSO a wedding cake? With a tiny bride & groom (presumably Arwen & Aragorn) on the second level, below the White Tree? So appropriate.

I used to date a guy who spoke Quenya - I bet he'd want the Rivendell cake for a wedding. I, on the other hand, want the Smaug cake. Not to EAT, of course, just - DRAGON! :-D
Am I the only one who gets the willies when someone uses the One Ring as a wedding cake? Yeah, it's lovely, and it's a ring, but . . .
The Smaug sculpture is wonderful, but it has left the idea of cake far behind. There may be a small residual layer of cake under the lava icing, but this is a cake as a dragster is a car.
Those tasty pastries could even made Bombir smile with delight!

Wow. Gorgeous, all of them. I think my current favorite is the Rohan/Gondor wedding cake, but I've changed my mind three times already, so maybe I should just say I love them all. =-)
@TXRed - No, you're not the only one who cringes when people use the One Ring or the writing from it for decorative purposes. I'd definitely shake my head to see it used at a wedding. However, it's possible that these cakes may be for other purposes.
The finish on the One Ring cake (fourth down) is amazing, and reminded me of the time when I was a teenager, babysitting my younger brother, and we happened to look at our Tolkien calendar (we always had a Tolkien calendar) and noticed that it was March 25th, the date the Ring was destroyed. So we decided, on a whim, to dig out my mom's Bundt pan and bake a ring-shaped cake to "destroy" for dessert that night. We didn't have any frosting, so we decided to make some, but we couldn't find any yellow food coloring. After a few failed experiments with lemon juice and yellow Crisco, we actually knocked on the door of our next door neighbor (a cake decorator, coincidentally) and asked if we could borrow some yellow coloring from her, then made a fresh batch of frosting with that. The cake didn't come out anything like the stunning cakes pictured today, of course, but I can at least say it was better than the wrecks here on weekdays. =-)
My mom was a bit taken aback when we greeted her with the cake when she came home - whatever she'd thought we'd be up to that afternoon, that wasn't it - but my Dad (as big a Tolkien fan as I am) thought it was great. This was back before the Internet, when I thought we were the only crazy family that did things like that, or celebrated Bilbo and Frodo's birthday, or noted J. R. R. Tolkien's birthday on our calendars. =-)
Anyway, I'm going to go back to swooning over that White City and that glowing Sting and those adorable round green doors now. Thanks for sharing these!
Holy crap, that Smaug cake is simply...well, breathtaking! I don't know what the client paid for it, but it was worth every penny. Simply AWE-some.
The Elvish cake is gorgeous too, though--the sides are gorgeous. And who doesn't love Rivendell? Too hard to choose, this week.
And can I say: DRAGON! Cool.
These are epic! Especially the dragon cake. Though I'm also partial to the Eowyn/Faramir wedding cake, because they are my favorite couple in all of geekdom.
@TXRed- I actually have a friend who used the One Ring as her wedding ring. On the one hand, I admire her commitment to the fandom, but on the other hand, evil ring of power is not exactly the visible symbol of my marriage that I would pick...

I know this will put me in the minority, but what's the PURPOSE of the Smaug cake? What part do you actually EAT??? Cuz for me, it can look cool & well executed, but at the end of the day there had better BE cake! (and frosting, lots of frosting)

I was wondering if my wedding cake would ever make a miraculous appearance on Cake Wrecks. :D Now I feel internet famous! XD
(PS: For the record, the whole thing, except the White Tree and Arwen and Aragorn, was edible. Lots and lots of white modeling chocolate, heh. And it was delicious -- even the top tier, which we saved in the freezer for a year. I'd recommend Mike's Amazing Cakes to anybody, anytime.)
Oh dear! I loved this post and this tribute and these fabulous creations, but that Elvish cake with the leaves! That's Elvish script, which, while the same as that used on the ring, is definitely not "the One Ring's script" (unless it's actually the same inscription? is it? I can't tell for sure, but it doesn't look like).
Nitpicky? Maybe. But I know my favorite cake geek would care!

The script on the chocolate One Ring cake looks wrong because it's upside down! The inscription is correct, just upside down. I know because my kids can read and write in Tengwar, which is the script used on the ring. Yes, we've officially achieved nerd-dom.
