What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

WANT that ice cream cake! Don't have THAT at Dairy Queen!

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterheloise

I can't get over the painting on the middle tier of that first cake. Goooorrrgeous!

I also love the idea behind the "Frankenstein" cake...when you can't decide what kind of cake you want.

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSaraV

GAH! "Oh wait, that's no moon" you win the Internet for today!

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKatie Fischer

May I safely assume that next week you will dazzle us with the second half of the alphabet?

The jellyfish cake is by Sam from Cakesaurus, Melbourne, made back in 2011. Source:

Love the post that Ice cream cake is adorable ... But koalas are marsupials not bears ;)

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKaz

Loved A and B the most. All of them were wonderful and would be welcomed into my belly.

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMarie

N is for next (and I mean the next book.)
It would be made for kiddies, but I'd take a look

O is for old and that's just where I be,
But an ABC book sounds just perfect to me

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

You had me at "A is for Alice"....

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermel

I liked K best. Just because... kitten.

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered Commenter-Unknown-

I definitely adore the elephant, the Franken-cake, the ice cream sundae AND the jellyfish, what a bizarre combination!!

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterThe Former CB

Now I know my ABC's
I would like a slice now please

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSandy

This was a wonderful post!

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJill B

@pSuBee, what a great idea! A Cake Wrecks children's book. Alphabet would work! Oh, the gifts I could give!

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKnittedbooties

Awwwww :D

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

I love this site - but I have to admit, while the fancy cakes look beautiful, I am not a big fondant fan and they don't look inviting in terms of something to eat. I prefer fluffy frosting, silly frosting roses, and yes, even the frosting carrots being ridden by the baby dolls..... Thanks for all of this great entertainment!

Koalas aren't bears.

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBeth

Britto's art done in cake!! Yay!

A momentous occasion! You technically just praised a cupcake cake!

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAli

Beautiful! But not funny.

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjohnsusan8

Love them all, but Koalas are not bears :( common misconception

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterC Campbell

@Beth & C Campbell... I'm sure Sharyn is aware that Koalas are not actually bears but was simply using their common nick-name (or misnomer, if you insist) of "koala bear" as artistic license to showcase a beautiful cake. Chill. ;)

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMovieMom

Koalas aren't bears. They are marsupials.

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMe

Plants vs Zombies!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle

@Ali, that is not a cupcake cake (patooie!). It is a set of cupcakes decorated similarly. They aren't frosted together. That's the difference.

I would third (or fourth) @SuBee's idea of the alphabet book... though how you decide which ones to use... :)

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLissy

I am now going to ask for a frankencake on my birthday too! I would have learned the alphabet sooner if it was cake!

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

I love that garden cake, especially the butterflies and the other not-so-creepy crawlies!

May 18, 2014 | Unregistered Commenternormajean

I love all these cakes; they are ADORABLE!!! Can't wait for next week to see the end of the alphabet.

May 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKimberley

Currently freaking out over the Harry Potter cake. HEDWIG. SO ADORBZ.

May 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKatie

A rabbit is a lagomorph...

I cannot believe there were people who read
This outstanding post, and then, scratching their head,
Thought: 'I must set this straight, this is simply not right!
'I will go to the comments and with all my might
'I will set matters straight, I'll alleviate cares:
'Never mind the sheer talent - KOALA'S AREN'T BEARS!'

Really, guys? Really??

May 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJoan

I count 9 Dalmatians, but one of them has Snoopy's head! I usually skip the Sunday Sweets because they are not going to give me a morning laugh, but I second the idea of a CW children's alphabet book. However, some other bear cake would have to be used to not undermine zoology education ;-)

May 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAlison

Love the Plants vs. Zombies cupcakes, the "that's no moon", and Hedwig!

May 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRoxy Random

@SuBee ~ I was waiting for that!

May 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

Big PvZ fan here -- so perfectly done, except there are plants fighting plants!

Alison, you are right -- there is a Snoopy head in the Dalmatian litter (I guess Snoopy was a bad dog....)

May 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDee, just Dee

Adorable cakes. I love them all even the squid one and I'm not a fish fan.

May 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara

The figures on the cupcakes (C is for Cupcakes) are from the computer game "Plants vs. Zombies" (which is a great game, by the way). I'd love to have the ice cream cake right now (plus some ice cream!

May 26, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAndrew

I love the Alice cake and the Harry Potter cake!! I love the rhyming! Great post!

P.S I counted 10 Dalmatians
