Princess cakes are not a new trend, but they sure have come a long way from the days of jabbing a Barbie into an overly-iced Bundt cake and callin' 'er good:

Isn't this cake stunning? And maybe it's just the photo, but Tiana looks life-sized! Although, for my daughter to have any idea who I'm talking about, I'd have to call her by her full name: Princess And The Frog.
Do your kids do that with Disney movies too? Her name is not Rapunzel, it's Tangled, silly!

Awwwww. They're all wonderful, but the simple Snow White cake is my favorite.
Disney Channel is showing the 1950 full-length feature cartoon tonight at 8:00 and I'll be watching! And yes, I'm old enough to be your grandma!

Cinderella was my FAVORITE movie when I was a little girl -- when it first came out. In fact, I still have the Cinderella watch I got for Christmas that year. I would love to have that cake!
And after seeing Tiana, I don't think I ever want to look at another Barbie cake again. I have yet to see one this beautiful!

I don't usually comment, just read the posts, but I had to come along to say two things:
I laughed super hard at your tales of the princess name confusion among children

THAT LAST TANGLED CAKE IS PERFECT. I'm not even that into Tangled and I want it for my birthday!
I need that Belle cake. But not to eat, just to look at. :)
I love the Ariel cake! That's so clever, having her tail coming out of the top of the cake. And my daughter always calls Rapunzel "Retangled".
My eldest twin has announced that she wants to grow her already long hair "longer than Rapunzel's". I tell her that in the movie you never see Rapunzel washing it, brushing out the huge tangles and leaves it would acquire from being dragged around, and the neck brace Rapunzel would need because that much hair is HEAVY. But, hey, it's her hair.
(I know whereof I speak. I myself had hair I could sit on until my second year of college. Then I got it cut short--really short--and couldn't believe how light my head felt and how long the shampoo lasted. I've worn it that way ever since.)
@ Maureen~ ("I 'd like to see...slices cut out of it.") I'm pretty sure I have seen at least one cut, right here.They MUST get eaten, of course.Otherwise they may as well be made of Play-Doh. =^-.-^=
Amazing, my favorite is Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip, the most beautiful princess of them all! My favorite of my tiaras is my Aurora tiara I got on our last Disneyland trip, and when we saw her walking the park my husband followed her snapping pics... when I finally got my photo wirh her I cried, yes... I am a princess! I do have to ask where the beautiful Maleficent cake is though, because she is the baddest of all the villains too! I mean, she turns herself into a Dragon with no effort at all! :-)

I would've KILLED for a name like Briar Rose, when I was young! It's such a pretty, and fairly uncommon name, and not one that can be made fun of easily. I wonder why you don't see it very often (or at all)?

My daughter is the opposite, she has to call each princess by her name. Most people don't know who she's talking about when she says Aurora, but she refuses to call her "Sleeping Beauty". She says "That's her MOVIE, not her NAME!"
I love all these cakes! My secret Disney Princess obsession will be revealed when I order one of these cakes for a random Disney marathon with my friends! I think, though, I will stay away from the amazing Sleeping Beauty cake...if it gets wrecked, you just know it will be covered in poo, not briars! Actually, that's the first thing I thought of when I saw that cake: "Huh, they managed to make the brown thorny briars actually LOOK like thorns!" That is quite an accomplishment. -And now you know just how much Cakewrecks has corrupted me! :D
I love all of them. So hard to choose a favorite. The Snow White one is adorable. I'm not sure I'd be able to eat any of them. Oh who am I kidding? Put a piece of cake in front of me and I'll magically make it disappear.
@Kyla: Yes, it IS "clever, having her tail coming out of the top of the cake" ! I only hope that the birthday child doesn't expect the whole mermaid to be IN there! (You KNOW how they can be!)

Ok I actually gave birth to my older daughter during Charles and Di's wedding. Missed the whole thing.
Soooo It obviously follows that said daughter had a prior claim to William. An older woman yes, but we had history.

Disney do some amazing cakes for their weddings, I'm a bit surprised more of them aren't shown during Sunday sweets, I suppose no one submits them :D

Given that the rest of each cake is beautiful, why do both Tiana and Belle have incredibly tooth-pick-like arms? I don't get it, they're otherwise well proportioned.
Oh my goodness these are SPECTACULAR! My favorites are The Little Mermaid cake (so adorable) and the Sleeping Beauty cake (so beautiful!).
And yes, I am a giant Disney Princess nerd.
