What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: Princess Party!

For all the little girls who are in that 'princess stage,' and the big girls who never really grew out of it (I can't be the ONLY one who was positively destined to marry Prince William), and everyone else in between ...

(By Renato Ardovino)

We cordially invite you to a Princess Party!
So slip on your tiaras and glass slippers and and join in! We have cake!

Princess cakes are not a new trend, but they sure have come a long way from the days of jabbing a Barbie into an overly-iced Bundt cake and callin' 'er good:

(Sub'd by Eri R. and made by Bluebird Cakes)

Isn't this cake stunning? And maybe it's just the photo, but Tiana looks life-sized! Although, for my daughter to have any idea who I'm talking about, I'd have to call her by her full name: Princess And The Frog.

Do your kids do that with Disney movies too? Her name is not Rapunzel, it's Tangled, silly!

(Sub'd by Brien F. and made by Kiilani)

And her tower here is incredible. So much great detail. I bet the ivy alone took days.

Merida? Who's that? Her name is Brave!

(By Antonella Di Maria Torte and Design)

And her cake is amazing. I can bearly stand how sweet it is.

There is one exception to the rule: We don't watch Beauty and the Beast at our house, we watch Belle.

(Sub'd by Reagan H. and made by Key Art Studio Cakes)

I mean, how could you take your eyes off her? Although for a little girl with a name like Yasmine, you'd think this cake might look more like ... I don't know ...

(Baker unknown)

I mean, right? Great gold touches on her jewelry. Shining, shimmering, splendid, even.

And what's a princess party without a prince or two?

(Found here with lots more adorable party pics, but the baker isn't listed. Anyone know?)

My favorite detail on this cake: the little tuft of hair curling behind Jasmine's leg!

But you don't always need an actual princess on your cake to get the point across:

(By TuffCookie Cakes)

Snow what I mean?

We wouldn't want to upstage the birthday girl.

(By Peggy Does Cake)

Although this one is a showstopper all on its own. Who knew a swamp scene could be so gosh darn adorable?

But it's YOUR princess party! So make a splash if you want to!

(By Sugar Sweet Cakes & Treats)

OK, cutest Little Mermaid cake EVER. Look at the little ripples! Sacre bleu, even Sebastian's in a good mood!

Or, opt for simple simplicity if you like:

(By Peace Of Cake)

I want, nay, need that Snow White figurine in my life.

And speaking of figurines, I think Sleeping Beauty and Prince Phillip here are not of the edible variety,

(Made by the Disneyland Hotel (Found here on Pinterest))

... but what a gorgeous wedding cake! Who knew thorny briars could be so beautiful? (For Briar Rose, see?)

Well, it's about time to wrap this thing up. Please be responsible as you head home, whether you plan to travel by enchanted pumpkin, sail off on a magic carpet,

(By TatianaK)

... or canoodle in a canoe under a lantern-lit sky.

Thanks so much for coming, and may you live happily ever after til next time!

Psst. Hey. Curious which bakeries in your area have been featured here on Sweets? Then be sure to check our Sunday Sweets Directory!

Awwwww. They're all wonderful, but the simple Snow White cake is my favorite.

Disney Channel is showing the 1950 full-length feature cartoon tonight at 8:00 and I'll be watching! And yes, I'm old enough to be your grandma!

Love the Snow White cake too. I agree with Sharyn; its simplicity is what makes it wonderful.

I guess I need to start saving my money now for that Tangled lantern cake. I know someone who will want that for her sweet 16.

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterRenee

They are all incredible, but I just love the Little Mermaid cake, it is just too cute!

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCaroline B

Wow. I want them all! But I think my daughter would go for the Ariel cake, since it's got "fishies" on it

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJayne

This is a P.S. on the discussion of unusual names; Mercedes, the girls' name came first, then the car was named. Look it up on Wikipedia.

Aaaaaw, how appropriate, it's my daughter's 1st birthday party today... No princess cake for her this year, though... maybe someday

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterLy

Cinderella was my FAVORITE movie when I was a little girl -- when it first came out. In fact, I still have the Cinderella watch I got for Christmas that year. I would love to have that cake!

And after seeing Tiana, I don't think I ever want to look at another Barbie cake again. I have yet to see one this beautiful!

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

Those cake are beautiful - stunning.
How could someone eat one of them. Seriously -- I 'd like to see a Sunday Sweet cake one time that had slices cut out of it. How could they possibly do it?

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen

Awesome job, Lindsey! re. Yasmine/Jasmine, I had the same thought.

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterwoodnwheel

I don't usually comment, just read the posts, but I had to come along to say two things:

I laughed super hard at your tales of the princess name confusion among children
and
THAT LAST TANGLED CAKE IS PERFECT. I'm not even that into Tangled and I want it for my birthday!

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterShivers

I need that Belle cake. But not to eat, just to look at. :)

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJenn

I love the Ariel cake! That's so clever, having her tail coming out of the top of the cake. And my daughter always calls Rapunzel "Retangled".

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKyla

My eldest twin has announced that she wants to grow her already long hair "longer than Rapunzel's". I tell her that in the movie you never see Rapunzel washing it, brushing out the huge tangles and leaves it would acquire from being dragged around, and the neck brace Rapunzel would need because that much hair is HEAVY. But, hey, it's her hair.

(I know whereof I speak. I myself had hair I could sit on until my second year of college. Then I got it cut short--really short--and couldn't believe how light my head felt and how long the shampoo lasted. I've worn it that way ever since.)

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

@ Maureen~ ("I 'd like to see...slices cut out of it.") I'm pretty sure I have seen at least one cut, right here. They MUST get eaten, of course.Otherwise they may as well be made of Play-Doh. =^-.-^=

Amazing, my favorite is Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip, the most beautiful princess of them all! My favorite of my tiaras is my Aurora tiara I got on our last Disneyland trip, and when we saw her walking the park my husband followed her snapping pics... when I finally got my photo wirh her I cried, yes... I am a princess! I do have to ask where the beautiful Maleficent cake is though, because she is the baddest of all the villains too! I mean, she turns herself into a Dragon with no effort at all! :-)

Thanks for posting these beautiful princess cakes! :-)

I would've KILLED for a name like Briar Rose, when I was young! It's such a pretty, and fairly uncommon name, and not one that can be made fun of easily. I wonder why you don't see it very often (or at all)?
--,'-@ (Is that arose upon your nose? No, it's not.)

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

My daughter is the opposite, she has to call each princess by her name. Most people don't know who she's talking about when she says Aurora, but she refuses to call her "Sleeping Beauty". She says "That's her MOVIE, not her NAME!"

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJennifer

I love all these cakes! My secret Disney Princess obsession will be revealed when I order one of these cakes for a random Disney marathon with my friends! I think, though, I will stay away from the amazing Sleeping Beauty cake...if it gets wrecked, you just know it will be covered in poo, not briars! Actually, that's the first thing I thought of when I saw that cake: "Huh, they managed to make the brown thorny briars actually LOOK like thorns!" That is quite an accomplishment. -And now you know just how much Cakewrecks has corrupted me! :D

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterGingerSnap

I love all of them. So hard to choose a favorite. The Snow White one is adorable. I'm not sure I'd be able to eat any of them. Oh who am I kidding? Put a piece of cake in front of me and I'll magically make it disappear.

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara

@Kyla: Yes, it IS "clever, having her tail coming out of the top of the cake" ! I only hope that the birthday child doesn't expect the whole mermaid to be IN there! (You KNOW how they can be!)
"Retangled" (for Rapunzel). <THAT is adorable!
=^~.~^=

Ok I actually gave birth to my older daughter during Charles and Di's wedding. Missed the whole thing.
Soooo It obviously follows that said daughter had a prior claim to William. An older woman yes, but we had history.

Love the Briar Rose Cake...so beautiful.

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterDeborah J

WAIT so you're telling me her name isn't Brave? :) I love the Ariel cake if I was a princess I would totally be a mermaid princess

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterEmily

WHOA WAIT A SECOND the Ariel cake was for a girl named Emily! I'd totally take that cake from her and say it was my birthday

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterEmily

Disney do some amazing cakes for their weddings, I'm a bit surprised more of them aren't shown during Sunday sweets, I suppose no one submits them :D

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBec

i don't know how many times my jaw dropped reading this post, but it was a lot! Love all the gorgeous cakes. Simply stunning!

September 8, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterLaura P.

For all the hilarity of this sight, it is nice to see some actual talented bakers showcased this week. Loved them all. Thank you!

September 9, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterNancy

So sweet and cute and pretty at the same time :D

September 9, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

I still collect Cinderella stuff. And my daughter was always a bigger fan of Prince Harry. Still is. It's the ginger in him.

September 9, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterev

I found the shop that made the cake of Jasmine :) http://catchmyparty.com/profiles/8759

It's Maria Soledad A's cake from what I believe is a shop called Invitar Con Colores in Argentina.

LOVE this site :) Cakewrecks is a daily smile for me!

September 9, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermaroongrad

Shivers - I thought the same thing! If Disney doesn't run out and hire that baker on the spot I don't know what they're thinking - most dolls don't even look that good!

September 9, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterLorien

I NEED the Tangled boat cake as a figurine! It is perfect!!!! ♥ Someone please make this happen =)

September 10, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJenBen

Wow! Would you look at all of that copyright infringement! Disney lawsuits galore!!!!!!!!

September 11, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterEthan

Given that the rest of each cake is beautiful, why do both Tiana and Belle have incredibly tooth-pick-like arms? I don't get it, they're otherwise well proportioned.

September 11, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterShinnewn

Oh my goodness these are SPECTACULAR! My favorites are The Little Mermaid cake (so adorable) and the Sleeping Beauty cake (so beautiful!).
And yes, I am a giant Disney Princess nerd.

September 11, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterEmma

Doesn't Belle's face look like Katniss? Mabye it's just me.
