What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sorry, Mario! Your Cake Wreck Is RIGHT HERE.

When Allison H. sent this inspiration photo to her baker, her baker assured her she could "replicate it exactly."

As it turns out, though, Allison and her baker MAY have different definitions of "replicate" and "exactly."

And that's why you should never do 'shrooms, kids - unless you know how to cover them in fondant.

Oh wow.. what a shame. I really hope the customer didn't buy the poor saggy mushroom cake. Mario would be so sad seeing that. Ah well I just hope if the kid liked it if they took it home.

@ Sharyn - what everyone else said...and this - EPIC! :-) Knocked outta the park!

@ Craig - I'll never tell, neither...:-)

@Whitney - I'm impressed you noticed! As a geeky science person, I always wondered why they picked a deadly mushroom to use in the game. (Actually, I think it's just because the deathcap is so colorful, unlike most mushrooms. And if they are colorful, it's usually to warn would-be predators not to eat them. That way, the species is protected and only a few members are 'sacrificed' in exchange.)

On the plus side that was possibly* the best* use of edible photo paper... assuming that was edible photo paper... still it can't hold a candle to actually artistry on the sides of the first cake

@KarateLady

Why thank you my dear, and yeah, I'm a bio-science geek too XD (hence why many video games I go through the whole 'why the blood *bleep*?'). Your most likely right though, most people don't think about it, and are all like 'OMG, so colorful! Lets eat it! Nomnom-dead' XD. It seems the further and further humans get from nature, the more stupid they are becoming towards it. (I say this because 90% of mushroom poisonings are due to THIS PARTICULAR MUSHROOM!!! Either there's a ton of Mario-fans going out into the wild, or people just like to eat colorful things without understanding color means 'BACK OFF!')

Truthfully they could have used some of the stinkhorn type mushrooms, they can be pretty colorful, but....probably would have come out looking like an 8-bit....-ahem- yeah well, THAT. But Mario in itself has always ALWAYS caused me MANY questions. Questions that haunt me long into the night...

Like, why is a PLUMBER a princess' boyfriend? How the heck did they even meet? Peach's royal toilet stopped royal flushing after a heavy party one night? Why the heck did they even CHOOSE mushrooms? Who is Peach the Princess OF!? The mushroom people? Clearly Bowser LOVES Peach, she even made a baby with him, so WHY does Mario have to keep coming to save her dumb butt? And Bowser always takes these long periods to build all these castles for Mario to run through, so...WHERE THE CRAP is Mario while that's going on!? Is Peach REALLY a princess at all? I mean she certainly has no darn bodygaurds, or even a king or queen parent. Why choose a poisonous mushroom to make Mario get BIG? And did Bowser use one of these mushrooms on Peach so he could make Bowser Jr. with Peach?

Many nights...left to these thoughts....and red eyes @_@

the only thing nice about that second one is the letters, IMHO.

Two words: poison mushroom.

Thank you everyone for the comments. It made the $70 for this cake SO worth it! And to those that asked, yes I named my daughter Zuzu after the character from It's A Wonderful Life. Here's to beautiful cakes! And if they can't be beautiful lets hope they are horrible enough to be featured here!

Seems the only thing the wreckerator did right was include an actual mario game in the sides of the cake (Is that a paper Mario the thousand year door reference I spy? Sorry video game NEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRD) other then that....for petes sake make sure the mushroom is at least shaped properly. Don't half-bake it then go 'sure we'll go with that!

Sorry, Mario. Your real cake is in another castle. But here's a consolation prize!
