What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

The Far Side of Cake, Vol. 3

  Of course, the irony of Phil's phobia was never completely lost on him.

"The inspector listened to the woman's tale with suspicion. Sure, the dame SEEMED to be telling the truth about her husband's death, but he still suspected fowl play."

Thanks to Erin W., Lisa H., & Kimberly P. for allowing my inner Gary Larson to come out and play.

P.S. It's been a few years since I've done these, but here's what I consider Volume 1 and Volume 2.

@SaraCVT:
Oh, my goodness--I was only kidding when I called you a meany!! I have a thick skin & I can take it on the chin! Sure, I'm not "crazy" about spiders, but I've always rescued them w/ glass & a piece of stiff paper~ just because they creep me out doesn't mean they have to die. But I draw the line at inviting them for tea and crumpets. I almost didn't even see this--I'd gone on ahead to tomorrow but something made me come back to yesterday/today(?) =^0.o^= (cue "Twilight Zone" music...!)

@hyphen8: I SAW it! WILD! Seriously, it is beyond *different*...pretty fascinating, actually. I know, I'm perverse, but I HAVE to ignore most warnings-in-my-general-direction, on General Principles. Surely, you know how that is. =^u.u^=

@ whoever asked for Gary Larson comic strips - he retired years ago. :-/ But there's a bunch of books with all his cartoons. :-) You'll also miss Calvin & Hobbs, Bloom County, and you'll get new 'eps' for For Better or Worse but she finished the story line years ago & just fills in the backstory every once in awhile. And there's plenty others gone to that great printing press in the sky. <sigh>

On the spider discussion - yeah, the Hawaiian Happy Face spider is probably the cutest, but if we're looking for one that resembles the first cake, I nominate the 'banana' spider (so-called because it has a long abdomen giving it sort of a banana shape). It's a pretty good size - a 2-inch long body & up to 4-5 inches long & wide if you count the legs. It's also colorful, coming in yellow or red. It's also not poisonous to humans (or at least not deadly so) and makes beautiful intricate orb webs that can be 2-3 FEET across. :-) Spiders really don't scare me; scorpions do cuz they can have a nasty sting & are waaay larger than spiders. I honestly don't know how people go about living in the desert like Arizona & New Mexico. I here about people getting stung...two stings will paralyze you & can kill small children. Spider bites, even poisonous ones, are unlikely to kill you unless you have a severe allergy to the venom. You can freak out over spiders all you want, but I'll be watching for the 'scorps'. They like moisture & dark places, which means sweaty shoes and steamy shower stalls. A friend of mine found one during her shower...nothing left of it but a big brown splotch on the shower floor after she let him/her have it with the dust pan several times...course now I'll have scorps in my dreams tonight...especially after watching all those Merlin reruns...
