Sunday Sweets: Foodie Treats

Today we're celebrating one of my all-time favorite things: FOOD. Well, and some drinks. Made of cake. Sound good?
So, what'll you have to start? Maybe some coffee?
We serve it up proper here, with extra whip cream, a dusting of cocoa, and some biscotti for soaking. Would you like one slice, or two?
Or maybe hot tea is more your style:

And here at Sunday Sweets, you get to eat the hand-painted teacups!
(Yep, those are entirely edible!)
Of course, it is a bit warm out for hot drinks, so maybe an ice-cold soda would be better:
Submitted by Tina S. and made by The Flour Garden
And by "ice-cold," I mean "surrounded by sugar glass." Because both the bottles and ice are sugar. Which is still pretty cool, right?
Or, for the ultimate summer "drink":
By Gateaux Inc.
ICE CREAM SUNDAE. Awww yeeeeah.
And you're probably getting tired of hearing me say this, but that's all edible. Spoon, glass, and all! Plus the ice cream is actually cake, which is really messing with my mind.
Now let's talk actual meals: what's your favorite?
Breakfast?

Nothing here is what it seems. Even the waffles are cake. It's like the Matrix of baked goods, which is kind of freaking me out. But in a good way.
Or maybe you're more of a lunch fan:

I love - LOVE - cartoony food cakes. Can't get enough of 'em. Just look at those perfect egg slices! And the rolls of sliced ham!
We're about to dive back into the Matrix baker for dinner, though, with this ultra-realistic steak and potatoes platter:
Submitted by Jackie P. and made by The White Flower Cake Shoppe
You know how fancy steakhouses are always so dimly lit you can barely see the food on your plate? I want to sneak in one of those and swap out someone's dinner order with this cake version. Srsly, someone get this on a candid camera show, STAT.
I'm not much of a steak-and-potatoes gal, though, so my dinners out tend to look more like this:

Well, minus the spicy peppers, anyway. I think I'm the only person out there who loves curry and noodles and all the related culinary goodies - but can't tolerate even a teensy tiny bit of heat. I'm a total wimp. I'm pretty sure I could handle THAT pepper, though. :D
Oh, but wait: I forgot about elevensies!
I admit it: when it comes to food - and, ok, also height - I'm totally part Hobbit. I'm also wondering if the PB&J cake sandwiches in there are made with actual peanut butter and jelly, because I bet that would taste pretty awesome.
I've got to include a cake for all you health nuts out there, though - even though the concept IS kind of ironic:

Eat all my veggies? Noooo problem.
Here's a riddle for you: If you made a cake donut out of cake, then is it still a donut? Kind of?
Submitted by Brien F. and made by Deviant Art User ~Kiilani
I only ask because those giant donuts are made of carrot cake.
Ow. My brain.
Speaking of which, I guess it's pretty obvious what I've usually got on the brain:
By Avalon Cakes
It's like a self portrait, only more accurate.
I'll leave you with my favorite kind of food cake, though: a cartoony cake cake:
Doesn't this look like what you'd find in Minnie Mouse's kitchen? Just look at that pouring cream! And the little pink-and-lime scale! And all the puffy little hearts! Ack! ADORBZ OVERLOAD.
So... who's hungry?

Nice work but the list seems incomplete without any additions by DebbieDoesCakes!
Wow. Wow. Wow. I am especially impressed with the sheen on the green peppers in the health food cake! Who can get a shine like that out of fondant? And then donut cakes...they even showed the hole where the "jelly filling" went into the donut. What amazing attention to detail!
OMG those are awesome-I once saw an article that showed you how to make a chocolate icecream cake with pound cake fries XD love the one with the food on the woman's head lol
"Here's a riddle for you: If you made a cake donut out of cake, then is it still a donut? Kind of?"
--------
Well, of course it is (and not even "kind of")!! The SHAPE is the important thing. Circle=donut/doughnut. (That's why you know without asking what "doing doughnuts" in a car is!)
=^~.~^=
Just to let you know you're not alone, I can't stand anything hot/spicy either. If we go to Taco Bell, I have to ask for my burritos with no sauce at all, because Taco Bell's MILD sauce is too spicy for me. :P
But yes, that's probably the only chile pepper I could stand to eat. :D

WOW!! I've been following Cake Wrecks (silently) since July of 2008 - the race car. I laughed so hard my face hurt. Since then I have continued to laugh, say "eeewww...", be astonished, be amazed, be thrilled and impressed and very, very entertained. Thank you for that! Today's post was amazing and when I saw the tea cups - all I can say is WOW. How are some of these things even possible?? Thank you again and keep on keepin on.
Staring... Tea cups...
These cakes are truly amazing. I gotta say, though, that eating something that so convincingly looks like something else (sweet yummy cake that looks like bloody meat) would really mess with my head!

Aaah, my hobbit sister! I am with you in requesting very mild food in Indian restaurants . . . and giving away most of the peppers from my CSA shares . . . which look much like that last cake. Thanks for Sunday treats!
Sooooooo... the cake is a lie?
You are NOT "the only person out there who loves curry and noodles and all the related culinary goodies - but can't tolerate even a teensy tiny bit of heat" Me too!!!
"...those giant donuts are made of carrot cake."
~~~~~~~~~~
Yum!!!! But please bear(claw)with me, because I have a (possibly silly) question: in the 11th photo down, how can we tell that those things are "giant" without something next to them, for perspective? I mean, the box itself could be small, for all we know.(Does that make sense, or am I just nuts?) Oh--and please tell me that the cardboard box is real, because if THAT's cake (or fondant), too, I'll short-circuit or something!!
=^O.0^=
My favorites are the Coke bottles!! They look so absolutely GLASSY!! Is it like lollipop stuff? And they even look FROSTY--how did they do THAT? Astounding!! =^O.O^=
I made a PBJ cake for one of my students a few years ago!
The bread is cake, with real peanut butter and grape jelly in between.
Today is national Ice Cream Day, so how fitting you have an ice cream cake today. But those tea cups--seriously, I would have afternoon tea every day if I could have it like that!
How about the browned, curling pages of the book in that last one? Wow.
http://images.wikia.com/tardis/images/4/45/Clara_as_Montague.jpgThe woman that has the food on her head really looks like Clara from Doctor Who.
Here's a link. I'm not sure how to give a real link so you'll have to copy and paste. Sorry.
Er... If I saw a cake box that referred to "whip cream" rather than "whipped cream," I'd have sent it to you as a silly and iggerunt error.
And I'd have expected to see it turn up in a set of suggestive mistakes, since there are very few NON-naughty meanings I can imagine for "whip cream."
(Okay, okay, so it would probably just be a perfectly innocent product you rubbed into your whip to keep it soft and...flexible.... No, wait, that's not helping.)
I'm in the middle of a local Biggest Loser competition, and our weekly challenge was who could eat the most veggies. If I ate that veggie cake, I wonder if I'd win? I'd choke down the asparagus from the steak cake, too. It's important to eat yer veggies. ;-)
Jen, I've been training really, really hard for a charity 5K. Coming to CW each day is like flirting with food temptation . . . and now doubly so! Now I crave cake AND ice cream AND ham sandwiches AND pink-and-lime scales AND brunettes.
By the way, CW Team, you are dearly, deeply loved. Thank you for making this part of the internet so friendly, so sweet, so funny.
That last cake is fabulous - even just the top by itself with the faux cake stand and cartoony cake is amazing but with everything else it's perfect. Thank you for this lovely round up.
Wimp. But I do agree about today's cakes. They're so awesome, I can't choose a favorite. I just want someone to get me one. I've got a fork ready!
Wow, those are all amazing! I really love the second to last one, too! I'm with you on that, Jen-- it must be a portrait of me! Thanks for making my Sunday sweet, as always!
re: #2
Wow! Now THAT'S a CupCake Cake!!!
Awesome cakes. Just one little thing... no plate for the waffles on the breakfast cake. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't usually eat my waffles directly off the table.
I'd swear that breakfast one was made in honor of someone who LOVES Waffle House. The plate rim is even their china pattern, and if I ever saw SCATTERED, those are. But there has to be coffee, even if you're not going to drink it.
rachel
Oh my god that breakfast one! And I love curry and noodles and hate heat, too. Vermont curry is my savior.
That noodle bowl is Vietnamese Pho, yum yum!! I used to work for Mister Donut and our baker would hand-cut shaped cakes out of cake donut dough (as opposed to yeast-raised), fry them, and we would frost them with tips and bags like regular cakes. One of our girls made THE best rainbow trout cake/donut by striping the inside of the bag, so, yes, cakes can be donuts and donuts can be cake! Yum again!
Just so you know for your snippet about the coffee in the very first one, it's frothed (steamed) milk not whipped cream. You're thinking of those fancy tall crazy drinks, this one's a cup of cappuccino! Unless you meant they used whipped cream on the cake version?
Yikes. Cakes are really getting to be too much. So glad I'm out of this crazy "who can top this" baking. I guess it's actually not baking - I can't imagine eating most of this stuff. But these people are incredibly talented artisans; gotta give 'em that!
I just want to watch while someone is putting together a cake like the last one. I marvel at how well it's assembled, let alone hiw beautifully it's decorated!
Those teacups are RIDICULOUSLY lifelike. I still seriously doubt they're cake; they're so dainty!
But why are there tiny dead fishies on the lunch sandwich cake???????
How - HOW - does one log on to this site, view this page, and then comment on grammar? Or different types of coffee? Or lack of platage? Or perspective, for heaven's sake??
Big picture, people. Big picture. THESE CAKES = AWESOME.
That is all.
Sabs stole my comment! :-) Although, it needs a tweak - it's an image of my 12-yr old self, when I had my chocolate birthday. Yep, chocolate cake with fudge icing, with chocolate milk to drink and rocky road ice cream on the side...I didn't eat chocolate again for *months*...and I think my friends did the same. Boy, were we SICK!!!
PS to Haiku Joy - good luck with your training! BTW, what was that comment about craving...brunettes?! Does Mr. Haiku know? Or maybe he's brunette? ;-)
Jaw-dropping amazingness!!! It's all so crazy life-like, I don't think I'd have the heart to eat any of them, or I'd at least expect them to not taste like cake. Especially love that second to last cake with its gravity-defying sweets on the brain. Just plain WOW!
You are not the only one who can't stand heat! I love Japanese Curry Rice but have to get it majorly mild, since I am what is known as a "nekojita" or "cat tongue." Or "white girl tongue" as I call it. :P
I LOVE flavor but can't deal with heat. A dash of Frank's Red Hot is about as much as I enjoy. And honestly, if it's too hot to taste anything, what's the point??
I love Love LOVE the beautiful tea cups!
I only have one quibble; If you were serving tea in such lovely cups, you would not be brewing the tea directly in the cups! You would use a teapot. And you would probably use loose tea, not tea bags.
:)
What we need for this kind of post is a photo of somebody cutting into and EATING these crazy life-life cakes!!! Just to prove they're cake. :)
I have to apologize in advance because I *know* this is an "internet" moment for me, but you hit on one of my few "absolutely can't help but correct it' points: it's "elevenses", not "elevensies". It's not actually a cutesy name.
That said, those teacups are incredible! And as an excuse to the mentions that you would brew the tea in a pot--I don't see one, so I'm assuming it's a gorgeous set of cups that the user found tucked away in a little shop somewhere, and maybe they're brewing the tea directly into milk or everybody wants a different kind. Maybe it's a tea tasting party! There, now there's a backstory. :.)
Imagine this.
Mom: Vegetable time! *sets crate of vegetables in front of kid*
Kid: Aww! Really?
Mom: No, just kidding. It's dessert! *gets knife and cuts into cake*
Kid: YAAAY!
Eating any of those would sooo mess with my mind. Let's see, I claim the Breakfast cake!
YumYumYumYumYumYumYumYum, SNACK TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
