Sunday Sweets: April Bridal Showers

Excuse me! Attention, everyone!
I'd like to make a toast to my best friend, the beautiful bride-to-be.
She may have kissed a lot of frogs in the past...
... but she eventually found Mr. Right, and we were so thrilled when he hopped...
er, popped the question!
They've set a date.
The invitations have been sent.
They've taken their engagement pictures in a field of plumeria and it was the cutest darn thing I've ever seen:
Barefeet! So cute.
She's ordered her flowers ...
... and her dress is already hanging in the closet, awaiting her big day ...

Now, there's only one thing left to do:
Partaaaay!
Yep, it's bridal shower time!
So sit back and relax, my dear, and enjoy the following bridal shower cakes to mark the occasion. (And I promise I won't do any whining about how bridal shower cakes these days are, like, fifty times awesomer than my wedding cake ever was.)
Holy carp, like this one!
Just beautiful. The muted colors are so lovely, it's like looking at a dream. A dream that you can eat! And how about those silhouette figures? Love them.
And speaking of silhouette dreams,
... here's another couple finding love in a two-dimensional place.
I just need to point out that this bridal shower cake appears to be twice the size of my wedding cake, but I'm totally not whining. I swear.
And I'm not seething with resentment over this adorable little Stitch and Angel cake topper, either.
I mean, I didn't have a cake topper on my bridal shower cake, but oh my goodness, she's wearing a shrug! And little pearl earrings!
And here is another canoodling cake couple so cute I can bearly stand it.
By Julia Hardy, design by Debbie Brown
Haha, they are totally playing footsie. Pawsie?
But we can save the twosomes toppers for later, because today is all about YOU, girlfriend.
That's why we got you this "Wedding Day Survival" kit, filled with all the essentials you may need on the big day. PS: It's filled with cake. What else is there, am I right?
Now, at first glance, this cake might not look like a bridal shower cake, but look again!
It totally represents your wide circle of friends.
Or that your single life is circling the drain.
Or the circle of life.
You pick.
Anyway, I truly hope your day is perfect, right down to every last itty-bitty embossed, embroidered and mind-blowingly-hand-beaded detail.
Congratulations on your big day! Cheers!

At first I couldn't believe the last one was cake!!!
Ohmygoodness, that polka dot "circle of friends" cake is incredible. I love those colors, and the design, and, and, and.
Also, this was such a fun post for me because my brother and his fiancee are getting married on Saturday!
Great Googly-moogly! That circle cake is awesome!
How in the world did they get those circle so perfect? I am amazed at the amount of detail needed for something like that.
All of the others are great as well but that one is just fantastic in its presentation!
The last cake....the DETAIL!!!! I saw the picture of the happy couple the first time looking, then I noticed they painted the reflection of the bouquet in the mirror!
*boggles*
Love love love today's Sweets. Thanks Lindsey!
Aww the little bears. Who are they? And Stitch and Angel are so cute. The wardrobe one is something else!
Jeez, those wedding dress cakes are more detailed than my actual wedding dress! These are incredible, especially that last one -- didn't notice the detail of the bouquet painted in the mirror until I read Sara V's comment, and then HAD to go back and look. O.0
I am totally in love with the last cake. Totally. I would travel to the states and beg her to make my wedding cake even though I am already married, just to have that cake.
So that coppery rocket ship decoration on the Lilo and Angel cake?
I want one to paste on every flat surface in my house.
I wouldn't want to be whoever cuts that last one
I'm blown away with the last cake. I have to wonder if they used a small piece of Mylar to make the mirror though. Even the shadow from the flowers is in the mirror and I don't think you could anticipate that if it was painted.
Love the teddy bears on the couch.
Explanation on the last cake from Rosebud Cakes site: "On this one, the cake is under the roses and is the dress as well. The armoire is non-edible decorated with white choc & butter cream. The roses, present, pillow & shoes and Armoire things are all white choc. To achieve presentations like this, we usually combine edible & non- edible elements."
I made a "wedding Survival kit" for my brother's wife for their wedding, but it was a gift wrapped shoe box with needle, thread the color of her wedding dress and other things like that. There is no way I could make a cake as beautiful as the one shown here. Any of my cake attempts would end up in the "wreck" section M-F, not on a Sunday Sweet.
The two silhouettes are my favorite. The black-and-white one is so adorable!
The last one is amazing and, also, terrifying, if I try to think of that as JUST THE BRIDAL SHOWER CAKE in relation to what must have been a humongo-insane wedding.
All I can say is ooooo so pretty :D
These cakes are all amazing, but the last cake is completely breathtaking! Not only am I jealous that my wedding cake was nowhere as awesome as these bridal shower cakes are, but I'm looking at the dress on the last cake and wishing it had been available for me to wear on my wedding day. Wrong decade though...not quite the style in '81.
The Stitch and Angel cake reduced me to incoherent babbling with its amazing cuteness. And I recovered just in time to be able to utter, "HOLY. MOLY." at the last one.
*envious sigh*
That is all.
I really love the black and white silhouette cake next week you should do a cupcake Sunday Sweets
The circle cake is actually a ring cake. Some of the rings are engagement rings (see, there are adjacent polka dots which are the stone in the ring) and some of them are wedding rings (simple bands). Every finger size represented!
I love the second to last circle cake! So cool, even without the flower.
BTW if I had to pick a silhouette cake, it would be hard. The color one is nice but that b/w is my favorite. It has a retro feel to it. Cute!
Wow. Just wow.
These are wonderful, amazing, dazzling, more work than my wedding cake, incredible! Add eye-popping, too.
The black silhouette cake makes me think of the Jetson's girl; maybe she's finally grown up?
Thanks for the eye-candy!
I think the dress in the last cake would be gorgeous "life-sized."
The cakes are beautiful! The one that has the clouds looks like floating poop :( I love, love, love the circle cake!
Holy carp?
Oh my word that last one! I've been reading Sunday Sweets long enough that I've seen some pretty impressive cakes but the details on that one are crazy wonderful! How do you even balance that stuff ON TOP OF FLOWERS? Wow.
I immediately recognized the silhouette in white as the cover illustration from a book in the Little House on the Prairie series...one of the later books... Those two were meant to be Laura and Alfonzo Wilder when they were courting. I loved those books as a kid. Awesome cake :)
simply amazing stuff.
I have never been so floored that a cake was really a cake as I am over that last cake. Mind=blown.
(sigh) I didn't get to have a Hen Night before my Trek wedding, because I was sewing our outfits down to the last minute (Seriously; I was sewing my veil in the car on the way to Vegas!) Mind you, most of my friends are gay men, so we'd have gone to a drag show instead of Chippendales (they don't let men in-- how RUDE!), but damn. Maybe I'll make them take out for a five years-belated one, because I feel left out. :(
Your Pal,
Storm
Is the purse girl's name JARN?
I know these cakes are beautiful...and they are, really...but the circle one? It may be flawless, but it still reminds me of the Windows screensaver with the floating circles in pretty much the same colors as the cake. And when I see that screensaver, I see different colored condoms. So when I see that cake, I see the condom screen saver.
And that kinda ruined the cake for me.
Disney fan, the bears are the Forever Friends bears and they have been around on greetings cards etc in the UK for decades :-)
My favourite here has to be the first silhouette closely followed by the first wedding gown - oh, and the purse is gorgeous! So honoured for my cake to have been featured - thanks Cake Wrecks! Julia x
