ParaNorman! I've heard it's really good, if a bit scarier than most people expected. I love the faded, spooky style on the lettering - reminds me of watercolors sprinkled with salt. Such a cool look!
My jaw dropped when I first saw this FrankenWeenie cake:

I'm pretty sure that's not Photoshop, either; the baker just did the entire cake in gray-scale! The contrast with the lime green interior is STUNNING, don't you think? Now I want to see more black-and-white cakes with brightly colored insides - ooh, or maybe rainbow swirls?
Ok, ok, how about this: a Wizard of Oz cake, before the movie goes color - eh? And on the inside, rainbow swirls and maybe two feet sticking out wearing the Ruby Slippers. SOMEONE GET ON THIS IMMEDIATELY.

This is Claptrap from the video games Borderlands and Borderlands 2, aka John and our friend Missy's Favorite Game Of All Time. Claptrap is hilarious, from what I've overheard while John plays, and he apparently really likes to dance. (Claptrap, that is. Although John is also quite entertaining when "Dancing Queen" comes on.)

I saw ParaNorman a few weeks ago and liked it a lot. I don't think it was too scary, but I do wish there'd been more ghosts (that's all I'll say and hopefully when you watch it, you'll see what I mean :-) ).

Oh my god. I need those hobbit cupcakes. Except I could never bring myself to eat them and then I would just leave them on the table until the dog got wise to them an ate like half the plate and then threw then back up around the house while I yelled "I AM SO SORRY GANDALF WHHHYYY!"
So it's probably better that I will not get to have any Hobbit cupcakes anytime soon.

I have been surrounding myself with sweet stuff all weekend. Including too many doughnuts, but I'm being gentle with myself about that. This was a wonderful addition to kitten & laughing baby videos, playing Animal Crossing, and happy John Prine songs. Thanks!
If Claptrap is part of your childhood memories, I'm going to wonder just what sort of parents you had. The Borderlands series (which I also enjoy) is not exactly kiddie material.
Those Hobbit cupcakes are adorbs. But I don't know how I'd feel about dissecting and eating ET...

I have to say... the Monster's Inc. cake is just a tad off... they didn't get Mike's horns on his head ;)
But, my 14 year old went pretty crazy over those Hobbit cupcakes! Great selections this week!
For Halloween one year, my niece went as Dorothy from the first part of the movie. Her mom made the dress from gray gingham, her make-up was done with the black & white sepia style, and she dyed her hair dark. She looked amazing!
My kids love CL4P-TP.
Not as much as me though!
And, yesyesyes! Watch Paranorman. It was robbed of Best Animated Film at the Oscars. It's just an amazing movie with some really great messages dropped in. Especially at the end. No giving it away, but the end made my husband and I's jaw drop and were were totally impressed.
These are all so amazing. I love the Animal cake, the Muppets was one of the best shows ever. :)
I've totally done the Wizard of Oz one, though as cupcakes rather than a full cake. Check it out!

Hah! You made me remember something funny with your Wizard of Oz reference. Years ago I worked in a video rental/sales store and a special edition of the video of the Wizard of Oz came out to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the film.
I personally had to deal with a customer who , having picked up her pre-ordered VHS copy (yeah, I'm old), promptly brought it back demanding an exchange because her copy was 'defective'. Her complaint? The first few minutes of the movie were, in her words, "In black and white". She was livid, rude, and LOUD.
No amount of patient and courteous explaining that the sepia toned footage at the beginning of the film was intentional (and that she would not find ANY copy that did not include this) was sufficient. She eventually got her refund and hit the road. Everyone in the store laughed for days over it.
I love gray scale cakes with bright interiors. One of the first really awesome cakes I saw was a simple round layer cake with a gray scale rainbow on the top with white clouds. It was kind of depressing, until the cake was cut and the rainbow was inside it. I should have made one to celebrate April showers. Maybe next year!

I absolutely have to know what flavor the Frankenweenie cake was. Like, was it just food coloring, or was it like, lime flavored? (yum!)
Okay, this is weird, but I thought of this as soon as I saw the Frankenweenie cake. I used to read a magazine called American Girl, and once they had a recipe in there for a cake for a Wizard of Oz party. It was black and white on the outside, with rainbow layers on the inside. I was a little weirded out when I read what you wrote about a Wizard of Oz cake. It was like you were reading my thoughts. o.0
Can't believe I was able to identify all 13 dwarves! I want that for my birthday!

That American Girl issue Tiffany mentioned? I read it! And that was one of my birthday parties!! It involved a cake with rainbow layers (one layer per color) frosted in white. I think we used black gel icing to draw a tornado on it. It was awesome. (There was also "melted witch" punch. And we made adorable baskets, and tissue paper poppies, and had a scarecrow stuffing contest. ...and now I understand why I want to have theme parties all the time!) Pictures exist... somewhere in the real world, I think... (It was like 15 years ago? We hadn't gone digital yet.)
The Brave cake is really cute... EXCEPT Merida's face is creeping me out! That is NOT how she looked in the movie! What is wrong with her eyes?
As awesome as all these cakes are (and they are) my favorite bit is that the Animal cake is spelled the way Animal would say it. Er, scream it.

To save you from the inevitable wrath of die-hard Tolkein fans, I have to tell you that there is only ONE hobbit in that awesome set of cupcakes. One hobbit, one wizard, and thirteen dwarves (who would probably be offended at being called hobbits).
FYI...Those are dwarfs. Not hobbits. Just sayin...
@MaryA--I think by "Hobbit-themed" they meant characters from the book The Hobbit, not hobbits specifically.
I don't know how you could cut into the Up cake, much less eat it. But the FrankenWeenie cake is probably my favorite of all of these. Now I really want a cake that's black and white on the outside and colorful on the inside.
The Sunday sweet cakes are great. Just one nit-pick, as pointed out by Melissa they forgot Mike's ears/horns on the Monsters Inc cake.

...uhh... In the origional book, they were silver... Did the movie erase ALL memories of the book or are cakes simply a lot funner to base off of movies?

The ET cake kind of creeped me out O_O I haven't seen E.T. since I was, like, three or four or soemthing close to that! Amazing beautiful cakes. AMAZE :d
Love these! One question though - in cake # 3, did anyone else notice Po has his chopsticks upside down? He's eating with the butts.
Also like the idea of the grayscale cake that is coloured inside, and flavoured to match the colour.
