What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

What's Wrong With This Picture?

Murphy wanted one of the Avengers on his birthday cake. I'll give you two guesses which one:

"By Grabthar's hammer, by the suns of Warvan, YOU SHALL BE AVENGED."

To be fair, it's not like the character's name was written right on that big piece of plastic or anyth...

 OH COME ON.

Well, look on the bright side, Murphy: now you've got a cool new nickname, and your Iron Man cake probably would have looked like this anyway:

Thanks to Molly P. and Deborah for letting me work in a good Galaxy Quest quote. Never give up! Never surrender! Can you form some sort of rudimentary lathe?

Well now I want bacon. I saw that second cake and all I could think of was yum bacon strips lol. As for the first cake.. really could they not try any harder? Or did they figure no one knew the difference between Thor and Iron Man? Lol.

@Carrie: Is there a superhero who holds an iron? Yes--Elmo as "Iron Man" on Sesame Street.

Dang. All the Galaxy Quest jokes I was going to make have been made already. LOVE that movie!

*snerk* I just watched Thor, Iron Man 2, AND Galaxy Quest in the past week. (nerd much?) This post is GREAT!!

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned Murphy's Law. You know, the one that says if anything can go wrong, it will? No wonder his cake was messed up! Poor Murphy - nothing's gonna go right for him... *ever*.

Awww, KarateLady, it's never too late to be opinionated! Sometimes I write comments on posts a year old or older, even. It amuses me to think of strewing little haikus throughout the older posts, like Easter eggs. Okay, maybe rotten Easter eggs . .

@Haiku Joy - Well, it's like what Monica said - all the good GQ jokes were taken! Then I thought I had one - Lady Cassandra from Doctor Who, but I goofed & posted it to yesterday's post as well as this one. I sent an email request to remove it and, in the mean time, realized that ScaperMomma had already noted the Lady Cassandra resemblance. Thankfully, John(thoj) was able to delete both posts & save me some *major* embarrassment. (Thanks, John(thoj)!). I *finally* remembered Murphy's law, which led to my more recent post above...whew!

And, *yes*, I have noticed your new haikus on some old posts! They are excellent Easter eggs & most definitely not rotten! :-)

Oh, great! Now I have another excuse to peruse old posts. I can look for newly added Haikus!

Hey Jen! That last cake is in Wreck the Halls! You're so lazy, reusing wrecks. WHO DOES THAT!?!?!?!?! Tsk, tsk.

For 2012, my New Year's resolution was actually to go through all the Cake Wrecks posts and to add a haiku to any post that lacked one. I think I added about 30-50 new haiku before I started forgetting to keep at it. No formal resolution this year, but if I think people are looking out for haiku, then I have more motivation for adding them.

@Daisy... It's STILL a wreck... Although the wreckerator wasn't too bad with the lettering.
