What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

I've Got Some Good News, and I've Got Some BAD News...

The good news is it's your birthday, and you get cake!

 .............

The plan was considered a success, until Dylan's parents remembered the four-year-old still hadn't learned to read.

Thanks to Anony M. for putting every horrible birthday ever into perspective.

This is the ultimate definition of cheap. Want to commemorate your child's birthday and your dog's death, but don't want to shell out the money for TWO whole cakes? Then just put your deceased pet's image ON your child's cake, and viola!

What a way to wreck a kids birthday..man that would make me depressed and not eat the cake. Won't blame wreckerators on this one considering the person probably ordered it this way. Hope the kid doesn't have nightmares on their birthday.

Is it possible that this cake was made before the dog died? Then with the dog dying they decided to put rip on it? I mean I would have binned the cake, but maybe they thought they were making it better not worse....

You never know, the kid might have asked for it.

Um, OK, so yeah, my family is a bit strange and might seem morbid to others....

@FluffyCow--that's funny, because I had been thinking of one of my favorite moments from "Little Miss Sunshine": "And where is your grandpa now?"
"He's in the trunk of the car."

Poor Peanut, poor Dylan, poor judgment.

(But not poor us WreckReaders--we have the brilliant Sharyn and others to brighten our days.)

This explains why I always found Dylan so moody. Wait...wrong Dylan.

The iridescent green... the yellow spots above the eyes -- is Dylan's surname Baskerville by chance? Just wondering.

2-fer-1 cake. Nothing wrong w/saving a little $$.
Probably seemed like a good idea at the time...

I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation. I insist there's a reasonable explanation. I am not, however, suggesting we ever need know it. ;)

@Craig- that's not a hound but good try.

I'm going to be charitable ( what on earth is WRONG with me??) and guess that Peanut was a former pet, and the picture on the cake is of a NEW dog for Dylan who's been saying "Whennn can I have puppy, Mama? Whennn? Whennnn?"

"Yes! That's her picture on the cake, Sweetie, isn't it? Dylan, darling, if you feed her any more cake she's going to - -damn it, where are the paper towels? DYLAN! Bad Dylan! Pooor puppy, you have a tummy ache -- towels! Towels! Paper Towels! Now!" &s/o

Where can we donate to little Dylan's therapy fund?

Kinda reminds me of how my mom broke the news of his pet's passing to my brother. He told me that out of the blue, he received a letter from her. (He was away @ college & it was the dog he'd had since he was a boy.) It was a long, chatty letter telling him how much she missed her boy & what his sisters were doing, etc., and at the end... "Oh, by the way, Sparky died. Just thought you should know. Love, Mom".

My brother wasn't crushed, but he didn't think too much of Mom's delivery method, either.

It must run in the family. My sister once tried to get out of returning for a beloved stuffed animal by offering to buy a new one - and it was my kid she did that to w/out consulting me first! (I drove back for the original "stuffy" the next day.) For years after that my daughter remembered & resented her aunt's ploy to buy her off! (No, I didn't encourage it - my daughter remembered w/no help from me whatsoever.)

I just can't decide which is a worse combination. Dead pet/birthday or wedding/new baby? Hm. It's so tough to decide!

Nothing like giving your child a cake with a picture of their dead pet on it.
I imagine the parents saying something along the lines of,
"Eat up Dylan. :D Peanut's gone, and after cake, he'll be gone all over again!"
Poor Dylan. :(
