Grad Tidings of Great "Oy!"
June 6, 2012 Graduation season is ramping up, and you know what that means: time to brush up on the proper spellings of "congratulations," "graduation," and that perennial head-scratcher: "yay."

Just when you thought you'd skipped all the hard words...
I'm not sure why bakers insist on mashing up the words "congratulations" and "graduation," but eventually you've seen so many crazy combinations that even this starts to look right:

This made me cackle for a solid fifteen seconds. Then I had to type it out, and that made me snorfle for another twenty:
"Cogngrtaualtons Wicssaset Gardautes"
(I looked it up, and there's a Wiscasset in Maine - meaning all three words are misspelled. OPA!!)
Still, no matter how butchered your graduation cake may be, just remember: the "tossel" is ALWAYS worth the "hostle."
And that laugh was totally worth the $27.99.
Assuming someone else paid.

I would assume that the cake made for a graduation in Wiscasset was made in Wiscasset which makes you wonder why they can't even spell the name of the town they live/work in! How did they even GET to the bakery??

Isn't anyone else wondering about the enormous display of fruit on Katie's cake? I kept staring at those little red ones with the stems. They really look like little tomatoes to me, although I've finally come to the conclusion that they must be glazed strawberries. And the big bunch of green grapes. Green grapes really go well with chocolate icing. Looks like they couldn't decide between one of those fruit covered custard pies (I can't remember what they are called) or chocolate cake, so they went with both. Or maybe they asked for fruitcake.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but on the graduation episode of Glee (the last one, maybe?) there was a banner hanging in the hallway of the school which read "Congradulations!" Cakewrecks-influenced, maybe? I am bad at online, otherwise I'd try to get a screenshot. It's very subtle, passing in the background.
Oh my goodness! I graduated from Wiscasset High School last year.....I have been following this blog for quite a while and am surprised to see a cake from my graduating class! This is hilarious, now I want to find out who got this cake.....
I had to show this post to my mother... she taught high school English for 37 years. Now she's sitting in the corner of her closet, rocking back and forth and humming Kumbaya.

@SaraCVT I think ALL these decorators were saying "neener-neener" in their own special ways.
(grumbling) But @Craig (if that is your real name & not fiction) I love that song "Do the Hustle." It's the only one where I never get the words wrong. (well, that and "Love to Love you Baby" by Donna Summer)

Wow. There is so much going on in these wrecks that no one else seemed to notice that the numbers are out of order on the PRE-K cake. Or maybe they skipped that lesson in class.
Anyway I'm so excited that we got TWO songs from sharyn today. Both were excellent.
Wow. It's just like snowflakes. No two congratulations are misspelled alike.

"Katie"'s cake was GORGEOUS before they wrote on it...I would have been so disappointed!
With the spelling on these cakes it makes one wonder how on earth these wreckerators got out of school to begin with. Lol man I would laugh hysterically at the third cake then cry if I had to pay for it. Honestly is it too much to ask for them to try and spell anything correctly? My brain has just about exploded right now.
There is a long history of this, at least back to the 1800's:
Owl licked the end of his pencil, and wondered how to spell “birthday.”

Thanks for addressing one of my pet peeves. How hard is "Yay"? For the record, "Yeah" is what people who can't be bothered to correctly pronounce "Yes" say.

OK, on cake #4 - I can understand that one might misspell Congratulations and Graduates. Let's face it, those are toughies. But presuming this is for kids in Wiscassat, is it just too much to think the local baker would know how to properly spell the town he/she lives in, or at least lives near?? I guess I'm just expecting too much.
I went to Wiscasset High School so this is especially funny for me.

Forgive me for being cynnical, but I just canNOT believe that there are this many complete imbeciles in this world. I mean, I know there are a LOT. Lots and lots! But some cakes I see on here are so unbelievably bad, it makes me wonder if bakers aren't doing some of these on purpose just to get on Cakewrecks. I mean, they are not being identified on the site, so there's no harm to them, their business or their reputations.
I could be very wrong and will continue to laugh my butt off at the wrecks because, accidental or not, they are still sadly hilarious!

Oh, and...when I saw the title of this, I heard Timon say the "Oy!" part (in my head, of course). Ya' know...Timon...the meerkat...from The Lion King? THAT Timon? Partially cuz he's the last one I've heard say the word "Oy!" before I read this, and partially cuz I actually have a little crush on him...yup, I just said that!
Cake #4... Wow! I seriously nearly lost all bladder control. *hahahaha, sigh*
The weirdest thing about "Cogngrtaualtons Wicssaset Gardautes" is it's a perfect anagram for "Congratulations Wiscasset Graduates" (if you change one 'g' for an 'i', all but one letter are there). I definitely agree it is possibly one of the most astounding wrecks around.
