Sunday Sweets: Robot Rock

Robots are awesome.
Well, most of them, I mean. Obviously the Terminator/War of the Worlds/Furby models need to be killed with fire, but the REST are pretty dang cool. Cuddly, even.
No, seriously! C'mon, tell me you don't want to snuggle with K-9 here:
How adorable is he?! I just want to take him home and introduce him to my cats. After all, if they thought the Roomba was great...
Of course, some robots can be a bit more....debonair. Right, R2?
[beep boop WOOO-AAAH!]
That's droid for, "Check me out in my bow tie, ladies!"
Hey, kids, do you know what time it is?
That's right:
It's PRIME TIME!!
Submitted by Paula D. and made by The Bunny Baker
I guess technically Optimus is a kind of alien robot, but let's not get distracted from how amazing he looks on that cake stand. (Er, the stand made of cake, that is.) Every detail is just stunning.
Oh, and you can tell this isn't the movie version of Optimus Prime because he's not surrounded by a giant exploding fireball. Heh. Aheh. Heh.
When Doctor Who fans marry:

"CEL-E-BRATE."
I like how the cake uses the same gold studs as the Daleks - very geek chic.
Ah, but I can almost hear some of you complaining that the Daleks themselves are not cake.
Not to worry: Big Daddy Dalek is IN DA HOUSE:
By Stacked Cakes (process pics at the link)
This killer specimen is over two feet tall, and his head can rotate from side to side. WOW. (I'd be terrified, but there's a little step up to my office. So, you know, I'm safe.)
When Androids go green:
By Mike Terry, photo found here.
In case the little cake in his hand didn't give it away, this guy is a wedding cake. And check out how his head is balancing on that tiny post: that is some impressive cake engineering!
Btw, you know your mascot is adorable when your competitor's customers have toy versions of it on their desks. Just sayin'. (Although mine's yellow, not green.)
And while we're talking robot wedding cakes, you guys have GOT to see this one:
Submitted by Gina F. and made by A Cake to Remember
Hang on a sec while I wrap my brain around this:
It's a cake robot...with a cake cake in his lap... SITTING ON A CAKE.
Ok. Yeah.
That is awesome.
When Robots Meet the Robinsons:
Submitted by Julie B. and made by Jean S. of Cakes With Character
I admit it: I just made myself giggle with that joke. Mostly because now I'm imagining the Robot and the T-rex trying to play patty cake.
[imagining]
BWUAH-HA-HA-HAAAA!!
Here's another shot of him:
Plus, I'd say the only danger here is that I might start gnawing on one of those slinky arms.
And speaking of slinky arms, I keep seeing this adorable robot all over, so I finally Googled him to find out his name:
Turns out this is Plex from the show Yo Gabba Gabba. Which I'm pretty sure all you moms out there already knew. And since he's from a kids' show, I'm now going to be forced to go investigate what kind of Plex toys are out there. (You know, 'cuz my Android toy is lonely.)
Has anyone else noticed that Doctor Who has all the best robots? K-9, Daleks, and - oh yeah - CYBERMEN:
By Truly Scrumptious Designer Cakes
I've actually featured this cake once before, but the photo I had then was tiny and not the best clarity. This time, I managed to find a great close-up shot:
Just look at all that detail! And this guy is also pretty massive - I think over two feet tall. Wouldn't you love to see him next to the Big Daddy Dalek?
Ok, let's wrap things up with what is arguably the cutest robot in the whole galaxy:
WaaaAAAaall-E!
Now, I've seen a lot of amazing Wall-E cakes, but the added details of the boot planter and Wall-E's pet bug make this one of the BEST Wall-E cakes I've ever seen. It's Awwww-Mazing!
I did my best to find cakes of every famous robot I know, but I couldn't find any for Rosey from the Jetsons, Metropolis, Atlas and P-body, or the Horizons robots from Disney - and I've already posted a personality core (ala Wheatley) from Portal. So, if you know of any robot cakes I missed - or have any other nominations for Sweets - then please send them to me at Sunday Sweets [at] Cake Wrecks [dot] com!

But daleks aren't robots! They're tanks with little alien squid things in them!
(Apologies if this turns into the latest Epcot.)
[Editor's note- Good call. But really, what would a robot post be without Daleks? -john]
Technically, Cybermen & Daleks aren't robots, but that K-9 cake is awesome & I'd give my right arm for that on my birthday
Luvin the Daleks!!!
Aww the robot on the c ake holding a cake is so sweet
These are AWESOME! PS. John the hubby of/Jen? May I make a suggestion for a future post? OK, so it's take your kid to work day, and the joke is that the bakers have "kindly" let their children "help" make the cake, which is why the words are mispeled/sl o ppy, the decorations have poor spatialawareness, and everything is a blob.
[Editor's note- Hmmmm. So the questions is, do I use your idea and credit you all noble like OR do I delete your comment so that everyone will think I'm the genius who thought of it in the first place? Thanks for the great idea! -john]
I hate to ruin your day - but daleks can elevate. I'm so, so sorry.
[Editor's note- Well, technically, if you believe the new series writers, they can. However, the original Daleks couldn't. (shaking virtual cane) I DON'T LIKE THESE NEWFANGLED DALEK WHIPPERSNAPPERS! AND GET OFF MY LAWN! -john]
Clearly you have not seen the more recent (9th-11th doctor) Doctor Who. The Daleks are fully capable of levitating up lots of stairs and killing you with crazy lasers. Your one step is no problem for the Daleks. EXTERMINATE!
[Editor's note- ...killing you with crazy "LASERS." FTFY. -john]
don't forget the robot from Short Circuit (#5?). I wonder if he's out there somewhere in cake cyberspace...
The making of the R2D2 cake!! http://youtu.be/Pqtc2t3ul8A
Love the cakes! Yes I am a mom & am a fan of "Yo Gabba Gabba". Weird show but amazing music that my daughter & I rock out to. Btw....Ty has a line of Yo Gabba Beanie Babies that are really cute if you need a Plex (but be nice & get a Brobee as well, he is so cute with his unibrow)
I am not sure that no matter how cute the cake is I would want to eat a cake with a roach on it even if it is edible. (Pretty sure Wall-e's "friend" is a roach) You forgot I'm alive #5 from Short Circuit. I think #5 looks a lot like Wall-e but still. I'll see if I can dig up a #5 cake. :)
The geek in me wonders if the 0s and 1s on the robot sitting on a cake cake actually spell out anything (like the names of the bride and groom), or if they're just random. Hmmm....
Dr. Who cakes! Squee! I knew today's post would be full of awesome geekery when I saw K-9. The Dalek wedding cake is possibly the best wedding cake EVER!
Love these! Wish I could remember where I saw it, but one time I found an image of a Dalek cake who had opened up his top so you could see his squid parts flopping about. It was mighty impressive. Although not nearly as cool as that wedding cake! what a simple solution for being literal but not too literal!
Also, R2D2 knows bow ties are cool, but still thinks fezzes are decidedly uncool. And I love the lettering on the Optimus Prime cake! (Seriously, that could have gone totally bad or totally bland in a million different ways)
Really don't want to be a pedantic nerd girl but I can't help it - technically Daleks & Cybermen are not robots. Daleks are living creatures inside battle armor (if you will) and Cybermen are cyborgs (organic & artificial parts). This does not diminish the the fact that the cakes look amazing!
I want my very own K-9. Affirmative! And, Wall-E can totally be my robot boyfriend. He is adorable.
My favorite robot is the Iron Giant, and I do believe that's who has the cake on his lap. It would make lots of sense, because he's really sweet like that.
Alas - no Kryten from Red Dwarf...one of the best robots out there!
Actually, john, the old Daleks COULD, in fact, levitate. They did so in Revelation of the Daleks (1985) and Remembrance of the Daleks (1988). There's even a classic cliffhanger in Remembrance when the Doctor is trying to open a door at the top of a staircase, and a Dalek levitates up behind him!
Poor Marvin, the Paranoid Android. He gets no love.
Beautiful and amazing cakes today! I love that Wall-E one. So adorable. And the happy robot cake with a cake in his/her lap.
PS: Jen, as long as you don't ever watch "Remembrance of the Daleks", you will remain safe in your office at the top of the stairs. :-)
As soon as I read your comment about the steps, I had a flashback to the aforementioned episode. The Doctor, after running upstairs, declares that they are safe because Daleks can't climb. See the picture in the link below to see what happened next.
(7th Doctor, Sylvester McCoy)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remembrance_of_the_Daleks
(Or maybe just avoid the link. You're right: Dalek's can't climb YOUR office stairs. But that's because it's a really narrow staircase between cement walls and they don't fit. Right? Right? That's how I built the stairs to my office! )
My heart belongs to K9 but Wal-e is adorable.
What - no Bender?
Oh, squee, those Dalek cakes! Who's a cute widdle hawbinger of death and destwuction? You are! You are! Tickle tickle...
What!?!? No Johnny 5 from Short Circuit?
Hey, man, what's the big idea? These aren't wrecks; these are beautifully conceived and executed cakes. Also interesting to note how fondant has gotten really big these days; it's like nobody uses regular icing anymore. I guess we can thank baking reality TV shows for that. Still, I really dig the Dalek wedding cake, and the Lost In Space robot cake.
I can't believe that nobody out there has done cake versions of the MST3K robots. I'll admit Crow would be rather difficult -- not to mention not having much cake in him -- but, still, doing a really nice Tom Servo cake looks like it might be relatively easy.
For hedge, who was curious about the binary code on the robot wedding cake ( which I made for an awesome couple) , it did spell put something. I had to put it into a binary code translator to find out what it was, and of course I can't remember exactly. I'll ask the bride to tell us.
For the robot wedding cake, I found out what the binary code said: Matt plus Carrie XOXO
Hey, thanks for using the robot cake, too! I'm always happy to be on Sunday Sweets...It's the other days that make me tremble!
Ooh, somebody should make a cake of the Epbot robot now.
The robot with the cake on his lap looks like the Humping Robot from Robot Chicken to me. I also like the birds that look like the Twitter logo on the side of the cake. It's adorable
3 yr old - "Daddy! I want DALEK! I want dalek cake! (Proud nerdy mommy right here)
I want that Yo Gabba Gabba cake for MY next birthday.
I think Marvin from "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and Gort of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" deserve a mention on the Notable Robot list. I couldn't find any Gort cakes, but here's one of Marvin:
http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6011/5918393577_90edb7ab0f_z.jpg
Just made my day! I've always had a thing for Wall-E!!! They are so darn CUTE!!!
And they wonder why I'm an engineer... :-)
LOVE THEM!!!
I want a cake from Short Circuit - Jonny 5!!!
yeah, Marvin the Paranoid android (I KNOW you know who he is!) and Johnny #5 immediately came to mind. as well as the fact that even if Daleks cannot levitate they can still shoot through the doorway. (sorry- just watched The Walking Dead and I'm feeling a bit edgy. [deepbreaththat'sa branchagainstthedoorandnothingelsedeepbreath])
I tried to do Epbot on a cupcake for the book tour and didn't like it enough to take him- I couldn't get him wistful enough. I don't think I'd seen the younger version back then, though. So, who's doing that and submitting it?? ;)
What! No Data?... well I guess not.. he is an Android... not a robot. but none the less I was hoping he would have been slipped in there. My daughter is a trekkie.
It isn't professional, but somebody's mom made a cute Johnny Five cake ("Short Circuit"):
http://circuit5389.deviantart.com/art/Johnny-Five-cake-124085624
Somebody else already mentioned it, but I have to second their question on why no Bender from the show Futurama? He's a fantastic robot and has to be out there in came form...somewhere.
You definitely need to check out Yo Gabba Gabba. It's like a great big g-rated acid trip.
Darn! I'm off to Maryland this week to build a M-O (Microbe Obliterator) cake for my daughter's 3rd birthday. It would have been a great addition to this list...unless it's a big honking flop...in which case you might feature it elsewhere on your site.
Where is the Epbot robot cake?!?!? Seriously - get on that!
And is that little Epbot guy supposed to be silver or grey?
Jen.......You aren't safe with a step into your office I'm afraid.
ELEVATE!!!!!
EXTERMINATE!!!!!
Here's what I thought about my favorites:
1. K-9 Cake: Yes! I do want to snuggle with him!!!
2. R2D2 Cake: Bow Ties are cool.
4. Dalek Wedding Cake: Cel-e-brate!!!!
5. Big Daddy Dalek Cake: Cool, but have you forgotton that Daleks fly?
11 and 12. Cyberman Cake: YOU NEED MORE DOCTOR WHO CAKE MORE OFTEN!!!
13. Wall-E Cake: He's so cute! The plant looks like it was made from sugar!
\m/(>.<)\m/
"Wouldn't you love to see him next to the Big Daddy Dalek?" At that line, I could NOT stop thinking of the Series 2 finale when the Cybermen and the Daleks were arguing about who would identify first. XD Fabulous cakes, all of them! :D
Why robots scare me... (even cute cakey ones).
Also, since you guys are Doctor Who fans, thought you'd enjoy the Dalek Relaxation Tape. Quite the way to exterminate stress.
What about Giant Robot?
No Johnny 5? Yeah, I just dated myself, but I loved Short Circuit as a kid.
WALL-E = Best cake EVER!
Johnny 5 from Short Circuit would be cute
Best. Post. Ever.
(Also, that Optimus Prime is from the "Transformers: Animated" continuity. Just fun fact. :))
I second the "What! No Bender?!?" Futurama is filled with robots.
