Sunday Sweets: Taste The Rainbow

Who says you have to have a white wedding? These bright beauties are proof you can have your color and eat it, too.
Okay, before we head to the Epcot bunker: they're actually hand-painted poppies, and they're beautiful!
Orange you glad I found this gorgeous cake?
By iHeartCakes
Such a great color. Everything should look that cheerful.
Or, if that's too much orange (never!), here's a way to stand out with classic black and white:
Look at the little bows! Clever, indeed.

Okay, those may actually be daisies.
Still, I'm a girl who wants more bang for her buck:

BANG!
I love the vintage feel.
For a more elegant style, this bakery muted the colors and added more feminine detail:

Those piped pearls are divine!
If this doesn't make you green with envy, I'm not sure what will:
Wedding in the garden, perhaps?
How about a classic design with a kick?

Going green has never been more tasteful.
This blue beauty was inspired by sun-printing:

By Once Wed
Totally mod - and what a cool technique!
Moving down the spectrum, these violet violets are just adorable on a modern cube cake:

Made by BethAnn at Studio Cake Design
Simply beautiful.
And if you can't decide on just one color, why not use them all?

By Sweet Element
I love love love this striped summertime sweet. I only hope they used Fruit Stripe gum for wedding favors.
However, I don't think I've ever found a wedding "cake" I love more than this:

Rainbow-colored cake spheres? Roy G. Biv would be proud!

That's weird. I just had a dream about a wedding. Everyone was fighting about what the cake should look like. Now I think I know.
How pretty and cheery :D Love the sunprint and cake ball cakes :D
The blue one is beautiful. It's going in my "Ideas for my eventual wedding should I ever find someone" folder.
I *love* these! I'm totally nuts about the yellow and grey one. I look forward to Sunday Sweets every week!
*pout*
I am already married... do you think I can get a cake like one of these just because?
Cake spheres? Aren't they sort of like cup cake cakes?
Number 6 looks like it's leaning, but it's just the angle of the picture. Rotate it so the base is flat and the cake is a straight pillar. Still beautiful!
Simple, intricate, elegant, tastefull!
The cake balls are GENIUS! No need to cut the cake to serve the guests.
Come on, somebody throw me a party so I can have one of these cakes!
I'm sorry, but I just couldn't cut one of those cakes. I just couldn't.
firstly, the redirect works, just a little slow in the redirecting. congrats on the update. i like that i can scroll back and be reminded if it was the 3rd or 4th cake that i liked... in this case, i like 'em all!
actually, i am quite taken by the mini cupcakes -- esp the b&w bow! -- on the 3rd cake... and yellow & grey... love (it happens to be the 4th cake). love the paste flowers on the 5th, but oh that yellow is a bit much for me. the pretty motifs in the green... the blue with the airbrush (it IS an airbrush technique, yes?)... the lovely purple flowers... oh, and that last one -- just gorgeous! and... and... and...
thanks as always for this virtual treat!
"Okay, those may actually be daisies."
Did you Epcot this on purpose?
Daisies have more than five petals.
Fluffy Cow sez:
"I am already married... do you think I can get a cake like one of these just because?"
Of course you can! (Hint: Anniversary party.)
The yellow and gray and the green damask pattern cakes are my favorite!! They are super gorgeous.
The blue cake is spectacular. Looks like an homage to the old "airbrushed" cobalt blue on Fukagawa porcelain.
Wow - to the poppy cake! (sure they are not daisies...?)
But triple wow to the cake balls - someone plesase tell me how those are done....please!!
I think the flowers in the first yellow cake are supposed to be buttercups. The big fluffy one looks like ranunculus - a fancy type of buttercup. They definitely aren't daisies... Sorry Jen!
These just make me want to get married all over again! (To my original groom, fortunately!) :-) My very favorites are the last two, but honestly - how can anyone ever cut into cakes as beautiful as these?!
Roy G. Biv WOULD be so proud. Works for cake blogs, closet and sock drawer organizing . . . :)
Thanks so much for sharing my yellow cake!!
These cakes are awesome. It sure beats the boring white cakes. I always wondered if there was some law. I decided that if I ever got married I was going to break the cake rule and have chocolate and by chocolate I mean real chocolate that's brown.
Those poppies are amazing. Well I can't say anything bad about any of them since they are all great. The last one is just adorable. I don't think I've ever called a cake adorable before but I did this time. The blue one is pretty amazing too. I'm lucky to be able to use a cake mix and end up not burning the cake.
Loving the new, larger pictures on the site. No more need to click on the picture to get the bigger picture to see the details.. although I did click on the poppy cake. Whoa.. it's like they're IN the room!
Wow, faster than a departing bakery employee on Friday! Love it much, good luck with insects, wreck on!
If my brother would have lived long enough to get married I think he would have wanted the orange cake! Of course probably put the bridesmaid in John Deere green though. My favorite is the fruit stripe one!! How fun.
The violets make me sad because I was told I couldn't have purple frosting for my wedding cake as it would turn gray. And the shape of the all yellow cake seems weird unless it was just the angle of the pic. I love the 3D pink flowers on it but the top layer is distracting.
Loving the orange cake - here in the great state of Tennessee (home of the VOLS!), there's no such thing as "too much orange"! In fact, I'm sure there have been many wedding cakes very similar to that one...
And the yellow/gray one is fabulous. If I could design my wedding over again, it would be those colors and that cake. Seriously.
Looks like there aren't any daisies in the entire post, Gerber(a) or otherwise. Darn. Nice try, though, Number One.
As for cake spheres being sort of like a CCC... are people trying to launch an EPCOT today? Don't get me wrong; as a card-carrying subversive, I'm totally down with that. Just wondering, that's all.
These cakes are really tasteful.
Congrats on the new site! What a pleasure to see these Sunday Sweets wedding cakes in all their glory!
Ooohh, pretty!
And I was going to say buttercups and the bigger yellow flower could be a Welsh Poppy (look it up) oh and FYI the violet flowers are not violets...may just be a made up pretty thing, though they do look a bit like several different flora. :)
Dangnabbit, ya got me on the first post... As I had my first sip of coffee half way to my lips I thought "those aren't daisies, those are poppies." Duh yeah. At least the coffee wasn't already in the mouth because as soon as I thought that I R E M E M B E R E D.
Now maybe I can get a little Ebcot subversive action started by telling all ya wrecky readers that you don't have to "get married" to have a pretty cake! IF you need some sort of reason try anniversary, birthday, even thank goodness I managed to keep my shoes matched all week. Or plan a romantic dinner with cake as the main course. A beautiful cake doesn't have to be big. However I will agree with you when you say its hard to cut into some of those works of art.
Just. Gorgeous. That is all.
OK, I'm in love with the poppy and blue cakes. LOVE, I say! The yellow-and-grey number is pretty, but I would probably be inclined to do something other than grey (it just brings the cheeriness factor down-- grey skies vs sunny day). Similarly, I'm not an olive fan, but use a different green (oo, or purple) and that cake would also make my "I love" list.
The passover jellies cake makes me totally giggle (hey, my 40th is coming up in December... something tastefully childish like that would be PERFECT! See, you don't need a wedding [smile]).
And the cake balls cake is very clever, particularly since they have different sized balls. BTW, it's not a CCC-- cupcakes are totally cool, it's when you ice them together with inch-thick frosting and treat it as a regular cake that it turns into a patooie candidate. If you want a regular cake, use a regular cake! And I'm curious as to how they did them (I can make a couple of guesses, but the answer intrigues me).
Those cake spheres are absolutely gorgeous. Such a neat, unique idea!
I love the Fruit Stripe cake!
I just wanted to let you know that I have cakewrecks.com saved in my browser and when I went to it, it took me to the old page and instead of redirecting it kept refreshing.
Fruit Stripe gum was my first thought! I was happier still when I realized there *really* was a pattern to the friut slices...
The blue one reminds me of a Sunprint Kit.
@Fluffy Cow -- I am also married, but that didn't stop me from proposing to a friend of mine so we could have the Godzilla wedding cake from a few weeks past! (My friend is also Godzilla-crazy, but he turned me down because I didn't "make with the ring".)
I think the rainbow one with the candy fruit slices would be perfect for my daughter -- maybe a less wedding-y version for her birthday..?
I really look forward to Sundays, and these were all wonderful!
I'm glad you said something about the piped pearls because I was wondering if they were from a craft store or if they were actually edible. That one and the poppies are my second and third favorites.
While they are all truly beautiful, I think the blue cake is absolutely sublime! A real stunner!
The one with the fruit slices and piping reminds me of a candy we used to get as kids. I can't put my finger on the name, think 70's....
These have made me smile today, thank you! Really beautiful, particlularly the gorgeous yellow cake and the Criollo Cake is delightful
Love. Them. All. My particular favorite was the green one. I think my grandmother's bathroom was wallpapered in that design and color....not particularly good for a bathroom, but great for a cake
Hope John gets some sleep! Loved the IE6 Comment. If my mother were current enough to use a computer I would have sworn it was Mom who complained....She who still has a dial phone in the house!
Wreck on - you guys make my day!
will miss WV ...
@Fluffy Cow: anniversary cake. Duh. You don't even have to have a party, a smallish multi REIT cake is possible.
Congrats on the new site.
I love the temari cakes on the last one! This is my favorite set from the cake maker's website, but they're all wonderful!
"Who says you have to have a white wedding?"
that would be Billy Idol.
absolutely fabulous cakes. and the new site works just fine. good job all around.
The poppies are wonderful but the "Sun print" one is just astounding! I am going to be ordering a cake for my birthday in September and I think I may ask for one or the other versions...
10-year anniversary coming up for me in December. I'm totally having a party and getting a wedding cake. I made my wedding cake, so I think I deserve a fancy one for the anniv. Can't decide what it'll look like, but it'll definitely have flowers.
I completely love these! Especially the blue cake - totally my style. Some cakes are so awesome that I briefly wish I'd actually had a wedding cake rather than a tiramisu (but then I remember the tiramisu and go "oooooohh", so nevermind).
The first orange cake makes me wish orange were one of my wedding colors!
Such sweet and colorful stunners!
Yellow's my favorite color, so of course I LOVE the yellow cake with the buttercups!
I love green, too and so I fell in love with that cute green striped cake with roses and that elegant, GORGEOUS cake with the green print and flowers.
And the rainbow striped one? Brought a smile to my face!
I LOVE Sunday Sweets!
