Sunday Sweets: Home Sweet Home

Hi there! I'm Lindsey, and I'm the new kid here at Cake Wrecks. I hail from the blog Better After, and was super stoked when Jen asked me to guest post for Sunday Sweets. I'm still happy dancing about it and hope I can live up to the utter awesomeness that is Cake Wrecks. Please sit by me in the cafeteria!
Now, my blog is about furniture and home decor makeovers and not cake. So I thought I'd ease myself into the cake world - dip my big toe in, so to speak - by featuring some furniture and home decor-themed Sweets. Who's excited? I am!! (PS: sorry about mentioning my toes and cake in the same sentence, ew).
Ok, first up is Leandro Erlich's chocolate couch:
"Lindsey," you're thinking, "You've been around paint fumes far too long. That is obviously a Mies Van Der Rohe Barcelona sofa!" No my friends, it is indeed a cake. See? Proof:
For your tum tum, not your bum bum!
(I ... apologize).
Nothing says comfort food quite like food that looks well, comfortable. Like this cake:
...which is a replica of this bed:
I daresay the cake looks even comfier!
So, this next cake might not be exactly what your mother had in mind when she asked you to provide the cake at your sister's "Bridal Shower":
Submitted by Marisa S. and made by Planet Cake
Ha! That is quite the devilish grin, sir.
And we all know what that kind of monkey business leads to:
Monkeys!
And also, babies!
The home decor nerd in me lives on, because the first thing I noticed were those fabulous "hardwood" floors.
While we're on the topic of home decor, if you asked me how to improve a drab kitchen, I'd probably suggest painting your cabinets white:
If you asked me how to improve a drab living room couch,I can't think of anything better than draping a drooling Homer Simpson across the top.
By Erin Salerno
Or, if your local decor depot is fresh out of Homers, perhaps you could just add some nice throw pillows:
Amazing! I bet you could repaint your entire house twice in the time it took to make these insanely detailed cakes. Or come repaint my house. Either way.
Nailhead trim is also a great way to spice up any chair. And while I don't recommend nails in cakes, or shag carpeting in general, shag carpet frosting cannot be denied.
Did you notice the little bowl of individually crafted potato chips? That is some serious attention to detail.
And here's lots more:
I spy: a stamped letter, used post-its, an iphone, three pens, two pencils and six wads of crumpled up paper!
Would you care for a spot of tea with this well-read lady?
By Cake Central member tguegirl
Or is a game of snooker more your style?
(Lest you falsely assume that I am really up to speed on my billiards terminology, I admit I had this conversation with Google: "Pool game with red balls?")
I love the use of black fondant for the negative space under the table, which effectively maximizes its eat-ability-ness. Very important.
Oh, you prefer tea? Well, how about tea for two? This next cake was inspired by the book My Very First Tea Party and requires a long, loving look to fully absorb every delightful detail:
By Karen H.
Like the steam curling out of the cups and the chocolate dipped strawberries. Fantastic!
(Note: the table cloth and wire chair frames aren't edible. But you probably knew that. )
Well, that's all for now! Thanks for letting me crash the party, and if you'll excuse me, I'm like, really hungry.

You did a great job! I loved it!
Great job, and welcome! I am always amazed at these cakes, and what people can do. (Even on some of the wrecks, it's better than I could do!) But the ones on the Sunday Sweets are truly amazing art!
Hey Lindsey! Welcome to Cake Wrecks! Nice post-- I am beyond amazed by that kitchen cake. I never thought I'd say this, but I would definitely feel bad eating that one. The cabinet handles! The sink! Those teeny tiny dials on the oven!! So cute. The colors in the cushion are absolutlely stunning as well.
Excellent Lindsey, most excellent. Gee, how does one become a guest presenter here? Inquiring minds wish to know!
More importantly, how good are these cakes. My jaw hit the floor a few times through this. You could end up sleeping on the wrong bed if you weren't careful (or trying to eat the wrong one). The tea setting is to die for, and I ahd to hold off a million 'yes Mr. president' jokes at the owman in her library. Skill, that is all it is, skill.
No Lindsey, i won't repaint your house, nor will I suggest white for a colour scheme, but I will agree that you do a good job at narrating and shuld be back again soon... I hope.
I stared at the chocolate couch for a long time with eyes wide open while almost drooling.
The bed and sofa cake made me hungry and sleepy
Lindsey, those furniture cakes are fabulous!
On your first at-bat, you hit it out of the park!
I'll sit with you in the cafeteria!
Bravo! What beautiful cakes! That sofa looked delicious!
Seriously? You just combined my two favorite bloggers in one spot. I LOVE it!!
Excellent job, Lindsey!
Every single one of these cakes is simply amazing!! Thank you, Lindsey!
WELL DONE!!
I wonder how many people got a chocolaty butt from sitting on that first couch cake! My old dollhouse didn't have a kitchen as nice as the kitchen cake, which was really good. My favorite, though, was the tea party cakes!
Beautiful cakes today! This blog never ceases to amaze me by the things that get made into cake. I love them all but am particularly drawn to the library one. I love books! Fantastic debut! Hope you had fun :)
Very well done. You were a great guest poster.
Im snookered by the skills.
You did a wonderful job, Lindsey! I'm still baffled over the kitchen cake and all those tiny black handles on the drawers! Amazing!
Loved the humor mixed in! Great read.
Excellent inaugural post, Lindsey! You picked a bunch of stunning and delicious winners! I don't think you'll have any problem with lack of cafeteria company, that's for sure! :-)
Welcome, Lindsey! (Trade you half of my sandwich for one of your cookies?)
I didn't fully appreciate the tea party cakes until I noticed the newspapers in the background. Everything is full-sized! Any one of those pieces-- the purse, the hat, the teapot-- would be a Sweet all on its own; put them all together, it's a little intimidating.
Great job, Lindsey!!! fYour blog is my fav and now I get to enjoy and laugh at your humor with another blog that I am now a huge fan of!!!! Can't even imagine knowing how to do a cake like those!!! AMAZING!!
That throw pillow cake is perfection!
Great post sis!
You did great!
Welcome to the Cake Wrecks team, Lindsey! I really enjoyed this post. Hope to "see" you here again soon! :)
Nice job! Made me laugh and smile. The tea party cake was too cute!
Brilliant!..I think they all look awesome!
That was a great post! The tea part was especially great.
Great job Lindsey! I'll be happy to sit with you in the cafeteria. Here ~ I'll share my lunch with you!
this is my first day on this site! and what an amazing post! its hard to believe that they are all cakes! thanks for sharing with us!
Did anyone else think of this lady when reading this post? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/21/woman-addicted-eating-couch-cushions_n_812003.html
Great Sunday Cakes!!! :)
Lindsey - great post. And I'm astounded at how many awesome decor cakes you found!
Unbelievable! Now how am I supposed to do my work and errands, when all I can think of is how crazy these cakes are and how much fun it would be to figure out how they are made? the potato chips on the ottoman were the funniest thing I've seen all week. And the pillows stacked up - how cool is that?! Of course, if I could just get a piece of that chocolate couch ...
That kitchen . . . . OMG. Just, HOW?? There is a tiny cord coming out of the tiny toaster, plugged into a tiny outlet!! Seriously, whoever made that, I hereby dub thee the god of cake!
Good job, Lindsey! I love all the cakes and your comments! The sofa cake is awe.some!!!! :)
LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!
Welcome,l Lindsey! :)
Oh, these cakes are stunners! That first one had me doing a double-take. It take serious skills to make something like cake look like that couch!@
I agree on the cake bed. it looks comfier than the real thing.
Loving the little monkeys on the bed!
Favorite? The tea party cake! Simply sweet and perfectly charming!
Lindsey, I am absolutely blown away about the job you did on this! I haven't had so much fun in a while! Now, please get back over where you belong--I just found Better After recently, and have enjoyed it SO much. I don't want you to get away before I'm even settled in!
Fantastic job, Lindsay! You'll fit right in; in fact, you already do. And fantastic cakes, too. Had to laugh at the shower cake -- love and water conservation -- it's what we live for!. Again, Lindsey, awesome job!
I think the monkeys on the bed is from the kids' rhyme "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed"...
Five little monkeys jumping on the bed,
One fell off and bumped his head.
Mama called the Doctor and the Doctor said,
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"
Four little monkeys jumping on the bed,
One fell off and bumped her head.
Papa called the Doctor and the Doctor said,
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"
Three little monkeys jumping on the bed,
One fell off and bumped his head.
Mama called the Doctor and the Doctor said,
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"
Two little monkeys jumping on the bed,
One fell off and bumped her head.
Papa called the Doctor and the Doctor said,
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"
One little monkey jumping on the bed,
He fell off and bumped his head.
Mama called the Doctor and the Doctor said,
"Put those monkeys straight to bed!"
Fantastic post! I loved all these cakes and your funny commentary. Look forward to hearing more from you!
Is the first one a regular cake or Boston cream pie? Any reason for a really huge BCP will do -- it means others get to eat some as well. [evil grin]
I kept wanting to hit the "Like" button but didn't find one! Great post!
Lindsey, I was watching Cake Box the other day and they made a toilet that flushes. A cake toilet lol. They even made little stools for inside of it. lmao!!!
Welcome! What a wonderful post! You certainly add to the read- and laugh-ability-ness of CW!
I, too, ask Google questions, which used to irritate the heck out of my exboyfriend. (Notice I said "EX boyfriend.)
Hey, you fit right in! Good job! I love the bees at the tea party - makes me wants to build a fondant window box full of flowers and bumbles.
Great work Lindsey! Lovely cakes all, but I especially covet the woman in the office/library. That is so detailed and realistic and sooo me. I'll have to figure out how to send just that pic to my spouse as a hint for my upcoming birthday cake. You did a good job and Jen and John got a day off - win all around!
Wonderful post! (What an incredible amount of cake decorating talent.)
Aww, thanks so much for the love! I'm totally going to doodle your names in puffy hearts on my trapper keeper.
Wow.. just amazed at these gorgeous cakes. Lindsey did a great job with the sweets bring her back again :).
Well done, Lindsey, well done.
That SHOWER cake is the best shower cake I have ever seen. It screams!
Loved the post! Lindsey is funny, she should guest more often!
