Author's Log 10242011
October 26, 2011 It's been one week since we left home on our five week voyage, and so far, morale remains high.
;)
We experienced some troublesome maintenance issues our first two nights, first with malfunctioning sound dampeners next to the station's galley, and then with a poisoned air filter that left us with a nasty case of Betelguisian lung rot.
;)
Or maybe that was an allergic reaction to the port's complimentary flip-flops.
Anyway, once we moved on to our next station the living quarters were up to optimal levels, and we were able to get some much needed rest.
Our first mission was to the Atlantans, a friendly people who presented us with bizarre tributes:

This one contained a yellow gelatinous substance marked "E. Spengler." We gave it a wide berth.
However, the local fare was undeniably delicious:

The natives themselves proved most agreeable under the placating effects of the baked goods, and fortunately our mission passed without incident.
From there we moved on to the region of Concord, home of excessively large shopping malls and confusing ground traffic. Here the tributes seemed to take an insidious turn:

Though thankfully the natives remained peaceful, no doubt due in large part to the addictive qualities of their peculiar edible totem:

It was unsettling, to be sure, but we put on a brave face and were careful to make no sudden movements.
Others there presented us with ghoulish visages, perhaps as some kind of colloquial good luck charm?

We did our best to show the proper respect, but despite our efforts the First Mate and I kept laughing. I blame the addictive nature of these insidious treats, but more "research" is needed.

Here, at least, they were able to vent their cannibalistic hostilities on my effigy...

...and we were able to escape unscathed during the melee.
The First Mate and I are continuing on to our next stop today, and we can only hope that it, too, will prove to be a piece of cake.

This made me laugh so hard! I pre-ordered the book and was so thrilled to have received it! I have to admit the first thing I did was take off the sticker on the front so it said "Prefessional!"
I still wish Ace of Cakes was on the air. Then maybe we could've seen the gang from Charm City Cakes make your cake.

I'm so excited by the Charm City Cakes-wreck. That is beyond cool, and vaguely nauseating with all that air brushing.
Not to be a downer at all-- I was equally impressed that Charm City made the cake for Baltimore (to be honest I was hoping they would). And having the chance to met Elena (as well as Jen and John) was great! But honestly guys, the Charm City cake was just cake... Decorating aside (which was awesome) it wasn't even one of the top cakes I've ever had... It was just cake. :(

LOVE the Charm City Cake. I was particularly amused by the misspelling of your (you're) considering how pedantic Mary Alice is about such things :)
The "edible totem" cake had me in stitches! This is the loveliest, wreckiest post. Cake Wrecks in-jokes are awesome, although either people are creating new memes or there are some I have missed although how, I honestly couldn't tell you.
"Poisoned air filter" huh? Are you sure the First Mate wasn't blaming it on that since the cats weren't handy? ;-)
Wish we could have come to see you, but it was just too far. We're an hour on the other side of Philly from where you were. Maybe next time!

I must admit, I squealed the geek-girl squeal of delight when I saw my wreck tribute made the blog. Out of two Baltimore wrecks, mine made it on! Eeeeeeee!
And as fun as the Charm City Cake was, and as awesome to have Elena there in the house, I am jealous of the other stops’ professional cakes. The time and energy that were put into them just look amazing! Not to take anything away from the Charm City Cake. You’ve got to admit they didn’t really need the extra exposure.

That birth cake (2nd to last) is certainly interesting because the brown globs that look like poo are actually representing poo. Yech!
Can I just point out that the tribute cake com Concord was made by Baking and Pastry Students from the local Community College? I was totally impressed with their work! To make a professional looking cake with so many nods to actual wrecks was great. But my favorite thing was the baby on the carrot as a topper! Well done.
The problem with the Charm City Cake is that if you say, "Look at what Charm City Cakes made for me!" and show that picture, the response is bound to be something along the lines of, "Of course they made you a cake." in the tone of voice normally used on those with brain damage.
Cosplaying as cakes... what will they think of next?
