Wreckie Grad Shows Us How It's Done
June 13, 2009 Allison must have the best sister ever. Just look at what she made for Allison's graduation party:
Awwww yeeeeeaaaah. Now THAT is a graduation cake, my friends.Allison writes,
"Most of the partygoers didn't get why I was dying of laughter when I saw it. It was the best cake anyone has ever given me, and was well worth three years of graduate school just for the cake! The best part was waking up the next day to the dozens of naked baby graduates she had hidden all over my house: in my shower, on my pillow, on my computer, in the kitchen cupboards, and wherever else I haven't found yet."
That cake plus a Carrot Jockey Hunt? Wow. You lucked out in the sibling department there, Allison.
Now, those of you graduating soon, I think you know what to do.

Dana. Her name is not Gwendolyn but Dana: she said so 20 minutes before your post. Good point, though, and I imagine Dana's hadn't got through moderation when you wrote it.
FYI:
The naked babies are made for king cakes...As a New Orleanian, you eat them every mardi gras season...it's basically sweet bread (almost like a cinnamon roll) with sugar and icing on top, with a baby (Jesus, the "king", hence the name "king cake") hidden in the middle. The cake is in a ring shape. The tradition is that whomever gets the piece with the baby buys the cake the next year (of course I forgot to mention that there are countless parties before and after parades during mardi gras, which is when all of this cake is eaten). Why the baby is naked, i'm not sure...didn't know what a child of that time period would have worn?
I want one!

It wasn't Rosanne Rosannadanna who said "Never mind" all the time.
It was the little, old, crotchety Emily Litella. Same person, though--the great Gilda Radner.

I love it! If I'd known about Cake Wrecks when I graduated college, that's the kind of cake I'd have wanted. Lucky, lucky Allison.

Actually when Scary Spice got married that is exactly what was on top of her wedding cake.
OKAY! Awesome! My mom has requested a carrot jockey cake for her graduation!! I need tips! Does anyone know how the caps & diplomas were done? And WHERE on earth do the jockeys come from!? I thought about kings cake babies but those don't look right. HELP! She really would just love a carrot jockey cake and I would loe to make her one.

Ok, I am JEALOUS. I did grad school for 5 YEARS. AND I only got a Master's. (Was supposed to be a PhD, but I couldn't cut the mustard. Partly cuz I realized that I don't have the personality required to work long hours in a lab surrounded by a sea of people all working on their own projects and bitterly fighting to beat each other to publication. But I digress.) AND NO CAKE!!! :-(
So, anyway, wish I had family like Allison's. Glad you guys care so much - there needs to be more love in this world. More power to ya and I hope Allison returns the favor to her sis @ her next big event. Go Allison's sister!!! :-)
Working my way through CW archives still. In case Dana and Allison still check the comments on this post, I thought this was hilarious. Dana, it was very thoughtful of you and must have been time-consuming sticking little mortarboards and diplomas on each baby carrot jockey. Allison, thanks very much for sharing it. I started laughing as soon as I saw the picture of the cake, even before reading anything. Well done and slow clap for both of you.
