What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

When Brides Have No Budget (Or Taste)

Obviously someone needed to rein in this woman during the wedding planning. What kind of ego does it require to commission a life-sized replica of yourself in cake? But what really baffles me is this: the details are exact right down to the hair clip, so what the heck is UP with that tacky red rick-rack down the skirt of the cake? "Sure, we hand-painted a matching bodice-design, copied the make-up and hairstyle, and have identical veils - but then we thought this giant rick-rack would add just the right extra touch!" ?!?

Obviously Bridezilla shares my opinion: she's eying that red trim with murder in her eyes.

did they save the head, for the first anniversary? that would be creepy to pull out of the freezer, on the anniversary of their wedding day

These are the rudest comments.
This is a custom in her country - an over the top version but a custom none the less. Its no different than American women having peacocks around the room and gold on the cakes. It's extreme but it's common.
The fact people are also making fun of her name is rude as heck, too. I do not know exactly the steps but I've known many people that have changed to an American name/word once they gain citizenship. Either she or her family picked Innocence for her because it represents something to them. That's beautiful, not absurd.

I frequently facepalm over society but this cake and these comments are down right shameful.

the Rick-rack is to make sure the groom knows which one is edible...

The cake is MUCH prettier than the bride!!!!!

This bakery is around the corner from me! We get her adds every month with a picture of it! It scares my kids every time, lol! And if that's not bad enough she recreated it and has it as a display in the bakery! I should show her that her cake made it online =D

Maybe the Groom ordered a Bride to match the cake??!

I must say, these cakes are a work of art and I would be proud to own many of them as ceramic pieces. As for the bride cake, this one tops them all, absolutely outrageously gorgeous and so extravagant, I found the bride in her gown to be the Cinderella of the ball and just as beautiful.

Richard,

Given your apparent lack of good taste, I won't even venture a guess as to the number of Beanie Babies, Precious Moments, dreamcatchers and silk flower "arrangements" you've got lining the Princess Pink walls of your dilapidated doublewide, bless your heart.

You may now eat the bride!

Really? "We perfectly replicated you in cake and clay, but then we thought this RED RICK-RACK would add the perfect touch!"
Looking at her, *I* think she's an absolute #%*@$.

The cake looks better than the bride lol

When I saw this, I thought "This is EXACTLY what my Nigerian friend would have at her wedding" hahaha… turns out I'm pretty perceptive. :)

As a half-American half-European living in Europe I always find my friend's Nigerian-ness a refreshing change from social values here. Do what you love, say what you think and don't let anyone tell you your giant life-size cake is tacky. :D

This one's a win for me. :)

What is UP with that HAND around her waist?!

November 23, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterElla (I'm 9!)

The necklace is different, the gloves are different, the earings are different, the veil is different, the bodice is not really the same, so what is a bit of rick-rack ?

With the Bridezillas cake:The front of the dress and the Necklace don't match. And the zigzag down the side is AWFUL!!

That cake has got some serious badonkadonk going on.

"You may now cut the bride."

I was recently reminded of a cake wreck of some sort in the music video for "Don't Come Around Here No More" by Tom Petty -- around the 3:51 mark, a cast of Alice in Wonderland eats her while she immobiley protests, reminded me of this :)

the bride has just realized she's created a voodoo doll cake - OF HERSELF!

Buddy Velastro, the "Cake Boss", makes life-size cakes for his customers all the time. Why is everyone so hung over this particular cake. He made one of Betty White just the other day. Is that any less creepy than this one?

I saw this and thought of African countries where, as a previous poster said, effigies are so common

September 16, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterRebecca

I'm guessing an attempt at Zoe Saldana covered in chocolate and rickrack.

I hope they had a lot of guest at the reception or they would have a lot of leftovers.

Folks, that cake isn't real cake from the waist up. It's probably wood and plastic. Check out the 2 screws connecting the arm to the body.

February 14, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPinnacos

This is NOT common here in Nigeria, must be a personal thing

February 18, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterifeyinwa

I'm guessing the red rick-rack was intentional. Just a hunch. (Insert evil laugh on behalf of the baker.)

March 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSusan Bauer

Anyone else think she looks like Uhura?

March 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTheCreepyTribble

Uhm...anybody else notice the disembodied hand on her hip..?

September 14, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterIsobel

Any budget bride can pull off a unique wedding on a budget, this one is a bit weird, but funny at that! To each her own, I guess.

This is not cultural...so please stop trying to over analyse. The bride obviously wanted something and she had the means to do it and she got what she wanted. Though to me...its kinda over the top,but heck its her wedding.
