What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Suite Interview

I recently did an interview with Alicia King for Suite 101, the online magazine and writers' network. Unlike my previous interviews, in this one we talk about the writing process behind Wrecks and also about the upcoming Cake Wrecks book. You'll also learn which comic-strip character most resembles my father: a revelation which will probably be news to him, too. (Surprise, Dad!)

Check out the interview here.

Moments after you posted this I saw in a Facebook update that a college classmate of mine did the interview. Very cool. Nice interview. Keep up the good work.

Very interesting. I just discovered their website a week ago when I was looing for a recipe. Amazing all the info they cover.

Jen,

Now I'm a little sad that the price of our amusement is your messy home. Awwww.

Ok, I'm over it now.

Thanks for the great wrecks!

Jen I love the new t-shirt design, I'm such a proud momma that my son's monkey cake has been honored to be on your shirt. Yup it's going to be a Monkey Doo Do Christmas at our house :). LOL Thanks again. Lex

Jen, I just LOVE your sense of humor! The only drawback to your blog is that it burns when coffee comes shooting out of your nose. No more drinking while wreck-reading. Lesson learned.

Peals of thunderous applause! Your adoring public is so proud. Congratulations.

I'm also sorry about the sacrifice of your housekeeping for our gain and entertainment. I wonder what MY excuse is. Off to vacuum!

Great interview, but it left me with a question: what do you read when you have time? Cake Wrecks readers want to know! (or point us to a page on GoodReads.com?)

PS: I know books is a tangent when the subject is traditionally cake, but books + cake = nothing better! And since you have one coming out in 2009 and all.... :)

Very cool interview. I think I understand now why I enjoy your particular sense of humor. I to was raised on a Dilbert-ish Dad while watching Star Trek and British comedies. My favorite episode to this day of S.T. is "City on the Edge of Forever" Ahh, the sweet memories.

I'm so happy for you! I love the description of living the Web 2.0 American Dream ... so true.

But mostly, I wanted to write, because I have never heard anyone else compare their dad to a cartoon character. For years I have been describing my dad as a combination of Charlie Brown and Elmer Fudd. (All in a good way -- he is sweet and kind, and oh yes, bald. :-)

Nice interview, and nice to get a peek at the person behind all the frosting. Love your blog more and more each day. I just did a mention (sort of a non-obligation award) on my blog today (Friday 12/12.

I love your honesty! and most of all - I love cakewrecks! I check it every single day. It's now a part of my every day routine. I wish I would have thought of it. LOL
