Disclaimer

I've gotten some complaints from a few of you today regarding the ads appearing here on Cake Wrecks - specifically in regards to those concerning Prop 8. Please be aware that none of the ads on this site necessarily represent the views of myself or anyone else affiliated with Cake Wrecks. The ads in question are being displayed by Google, which does not give us any input or control over the ads it displays. My apologies to any and all of you who may have been offended.
Thanks, all! Wreck on!

This site has ads? What ads? ;-) Ah, the bliss that is ignorance of ads when using Firefox with Ad-Blocker :-D
Honestly? This is one of my biggest internet peeves-- failure to understand that ads are not hand-selected by the site owner, but generated by a third party beyond the owner's control. Sigh...
It's not a problem. I know all too well what happens when automatic ad software goes berserk. We still love you: honest.
Those Pro-Prop 8 ads seem to be everywhere. There's been a large number of sites that have posted disclaimers about them in the past few days.
Thank goodness for Google Reader :)
I view you via google reader so I don't see adds either, and I don't know what prop 8 is so you have no complaints from me (just don't tell me what it is OK?)
I've read on another blog that received similar complaints that it might be virus related. I guess a virus hijacks the ad-space and puts up pro prop-8 ads. I haven't seen them, but people seemed to be really offended by them.
I read via a reader, too, so no complaints from me. And when I clicked thru, I got an MSN Search ad, so that's okay! ;)
As Reiza said, lots of Prop 8 ads popping up on blogs, and *lots* of complaints about it. Which is interesting...
Good gravy, do people not have the ability to IGNORE the ads?? I don't even read them - barely see what they're even for....otherwise, I'd annoy myself EVERYWHERE I go on the web. People need to chill out, and bloggers/site owners shouldn't have to post disclaimers all the time...it's sad that you needed to, Jen! Sorry you had to deal with it at all!
Here here to Firefox with Ad-Blocker!
We love you, dontcha worry.
Reading via bloglines I'd never noticed the ads. Perhaps this is a sign we should pass around the metaphorical collection plate (paypal plate?) to have an ad-free cakewrecks...
The ads don't bother me any. Just wanted to let you know. I know you can't control it. Plus after the voting tomorrow, the Prop 8 ads should be gone....If it makes you feel any better 4shared has Prop 8 ads all over the place right now too...
I'd just like to thank you for being very polite and not offending either side regardless of your views. Cake Wrecks FTW! :)
I think it's based on cookies. I have not seen any prop-8 ads, but I have been seeing ads for Oregon's ballot measures (I'm not in Oregon, but I seem to have a cookie that makes ad servers think I am).
Either way, I don't hold it against anyone ;-)
Geez - don't people understand they don't have to read the Prop-8 ads? Or any other ads? You have a choice people! Exercise it! It is also known as TOLERANCE.
:D
I don't understand why people would complain anyway. Even if you do support prop 8. Who cares, does it really effect the humor of your site? :p I say! :)
So glad I'm not the only one that uses Firefox with ABP! I love Cake Wrecks, don't you worry a bit about it! :)
Great googly-moogly people....they are just ads and can't be controlled! Why can't people just ignore ads like most of the population and concentrate on the content of the site that we visit? Sheesh!
Sorry Jenn that you have to deal with complainers of the world....all the while I complain about complainers. ha! :)
No worries. I've been seeing those ads all over the place. It's insane.
While completely unconnected to sugary goodness --- No on prop 8.
Funny that you say that, I did a post on my Blogger blog and noticed I had the same freaking ad on Prop 8 appearing through Google Adsense. Needless to say I was pissed. All you have to do is go into you dashboard and select layout then find Adsense and the easiest thing to do is delete it.
I think you can change your Adsense settings to not show political ads, etc. But if you want to get rid of it right now you can. Good luck!
Hey, I say that if you can get bigots to pay you for blog traffic, more power to you! :0)
I can understand not wanting to see the blasted things, but every nickel you earn from them is a nickel the bigots don't have anymore.

It never ceases to amaze me how people need to find something to whine about. Ads are ads. Ignore them if you don't like them. I didn't even know what it was because I don't live in that state. I had to look it up.
I didn't notice that you had ads either. If someone pays money for an ad they have a right for it to be there (though you have also have the right to refuse to post it if you want). Are you going to refund their money for the days lost? I really don't think it's a big deal and people shouldn't be so uptight.
Who pays attention to the ads? LOL
Can I complain that sometimes there are diet ads on this site? I don't want to have to feel guilty over eating cake for breakfast.
Thanks to the fact that my blog posts cover a broad range of topics and my blog's name is "Another Monkey", my current top ad is "Draw A Monkey" (by Dick Blick Art Supplies, apparently.) No Prop 8 ads yet.
Gosh, I haven't been propositioned in a while....oh wait, that isn't what you're discussing is it.
Carry on! ;)
People are so whiny about advertisements. Tell them to help you pay for another blog and maybe the ads will disappear.
And who cares what ads are on your personal site and whether they represent you or not?
I think it shows the narrow minded self centered behavior of the people complaining...
I saw a similar post about Prop 8 ads on Kalyn's Kitchen, apparently they bought adspace on google ads and they only show up to people in CA. The reason people get offended is they assume that the ad on your blog indicates your position, and these are non-political blogs, and many bloggers are upset that these have been going up without their knowledge (if you aren't in CA you can't see them). I would personally be pretty mad about it, but I'm not in CA so I can't even see them... I thought the No to Prop 8 post on Kalyn's was really lovely, btw, and handled with aplomb.
I cannot believe that anyone would come here and complain about the ads.
Aren't they here to view cakes? I never saw a political affiliation one way or another with your website....you post about sugar/flour confectionary....
Goodness sakes has it come to this - that someone that brings levity and humor to a simple fact of life [cakes] can be abused due to advertising?
It is beyond ridiculous. Please don't take what they say personally, regardless of what your beliefs are.
You could be a sword bearing, green meanie, supporting twittle bird hunting while eating a non splickle diet and I would still come back everyday and adore you.
Hang in there! We love you!
people complaining = conversation generation = knowledge is spread

Hey people. If you don't like the "vote yes on prop 8" ad, then show them by voting NO!
didn't actually notice the ads -- i mean, good lord you can't help but notice that they're there, but i kind of just filter them out. (just like i do on the bus, in the car, watching tv...)
so then, 2 things come to mind:
first - you need a donation button. yes, a donation button, so you can actually off-set some of the cost for writing your delicious blog! someone else suggested passing the paypal plate, and that's pretty much it. and then maybe you won't necessarily need to rely as heavily on those ads that you can't necessarily hand pick...
second - no on prop 8! b/c discrimination of that sort is NOT sweet or sugar-y, it's wrong.
Having said that, it'll still benefit you if we click on 'em ;)
Grin, I say tell folks to click on every Yes Prop 8 ad they see. The advertiser PAYS for every click which means we can take money out of their pockets.
It's a shame people are taking it out on the bloggers though.
I never pay attention to ads, and, honestly, I didn't think anyone did! Everyone really should just remember that all the political ads will be gone as of tomorrow night. No worries.
i didn't notice the ads, but perhaps you might consider having all political type ads kept off the site to avoid this very thing.
there's not a whole lot you can do about the ads except what you're doing. and you know...i kind of like the cupcake cakes when they're well done. happily your site is where i get to see the incredible "fail"ures :D
Right now, all the ads I see are for dieting and losing weight. OH THE HORROR!!
Those insidious ads are trying to imply that my all cake diet is wrong or something...pshaw!
Well obviously YOU are the sole mastermind behind these ads, and you must be stopped!!!
Seriously though... if you don't like them, use Firefox with AdBlock. Problem solved!
