What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: Doctor Who Day...ish

Tomorrow is Doctor Who Day so of course we had to post some amazing Doctor Who Sweets today. Sadly, we're at a convention so we ran out of time and couldn't write our usual commentary. Sorry about that. Please enjoy today's cakes and imagine we're saying something witty and/or profound. -john (the hubby of Jen)

Love you guys! CakeWrecks makes me laugh on days when I need it and Epbot gives me a sense of community and makes it possible for me to not be ashamed of my geekery in public. I can't believe someone who has "enjoyed your blogs for years" would be such a troll. They clearly missed the mark on the message you share with the world. Jon(thoJ), you did such a great job responding to MB. I hope they took the message to heart.

My Dr. Who education has come mainly from you and Craig Ferguson in his LLS days ("love ALL the cakes"); I think I've only caught one episode on youtube. Even so, I can't imagine this post being any more perfect even with commentary-- it was one of the few times I felt breathless with awe while reading this site; the cakes actually deserved to just shine on their own artistry and merit. Having said that, I'm only sorry that the makers didn't get your usual adulation-- they so deserve it!

Hi! I'm Cake Diane, creator of the 8th cake down. Thought you might find the backstory of interest.

The clients designed their own wedding cake, but when they presented it to their baker, just 3 weeks before the wedding, they were informed it was outside her skill set. Desperate to find someone locally who could create their dream cake, they turned to a known reliable source - The Cake Wrecks Sunday Sweets Directory! Yep! That's how it came to be that I was chosen to make this cake! The circle of life, and all that, eh? :)

Congrats, Cake Wrecks. You saved the day! And thank you for choosing my cakes for your Sunday Sweets feature. It's an honor.

The Vincent Van Gogh Cake was my wedding cake. I did it because my Husband got me into Doctor who and we quickly became a whovian couple.

That is my favorite episode, Makes me cry every time. I am an artist also so it also touched on my favorite influence. I told the baker a basic jist of what I wanted and she made it exactly how I imagined. I have never seen this site before, sure is entertaining.

Sunday Sweets is amazing as usual. (should make that AMAZING!!! because AWESOME!)

However, I can't fathom the cranky ranting that ensued. It must be a joke!

I have yet to find another blog or website that can make me laugh until it hurts. That makes me spit various beverages all over my keyboard and screens when I erupt with laughter. That makes my office colleagues fear for my health as I choke and twitch with tears streaming down my face because I am laughing so hard (and trying not to make any noise).

I have yet to find another online community that is so positive, supportive, funny and genuinely NICE (CCCs and others not withstanding).

I LOVE this site. I appreciate so much the thought, effort and dedication that everyone who makes CW what it is.

As I have gotten older, I have stopped with the knee-jerk reaction to something negative. Where I used to say "Oh YEAH?!? Same to you $*$&(*@!", now I'm more likely to wonder (or ask) "Wow. That's pretty rude. Why would you say something like that?" That post is a reflection of MB, not of CW. I'm disappointed that MB doesn't get the same happiness and endorphins out of this site as the rest of us. How sad not to find the humour and hilarity that abounds at CW. But, that is their loss.

Love and light to all in the 'verse.
