Sunday Sweets For Paris

"Vous aurez beau faire, vous n’anéantirez pas cet éternel reste du cœur de l’homme, l’amour."
Try as you will, you cannot annihilate that eternal relic of the human heart, love.
- Victor Hugo
(By Bistra Dean)
"C'est intolérable, c'est impossible, que, de tant de mort, tant de sacrifice et de ruine, tant d'héroïsme une meilleure humanité ne puisse s'élever."
It is not tolerable, it is not possible, that from so much death, so much sacrifice and ruin, so much heroism, a greater and better humanity shall not emerge.
-Charles de Gaulle
(By Krisis' Cakes)
"L’amour est l’emblème de l’éternité, il confond toute la notion de temps, efface toute la mémoire d’un commencement, toute la crainte d’une extrémité."
Love is the emblem of eternity; it confounds all notion of time, effaces all memory of a beginning, all fear of an end.
-Madame de Staël
(By For The Love Of Cake)
"À vaillant coeur rien d'impossible."
For a valiant heart nothing is impossible.
-Jacques Coeur
(By Anna Elizabeth Cakes)
Soyons fermes, purs et fidèles; au bout de nos peines, il y a la plus grande gloire du monde, celle des hommes qui n'ont pas cédé."
Let us be firm, pure and faithful; at the end of our sorrow, there is the greatest glory of the world, that of the men who did not give in.
-Charles de Gaulle

"Impossible n'est pas français."
Impossible isn't French.
-French Proverb

Incroyable. Merci.
Everyone has expressed the sentiments that I wish to express already. But just wanted to add my voice to the chorus: thank you Jen and John! Prayers for the people of Paris!
Aujourd'hui, nous sommes tous Français. (Today, we are all French.)
God bless!
It's hard to see the pictures through all this dust in my eyes. :) <3 Thanks, this was beautiful.

Such a wonderful tribute to France and to the resilience of good in the world. We can never give up hope. May there be peace.
Beautiful.
Moi aussi. (What Jen and John thoJ said.)
Thanks, Jen. Well done and so thoughtful. I think I have just found some new favorite quotes.
Merci
Beautiful selections, appropriate quotes - I love today's post. The cakes are among the best you've ever featured on Sunday Sweets. The Eiffel Tower at the end is an artistic and engineering masterpiece. I'm particularly fond of #3 - it's not spectacular, but quiet and pretty and the sculpting is whimsical fun. Thanks for being the compassionate blogger you are.
Thank you
Best Sunday Sweets Ever. Just wish, from the bottom of my heart, that it was a happy thing that inspired it rather than a tragedy.
This was the perfect post on a weekend such as this. Thank you for the tactful way you handled a world tragedy on your website.
Beautiful post, and beautiful cakes!
My personal fave is the last one. O.M.G.

A bientot.
beautiful cakes & quotes.
what a lovely post
Thank you for these.
When I heard about the attacks I looked up your post from 9/11/11 "Be of Good Cheer" because it always makes me feel better. This another post to go back to when bad things happen.
Well done.
Brava!
What a lovely post. Thank you for that.
I lived in Paris for a few years and was back in what I consider to be my second home in July 2015 to stay in an apartment for a few days in the Latin Quarter. I would happily move back there, I love it so much. It breaks my heart to see such a vibrant city damaged like this. Illegitimi non carborundum ... or however you spell it. Supposed to be Latin for "Don't let the bastards grind you down". ;-)
