Last month the BBC reported on a new chocolate 3D printer, which is being called "a step towards manufacturing a device able to print flawless 3D objects that taste good."

Now, if you're concerned that this might adversely affect the wreckage, don't be. From the looks of their press release photos, I think we're going to be juuuuuust fine:

Not to mention there's already talk of "3D faces." Oh yeah. This is gonna be goooood.
Next, according to Tasteologie, this baking robot is "a little heavy-handed with the spatula."
According to the commenters on Youtube, we will soon all be spatula'd to death. (But 'til then, I'll keep snort-giggling at 0:37 and 1:40)

I am thinking that as soon as the camera cut, the robot backhanded the apron dude and took off with his poo cake.
A couple of days ago, CNN posted a link to a video of two artificial intelligence computers, called chatbots, they put together for a conversation - the results were hilarious.

Lol I can't stop laughing at that robot with the spatula. I am also scared of the 3D chocolate poo pile in the first pic that I think is a heart but to me doesn't look good at all. I fear the 3D monster lol.

I can definitely see soemthing like that being used in the high-end bakeries in the years to come.

I boggled at the robot's grace and style. And have no desire to taste its creation. :p
At the same time I was struck by how complex living arms and hands must really be. Most of us take them for granted and yet I'm sure it was a lot of work to get the robot to do even that much. Maybe it's the programming of the human brain I should be impressed with.
Cake Wrecks: never boring. Ever. Even the comments are awesome (the Shields and Yarnell bit is genius).

My 6 yo was watching this with me and asked what the robot was making then said "mud"! Also notice that several of the segments are speeded up 8x, that robot moves sllloooowwwww.

After watching the robot clips and reading the comments I am wiping away tears of hysterical laughter. What I would like to see the baking robot tackle next is a cake with eggs!
Psst... "Chocalate" is the British spelling, and it's being developed in the UK, so perhaps it is a little less misspelled than we think.
I can totally appreciate what the developers are trying to do with the Cookienator. Making a mechanical hand that responds to resistance is an amazing accomplishment. After all, being able to know precisely when something is whipped fluffy or blended til smooth is probably the most important part of baking.
BUT....what's up with the attachments? For pete's sake, developers, get your butts over to the KitchenAid store and buy the right flippin' attachments.
Also, if Cookienator wants a job in MY kitchen, she better have an integrated Roomba built into her base to get the flour up off the floor.

If Cookie-bot actually moves 1/8 as fast as shown, the main challenge would be to get the finished product baked before the ingredients hit their respective expiration dates. I don't think any human bakers need to be losing sleep just yet.
As for the 3-D printers, they just give wreckerators a new set of excuses to use: "You can't have your cake yet; the computer is down."
At least machines will never replace Jen, John and Number One. Right, guys? Guys?

I just now watched this and wow! Too funny. I also snort when I laugh so people at work are starting to stare! Especially when we work in "cube land"!
